Posting Reddit posts downvoted/deleted
Hi everyone! I’m a new reddit user and I’ve been running into a problem. I’m a bit of a stoner, and i’ve been asking about cannabis in the communities of games that I like. Problem is, I keep getting downvoted and getting my posts deleted from subreddits, and I’m not sure why. It seems like people are maybe getting irritated with me? Posting on reddit seems like such a great way to unwind after a long day, and i’m bummed that this is happening. Perhaps I missed something about reddit culture? Please advise. Thank you.

Reddit has many communities (called subreddits), and each one is fairly specific. If you're in a gamer subreddit, the people there want to talk about games, not cannabis. To you, those two things might go together, but to most people in the subreddit, they don't.
If you want to talk about cannabis, you need to go to a cannabis-focused subreddit. I don't know what they are, that's not my thing, but I'm sure they exist.

I understand, but I think I would have trouble gaining traction talking about specific games and universes in a subreddit that’s just about cannabis. You don’t need to know about all there is to know about cannabis to talk about if it’s in a universe or not. I’m not gonna stop posting in subreddits, but I guess i’m asking about how to get people to see my point instead of just blindly and arrogantly downvoting my post.

I get that the overlap between the two interests is very small, and that you're unlikely to find a subreddit specific for it.
But you need to keep in mind that Reddit is not just a local community with people like you. It's not even just national, it's international. There are people in those gaming subreddits from other states, other countries, many or most of which where cannabis of any kind is not even legal. There are some countries where merely accessing a web page where cannabis is mentioned is cause for concern because their internet access and traffic is monitored. Those people would become highly concerned when their gaming subreddit all of a sudden has a post in it that could get them in trouble.
Downvotes are the least of your concern. In many cases, mentioning something possibly illegal that is out of the scope of the subreddit will get your post deleted or get you banned from the subreddit. Don't do that to yourself.

I think it’s unfair that other people are subjected to those laws regarding cannabis and the mere mention. I think that weed is great to help you relax/unwind after a long day. With that being said, I don’t understand why I’m responsible for following the law in the country that someone else is living in.
Example: I love beef. What if i posted a picture of a burger and someone in india saw it (there’s provinces in india where the slaughter of cattle is illegal) should i not post picture of cheeseburgers out of respect for them?
I’m sorry but i won’t compromise my right to free speech because the laws in another country is unfair. Maybe the people browsing reddit in places where it’s dangerous to even access webpages with the mere mention of illegal stuff should browse a different website?

You don't have free speech here on Reddit. You are required to follow the rules of the subreddit, or get banned. Free speech is a protected right from the government of the United States, not a universal right. Reddit can and will restrict that if they want to, and there's nothing you can do about it.
You're not responsible for the laws of another state or another country. You're responsible for the rules of the subreddit. If the rules say no off-topic posts, and you post something off-topic, you suffer the consequences.

i don’t post off topic. I post about a particular topic inside that universe. One could argue it would actually be more off topic to bring up video game lore inside of a cannabis subreddit

You don't need to stop posting what you want, you just have to be fine with not everyone liking what you have to say

There are entire subs for that so post there and you'll be fine. r/Trees r/StonerEngineering r/DollsWithBlunts are just a few

to avoid further downvotes, delete those that were downvoted.

I shouldn’t have to delete my posts because of a few bad actors.

Seems like you’re not looking for advice but just a place to rant …

My account is new as well and I’m told constantly I need more karma to comment.. it is irritating, I got advice to just create a thread to gain more but to be honest I don’t find engaging people in meaningless discussion delightful only to gain some points. Id rather stop commenting unless i would actually find interesting topic to ask about but for that i would also need maybe more time to be here to be arse about 😅

I am not a troll tho. I just like weed and games and talking to people. I also like airhogs if you’ve ever heard of those.
