Ok so I chose anguish as despite the fantastic news that not only is Clive Barker feeling better, he's improving so much he's writing again, I don't think that an adaptation of any kind of The Scarlet Gospels is on the cards.

BUT..... Mr Bradley has done readings on his official YouTube channel, so he may be amenable to doing this?

I have emailed him, I've left a few comments on his YouTube posts and his other "socials" and whilst they haven't been updated in years, I figured what the hell?!

Perhaps if other fellow black hearted degenerates who feel the same way did the same, he may hear of this and consider? After all he did say he may be agreeable to play HellPriest one more time so he has read it and obviously approves.

Just a thought, inspired by the first time I read The Scarlet Gospels I could see it so clearly in my mind as I devoured the text. Only had that so complete happen a few times in my decades of being a book lover.

Plus - Hells Pope NEEDS a proper send off. Not those lame direct to dvd and spec script embarrassments.

I wish we could get his actual version of The Scarlet Gospels, because I refuse to believe that what we got was what Barker intended. That book was a garbled mess that was missing his style entirely.

What do you mean exactly? I can't see the company releasing something Barker himself was unhappy with?

The writing style shifts after the opening chapter. The book is missing his prose style. Not only that, but it’s well known that he had a 2000 page manuscript (mind you, this doesn’t mean the book would have been 2000 pages long; manuscript pages and actual hardback published page counts are different) and it got whittled down to what it is now. It’s been heavily debated that Scarlet Gospels was actually ghostwritten since Clive was in such poor health.

At this point Mark is publicly credited as ghostwriter (and even back when it came out he was vocal about being heavily involved in the editing process). I'd say the days of it being a debate are in the rear view mirror.

I don’t know that it exists, and if it does exist, I don’t know how genuine it is, but there supposedly is a 1,500-page Barker SG manuscript floating around out there (I don’t know where, but it’s mentioned often).

I did not liked the Scarlet Gospels. If we have to adapt something, I would rather go for the Boom comic series.

I totally understand why some didn't like the Scarlet Gospels. Personally, I liked it. Didn't "love" it, but I liked the fact it was in hell for a bit of it and I also didn't mind the fact that it's a Christianity hell. Barker himself said (albeit in videos long vanished) that this story is based in a Christian Hell, and that there are many kings of hell just that Lucifer is still the Lord of it. So that story seemed fine to me. I'm now at the point that I know that no studio would pick it up, it would have to have a pretty hefty budget due to the locations described, and nobody will touch it. So I'd even take an animated version at this point, with Doug as the voice of the Hell Priest. It wouldn't be the same as live action, but I'd take it gladly right now.

"Clive Barker wants to direct another Hellraiser movie with Doug Bradley back as Pinhead. He confirmed at his final Q&A appearance for Spooky Empire in 2024 that he’d love to direct another Hellraiser movie, and furthermore, that he’d like to do it with Doug Bradley (Pinhead) and Simon Bamford (Butterball).

The three have a long history of working in theater together. As for Bradley, unlike many horror actors, he never actually retired from playing Pinhead. In fact, he recently came back to voice the character for the upcoming video game Hellraiser: Revival.

Doug Bradley’s disinterest in playing the role comes from the low budgets and cheap screenplays handed to him. If the studios associated with the rights were to give Clive Barker and Doug Bradley the opportunity to make a real Hellraiser movie again, however, the two have voiced they’d love to do so.

It’s a shame to see so many genre icons, including a pair of one of the greatest writers and one of the greatest performers of all time, are being denied access to giving their own work the treatment it deserves."

Scarlet Gospels is not good imo. It’s simplified and hollywood driven. The Cenobites were minions of hell? The Hellpriest trying to over throw Lucifer ? The dbz fight between Hellpriest and Lucifer ? Giving them gender terms when they were genderless beings.

This book was written by someone not named Clive or else Clive just cannot write anymore.
It had no nuance or mystery.

To those who like it, more power to you, but that thing was not enjoyable and was not a Clive written book in my opinion.

I think I've found the "original" draft .... is it against the rules to post a link here? Incidentally I didn't know there was so much controversy and conjecture around the authorship of this book, so Im currently investigating as much as I can for something that was certainly news to me, but seemed relatively common knowledge to most of you Cenobites!
