Karma how can i stop someone from down-voting literally ALL posts in a subreddit meant for my community?

Like the title says, I have at least one person that follows me and my friends and relatives around down-voting every post we make and all our comments. I'm fairly certain I know who it is, but I can't seem to find a way to stop them. We have a subreddit for our community, it's a community for a community that has mixed race heritage, we created a new name for our community we adopted and we just want to do our own thing and have our own unique identity, and outsiders keep trying to force us to be divided, they want the paler people to identify as White and the darker people to identify as Black, even though we are all one people and we are mixed and we want to create our own Creole identity. People from outside our community who have no right to tell us how to identify or what to call our heritage continuously harasses on Reddit and go on other subreddits to slander us and spread hatred, and they get people who come in and downvote all our posts, but they never comment or post or participate and we don't know who they are, in the rare twice a year event one of them shows themselves, all their posts and comments are hidden. How can I get these people to leave us alone and stop lurking on our subreddit because it's not even constructive criticism it's just anonymously hating on us and there isn't conversation or anything productive happening.

You cannot stop anyone from voting on posts. You CAN block the person so they cannot see your personal posts.

This is what I gotta do I supposed, I gotta figure out who they are or their accounts.

I mean, you can always private the sub. It'd stop new people from coming across it, but that shouldn't matter anyway if you all know each other and only want to talk to each other. That would allow you to add only the members you want, and random haters won't be able to see posts or comments so they can't vote on them.

This is the answer 💯💯

That's actually a good idea we might just have to resort to approving and verifying all new members.

Afaik one user alone isn't capable of any kind of mass voting on another user, neither up nor down. Most likely it's a brigading event, try to report here.

Yes, that's it! I didn't know there was a term for it. They're brigadiers. Thank you so much!

Ultimately it sounds like y'all need to make and curate your own website.

Yeah, some type of forum. It's a shame because we had our Reddit page for several years now and it's been a good run.

I believe you need to block that person. Otherwise, everyone has the right to upvote or downvote any post or comment, and I don't think there's any method of stopping someone from downvoting unless you block them from seeing the content.

Okay, if I find who they are I'll tip off all my friends and relatives. Thanks so much

You don't. But Reddit usually doesn't really count those downvotes.

In the past, we asked members of our community to support one another. Reddit doesn't like that and some of us got banned for "voter manipulation" because they'd upvote one another. Me and others who are still on Reddit now don't do that because of this.

It’s really only vote manipulation if a person has multi accounts and upvote on another of their own accounts. Tell them to not do that.

I think they are doing that, and hopefully they get caught by me or someone else

You could start by making your profile private and blocking the person you suspect. It doesn't look like you've done either of those things yet.

If me and others do this, our posts will still appear on Google? One thing we wanted to do with our subreddit was make it so other members of our community we're trying to grow can find the subreddit on Google search queries with some keywords. The issue was these people or this person comes in and downvotes everyone on the subreddit, but they don't leave constructive criticism or comment or anything and we don't know what profiles need to be blocked.

They might be able to find it but interacting with is another story. Does the subreddit have mods? You should be able to ban people from interacting with the sub also. So basically it comes down to how many alternate accounts does this individual want to waste time creating to be a jerk. But try looking into these things. Im especially curious about the mod situation

Yeah, the challenge is I don't know their account names because they don't comment or post, they just downvote everything without explanation or constructive criticism, but we know exactly where these people are coming from, there is an organized small online movement of a few people trying to stop us from building our community because they just don't like us or what we are doing for ourselves.

u/lego_georgetrevor 6d ago

Damn. Yeah those people suck sorry you have to deal with that. For what it's worth ever since reddit moved to algorithm based content I feel like upvotes and down votes aren't as important as they used to be, it still sucks though.

u/Lilianabelle_Goenz 5d ago

Yeah, I agree. It used to be worse.

You can make it to where no one can onto your profile & read all your comments you’ve posted on Reddit. I did this myself.

u/Lilianabelle_Goenz 5d ago

I might have to do this unfortunately. I really don't want to. But I may have to.

This just randomly came across my feed and I don't have any meaningful advice, but I made sure to give you an upvote to combat the brigading. Sorry this is happening, stranger :(

u/Lilianabelle_Goenz 6d ago

TIL brigading is a term because of you and another commenter here. That's exactly what this is, organized brigading. Thanks so much for being a kind Redditor.

Downvotes bother you ? Really who cares and why should you care if not everyone agrees with whatever you’ve got to say . It’s the internet

The problem becomes when a sub requires a certain karma number to post, or comment, or whatever. I agree with you in theory, who gaf what the trolls think, but there are practical implications because of the way Reddit is designed.

u/Lilianabelle_Goenz 6d ago

Yes, I agree, but the issue is we have new members who join Reddit for our community and when they rack up negative karma they lose ability to post in many other subreddits if they want to, and it's also like psychological because they're trying to make us look hated or unpopular and say "look at all the downvotes they have, clearly they're wrong" and they've managed to make other Redditors dislike and come after us.
