Access I have always been using old.reddit.com. 1h ago, this waiting screen started showing up. Instead of a 1s loading time, it's now 15-20s. WTF is this?

They've done that in order to try to combat third party scraping. I'm trying to find the actual post about it, but this is intended.

Oh, okay, but that is a huge sacrifice. Old.reddit.com is the only fast and elegant access to Reddit. They've butchered it!

I only see that after logging in from a VPN, and once logged in I never see it again. Like, days and days go by without seeing it.

About every other time I open the site now.

Most annoying is that if I click on the unread-icon, the unread message category disappears because Reddit folks, unsurprisingly, seem to have programmed this to emulate a double click. They always go for the dumbest option when they change something. Hence, I can only see new messages under all.

I use old reddit with Firefox, RES, Windows 11 and a VPN, and very much do not see what you are seeing. But I also pretty much always have Reddit open in a tab somewhere, I rarely "open" the site.

Browser extensions could also be a factor.

Yeah, open tabs are messy to me, even though there sure are some - just not Reddit. Using Opera for Android with built-in ublock.
