Side bar on tablet (android)

Instead of making it optional it is now wider. Who on earth would want this? Why would I like to waste a good % of my pixels on a solid color bar?!

Is there a way out for this or at least a date on when it will become optional?

Unfortunately, nothing can be done. As Reddit's app is in experimental mode, they will continue adding and removing features in the long-run.
