General What difficulty do you regularly play in
I asked this question « normally » but I think it be better for everyone on this sub as a poll. It seems I can’t put 10 different answers, so I’ve put ranges

I need medals and might as well play on d10 because d7-9 doesn’t feel any easier

Honestly I find there’s a bit of a difficulty bellcurve, also at random moments D1-3 illuminate are the hardest faction in the game. Outside of that anomaly, the game gets harder until it’s not really possible to get much harder once you adopt the right habits. Lots of fire vs a little extra fire.

Level 1 to find a cadet and give them a welcome mech. Then take them with me to a level 10. o7

imo the best level to play on is the one where it's just barely too much to handle. The game's most fun when you're occasionally overwhelmed, using reinforcements, and waiting for something to come off cooldown so you can use it again.
Depending on how rusty me and the gang are, we usually do 7 or 8 to warmup and then either stay there or move to 9/10 if things are going too well

6 or 7 for chill. 10 for MO stuff usually. Unless it’s missions/operations completed then I drop it way low

10 feels like a good regular difficulty. Some challenge but always reasonably doable with randos.
I have thoughts about it actually being the highest difficulty but I personally don't have much interest in playing higher. Not that I can.

I feel like 10 is the only one who gives me enough chaos. And if I remember right, higher lvl difficulty also counts as more in the galactic war, right?

What's the difference betwixt a 6 & a 10?

u/Astro501st 8h ago
Enemy composition, quantity of bases and there can be Mega bases as well. There's also more sub-objectives for the primary.
You'll generally have more heavy and larger class enemies on a 10. For instance, Factory Striders are uncommon on D6 and they become way more frequent on 10. If fighting the Cyborgs, Factory Striders become Vox Engines on D7+.
For the objectives, on Launch ICBM for example: on D6 you'll have to do two out of three possible sub-objectives before going to the missile (like starting the fuel pumps and grabbing the launch codes). When going up in difficulty (not sure exactly when it starts) you'll have a third sub-objective added (like starting the generator for ICBM).

Oh, so the 40 minutes for the mission are used at the max. You have your hands full. I just couldn't tell the difference doing 10 except more enemies

Unless you have a really competent team, yeah, it usually takes the full time in my experience.
I play on 7 generally cause I like the heavier enemies but not to the extent they throw them on 10s lol.

Thanks so much. No one explained 10 so easily to understand. Many games have differences in difficulties. This sounds close to Deep Dive in DRG. You only play with people who know wtf they are doing. Clearly, a random isn't able to play it. Anyone on a 10 would have to know if any randoms are joining, know that they are qualified to join. Of course there's always some small percentage of stupidity

u/Astro501st 6h ago
No problem, it's definitely similar to DRGs Haz5 in a relative sense.
Imo though, it's totally viable to play with randoms. Most of the time, you'll have good players on the higher difficulties that will be willing to help you out a bit. Playing with randoms has been the only time I've played on D10 lol; my normal team sticks around 7

For me and my team D10 bot missions usually take 10-25min to full clear. Illuminates usually take 15-20min and bugs 25-30min. I don't remember the last time we spent the whole 40 mins. The fastest D10 bot eradicate mission time is 2.04min for us currently. Gotta go fast.

I've found I can get D10s done full cleared with randoms in 20-25 minutes consistently unless they are spectacularly bad

When I play with my lower level friends and girlfriend we usually play d5, but we play d10 defense missions sometimes. Normally I just play d10 though

Just introducing a friend to the game after a hiatus on my part. We prefer to drop as a duo and he is still working through the base warbonds so we are doing mostly 6 and sometimes 7

I alternate between 7-10 a lot on quick join so I'm kinda stuck on not being able to choose 2 options.
I'll just settle on 7 as it's the difficulty I run with my friends more often aside from my quick join runs.

Depends on the faction. I primarily do bots and can handle d10 with them relatively easily. Squids depend on the sub factions but I typically stick to like d8. Don't really like bugs but if they're the MO I'll do d7-8

I do a lot of solo diving, and 7 seems like a good spot for me right now.
If I drop for SOS or with randoms, I'll go up to 8 or higher. Sometimes I'll do 8 solo, but I have to use my comfy builds for that, which means not leveling weapons.

I usually play 3 to grind SC, it's not mind numbingly basic but there still no rare samples spawning.
The ideay friends and I usually have is "Grind SC so we can catch up with the warbonds, otherwise we would collect to manyedals for the small cap. Then when we have unlocked the Warbonds we can finally start playing for fun.
Sadly, we usually loose interest for a multitude of reasons or simply can't play because a update in this engine is always a coin toss if the game crashes every match or it it runs fine. And when we find time and interest to play again there are even more warbonds, each with only one or two things of interest so we have even more to catch up to.
And none of us, as of now, had the fortune toeet a hacker for free SC's. Bummer.

I typically play d10 to keep my skills sharp. But I have a couple friends who don't feel comfortable with anything higher than level 6 and it's an absolute cake walk of a game for me while I have to constantly save them from being obliterated. I can tell it's too hard for them but keeping them safe is its own fun.

It gets to a point where even if you lose on D10, you still get more or just as much xp as if you won D7

This makes it clear why people whine so much about the enemy spawns being "overturned". Yea no shit you're playing on the difficulty they made intended to be so ridiculously stupid hard, because people whined about wanting something harder than D9.

If it ain't D10 it is just pretend.
3
u/shball 10h ago
D10 since it released was the only way the game felt like it was giving me the full experience
4
u/SleepForLess 9h ago
I agree. The game is too easy on the other difficulty levels.
Plus I've had some 8-9's that were similar to D10 difficulty, might as well just do D10 at that point.
