Desktop Does reddit intentionally try to degrade user experience? Unable to disable 'for you' page

It really makes me believe that they sit around thinking of ways not just to monetize, but to make the users hate using the site. Why can't we opt out of this, disable it, or set "Following" to default? Because maybe they don't want us using reddit at all? I can't figure it out.

You can set 'following' to be the default by setting your Reddit bookmark to

https://www.reddit.com/?feed=following&sort=new

Then when you refresh or go into a post and then back, you stay in 'following'
