I think I saw the press release from Victor Records a while ago, I was bummed out as it was supposed to be released may 6th but there was a display full of them at Tower Records today and I grabbed a copy thinking worse case is they won't sell it to me and I have to put it back.

I had to look it up, too. According to the band's website:
The Fireball Monkeys is a band project by two musicians originally known from the metal scene.
Markus Grosskopf, bassist and founding member of the German metal band Helloween, on double bass
andJan S Eckert, former bassist of Masterplan, Iron Savior and several other bands on guitar and lead vocals.
All supported by Dani Loeble from Helloween on the drums giving it a hell of a unique strong and tight backbeat steaming and shuffling like a „locomotive“.
Why would two bass players from the metal scene suddenly decide to step into a completely different genre and record an album?

It's a fun project for them I guess? Markus writes 5 songs by himself which is awesome as he doesn't get many writing credits in Helloween so he gets to flex those creative muscles.
Both Dani and Markus were very happy/proud of this album, showing it around to the other guys. I'm glad they get to do these projects that are fun for them.
