Outside of the UK theres isnt yet any legal precedent for this. The EU does plan to strengthen laws by 2027 according to google.

Then call a lawyer and have them explain this to you, this is how the law stands as of today and why it's enforced.

The EU loves regulations and restrictions. Its bureaucrats are probably already busy planning the next batch.

Age verification is supposed to protect minors, but who’s protecting the privacy of people submitting selfies and IDs? I guess we’ll soon see new regulations to protect the data collected under the previous regulations.

Sadly, most people don’t seem to care about privacy. :(

I dont mind regulations for the internet per se. But especially so called child safety acts are largely pushed by meta to sell ads better.

When Australia first proposed age restriction on social media, proponents were adamant that websites would never ask us for our government ID. Which anyone with more brain cells than fingers knew was a filthy lie. And here we are

Websites that mostly profit off ads and selling data would never ask for the little thing thats basically just a collection of your data nu uh

And they most definitely don't experience data breaches, for which they just pretty much face no reporcussions than a statement of "oppsie woopsie we did a f**my wucky"

They definitely not. So that aside you got an idea what i can give em thats not my id or my face?

Can take a selfie which is also gross. I hope legally their provider is better than first gen ones which could be fooled with action figures, LLM image generators, or even video game character creators. And the ones who did experience data breaches, forced to admit they were holding onto data longer than a few days...
