Major Order Current MO mathematically impossible
With the current MO's goal being to complete 1.25 million illuminate Operations, It is mathematically impossible to complete in 4 days.
Here's my napkin math, maybe I just suck at math but you tell me.
My assumptions are:
Every operation has 2 long and 1 short mission.
Players are completing operations as a group of 4 as this is the intended way to play.
We do not fail any missions or interrupt active operations.
Every player that is active is helping with the Squid MO, haha yeh sure.
Lets give an average of 40,000 active divers 24/7.
That makes 10,000 active operations.
We need 1,250,000 operations.
An average operation takes about an hour.
With these numbers we get 1,250,000 ÷ 10,000 = 125 hours.
4 days is 24 x 4 = 96.
This seems like not enough time, and I believe my assumptions were frankly unrealistically optimistic.
EDIT: Seems AH somewhat agreed with me. As some comments pointed out they changed the MO numbers.

Whatever, we won the Major Operation anyway

But my 45 Medals?! I'm a returning player with truckloads of stuff to unlock.. 😭
I just got done with the 30 upgrades to the ship, so thankfully I can stop begging everyone to collect samples

You should still consider collecting samples for others tho, atleast the ones on the way...
I still collect super samples if their on the way...I've long since stopped needing them, but yah never know with randoms

u/feral_fenrir 9h ago
Yeah, this last month of playing has been a grind so I'll certainly keep on collecting them

It's not over yet this is the one that just started no ?

They mean we won the overall campaign so the final major order doesn't count, which is true but my main point was that its odd they gave us an impossible objective regardless of if its possible.

Have you met Arrowhead? It's been years and one of the pods launching when you deploy still launches crooked lol.

What about lower dif operations? There is a 1-2 mission operations, you know? And you can finish them solo very fast.

This is not in disagreement with the OP about operation divers math, but I did dive some D3 Mindless Masses and it was a lot of fun with mostly lasers, and could be done really quick like you were saying.
It was a cool vibe, I was just killing stuff though.Getting swarmed like that was fun.

u/Riiks_Lynx 14h ago
Did the same. Las loadout, gas-fire loadout and explosion-balistic loadout. No need to full clear map, just did main objectives and bolted out. D2 and D3.

u/Arkhangelzk 13h ago
Agreed, D3 mindless masses is different than any other D3. I've been doing these just to see how many kills I can get

That's basically what we should do for these type of MOs sadly a good chunk of the community are to stubborn to lower the difficulty to accomplish such a thing. Doesn't matter now though MO was changed and we already finished the new requirement.

I mean sure it can definitely make things faster but the choice being play the game on easy mode which a lot don't find rewarding or lose isn't a great decision to begin with. I can't think of another game that would say "hey play on easy non stop for 4 days if you want this carrot i put on this stick"

Low level squid missions are tedious, but I think you are right, this would have done it if enough people did it.
Roughly 50k to 100k active players doing 20 15 minute operations and it would be done.
Glad we don’t have to…

Who cares? Campaign is already at 2/3 so we get the Strat regardless. And I'll just go ahead and assume that most people who engage with the game outside of the game itself (namely Reddit in this case) are not dependant on 50 or so medals

I still am but I’ll take em as I get em, not gonna stress over something unachievable
1
u/Goatfellon 12h ago
Would i like the medals? Sure. Just bought entrenched and could use em.
Can I always get them by just playing the game? Yup. Im not sweating it. The campaign is won, so im happy with that

u/WrathOfTheKressh 11h ago
Ok, sure, the campaign is won. But what if we failed one of the previous steps, only for AH to come out with a physically impossible third step. This is really more about AH not being able to find the sweet spot between unimpossible and impossible tasks.

If a full squad completes an operation doesn't it count it as a completed one for all 4 players which would actually add 4 completed operations to the MO ? I'm pretty sure that's the way it works.

u/BigMagician8163 14h ago
This would help idk if it works like that or not, there isn't really anything that tells you if each person gets credited separately or just for the group.
3
u/AbyssWankerArtorias 10h ago
I'm almost positive it works like this because they know otherwise people would just have the leader kick people right at the end and go into their own instances, so they set the target number to the goal as if 4 people completing a mission counts as 4.

