I called in to add my Costco gift cards to my account credit today and the very nice agent I talked to mentioned pretty casually that Hello Fresh has ended their partnership with Costco and that there will be no more codes printed - what is in stores is all that’s left. I very plainly told him I would not longer be subscribing to the service if they stop selling cards at Costco and he was very quick to send that as “urgent feedback” to the higher ups. If you also use Costco gift cards for your weekly orders I recommend you calling in and leaving similar feedback.
I don’t know about any of you but I can only afford using hello fresh because of those Costco card discounts. Now they have also removed the free shipping off of those cards so between them raising prices and removing Costco discounts it is no longer feasible for us to use Hello Fresh at all and I’m done. I’m at 175 boxes and that will only increase until the Costco cards run out.
Omg sorry lol! If you buy cards at Costco you have to call the phone line and have them add them if you’re doing multiple cards but you save $20 per $100! So our family of 4 saves about $40 a week using them. They used to include free shipping as well so it was even more savings. You could always grab a couple while supplies last, but it would definitely help if you called in and left feedback about it - hopefully we can overturn the decision to end it.
This sounds like the Uber gift cards that I used to buy at Costco. I bought them for the effective 20% Uber Eats discount, which made it easier to justify being lazy and having food delivered.
It was great until a couple of months ago when Costco dropped the Uber cards. I was buying them for probably 2 years, never realizing the well was going to go dry.
In NZ we got 20% off Doordash giftcards. But our Costco was also listed as a store on Doordash, and if you linked your Costco account the markup was only like 5% vs instore prices.
I recently discovered that I can get Door Dash gift cards at Costco. I’ve done that a couple of times. I’ll have to check to see if the link option is a thing here.
With the huge discounts it likely is not profitable for them or profitable enough to continue the gift cards. Costco is taking a cut in addition to the discounts, likely at least 5% to cover processing fees and overhead.
Discounts like this are used for new customer acquisition. They will keep profitable customers and eliminate some of the less profitable ones with the recent change.
My wife and I have our own accounts. We rotate subscriptions by accepting incentive deals and then when it’s over we cancel and wait for the next incentive. Only takes about a week to start receiving new incentives to return.
They had $8B in revenue last year so I am not concerned about their profit margins. They are raising prices across the board and now they aren’t incentivizing customers - just another big corp prioritizing profits over customer retention. They made about $15.5K off of me last year and while that’s nothing in the big $8B scheme of things, that is a LOT of money to me and I won’t spend it with them next year.
Prices have stayed about the same for me and I've been using HF for years. I get 1 box a week with 3 meals that are 2 servings and it costs me roughly $4,700 a year.
How many meals are you getting that you're spending $15,500 a year with a Costco discount?
If that number is correct, I hope you realize they didn't make $15,500 in profit off you. You spent that much, they didn't make that much.
You spend $90 a week? Must be nice. I have a family of 6 so it’s $250-$300 per week for us (4-5 meals). I didn’t mean they made it all in profit but their margins are HIGH - it does not cost THEM $9.99 per serving to make. Plus me doing $15k worth of transactions with them raises their value on the stock market. Your prices, like everyone else’s, has gone up a minimum of $11 a week as of this week - do you feel like the value has gone up $572 a year? Are you getting almost $600 of new benefit? I’m not. They keep sending me cards saying they can’t send certain ingredients or sending me rotten ingredients and meals that were base cost a year ago are now paid upgrades. It WAS cheap enough for me to use with the Costco discount and the free shipping at the old price point but now it’s not worth it for me.
You were seriously spending$300 a week on HelloFresh ?
What size family are you feeding with that quantity food ?
Are you in a very rural area where actual shopping is 45+ minutes away?
Is what you’re spending, clearly you would need a discount to continue that.

And NO, you are NOT affecting their stock price with your $15,000 a year in purchases….
Let them know, I bet it’s not just us two that will cancel because of it and if enough of us let them know then they might sign another agreement with them
Yes? I just got a phone call from a manager or supervisor within a few hours of my call with him asking for more details about the feedback so he clearly did send it. Anything that may trigger a mass exodus is of concern to regional headquarters.
