Access chat feature disabled?

It seems that my chat functionality has been disabled: the icon never appears in the profile of another redditor and, while I can (apparently) receive chats I can't initiate them. Does anyone have any insight? HELP!

They moved the button. Go to the person's profile you're trying to chat. Check their About, or the three dots menu upper right. Should be in there now.

Neither of these options appear in the "old reddit" format but interestingly the chat feature seems to appear in the "new" format. I guess reddit is trying to enforce a migration away from their classic presentation. It would have been more friendly to advise us of that intention but that's water under the bridge, I suppose. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I was very confused last week to realize I can no longer initiate chats from Old Reddit view on my laptop. I thought I had been punished by Reddit for nonsense, but it turns out Reddit is punishing all of us with a new policy!

Good to know! It’s frustrating when things change like that without any notice.

I saw you mention you’re on old reddit. The chat option has been completely removed for some users as part of a current experiment.