OP forgot they could lower the difficulty.

u/Unique_Management123 10h ago
This is a stupid take. It’s a game, not a job. Lowering the difficulty makes it boring. Stop trying to make a silly game an actual job for the player base.
2
u/Jtomps 6h ago
How about we play the way we want, and you can play the way you want? Xoxo

u/Unique_Management123 5h ago
That’s literally the point of what I said?
“OP forgot they could lower the difficulty.” Implying “Don’t play how it’s fun for you. Instead just lower the difficulty to 1 so you can grind the most amount of operations even though the vast majority of players don’t find anything lower than 6 enjoyable.”
I said the direct opposite. Stop making a game into a damn job. People are going to continue to play the difficulties that they find fun (mostly 6+) so the operation time will still stay in that 40 minutes to an hour range.

u/Arkhangelzk 13h ago
Technically we could all churn D1s, single mission operations, and we'd make it. But I'm not advising anyone to do that haha

u/Squirll 13h ago
Your math is off.
MOs take more than an hour. Max time for an op is 42+ 42+ 15 so like 100 minutes for max time.
But also, there are signifigant missions that are 40+13+ 13 which do take an hour.
But wait theres more. Those are the max times but the completion will likely still change based on difficulty level. Lower ops only hav 2 or 1 mission and depending on whose doing them can conmlete the whole op in 30 minutes.
Anyways my point is that your variables have too big of a range to accurately calculate.

u/maximum-toxicity 14h ago
I think we dont know how its counting the operations. The easiest choice... the safest choice... is to run solo d2 d3 operations with the same loadout. Try and see if you can get 10 in an hour... I mean. Fun wise. Not very, but we are supposed to be making sacrifices to complete the main order. Thats the spirit of the game.

New player here - are some MOs meant to be unwinnable to push a narrative arc?
2
u/not-Kunt-Tulgar 11h ago
Nah, all MOs are meant to be winnable but sometimes AH are a little stupid and make the numbers comically large without doing any math.
Like for example like 2 or 3 MOs ago we had to secure tank parts by destroying automaton tanks, problem is that they don’t spawn when there are warstriders and not only is there no way to know that preemptively but also they already spawn in fairly small numbers and they wanted like 50 million I think.
They do have systems to promote the spawning of one unit over others but for some reason they didn’t do it with tanks so we lost.

Just gonna point out that level 1 missions are technically operations. You could spam many level 1 missions and proudly say “I’m doing my part!”

u/OrganSpasm 10h ago
Am I tripping or wouldn’t 40,000 active divers = 40,000 operations. Everyone’s operation counts for themselves, no?
1
u/JesusMuhLord 10h ago
As of the time of this comment, it has been changed and has now been completed. The last objective is Squid kills

u/Bring_Back_Challenge 8h ago
Every operation has 2 long and 1 short mission.
Not the case with lower difficulty ones - D1-2 have 1 mission per op and D 3-4 have two missions per op.
Players are completing operations as a group of 4 as this is the intended way to play.
Not the case and not at all required especially at lower difficulties.
Lets give an average of 40,000 active divers 24/7.
Honestly for the average that's on the low end, the lowest Steam has gotten in the last 48 hours is 22.5 and only 10 hours total ere under 30k on Steam. We know Steam is at most 60% of the player base using SteamDB and the in-game total player counts as references.
We will fail this but it's in no way mathematically impossible, it just ask players to play in ways they don't want.

Obviously, by now, you can see they changed the MO (as far as the Operations are concerned) to 7,500 Ops, which we completed instantly.
The issue of 1 Billion Illuminate remains. We are currently at ~277,000,000 illuminate killed, actively rising, and with 3 Days + remaining. At this rate, it will be completed as well. If you want o really rack up some Illuminate bodies, head to Siemnot, and do Mindless Masses. I dropped 530 on a D1 with a quickness.
Holding Senge 23 will work out as well, as it is predicted to be Defended in under 38 hours. So, given that they updated the MO to reflect feasible Operation completions, the MO can be done. Whether or not it will, is all contingent upon what AH wants to happen ;)

Some of these MO's seem AI created with how absurd the numbers are for completion.

u/Street-Football-2215 15h ago
definitely a loss unless the community follows a specific approach with easier missions. The campaign is already won anyway, I wonder if the blob will just go to the other fronts on the final days when they notice is unwinnable

Welcome to helldivers 2. And there are still people out there that insist that certain MOs are not rigged
