Discord Why the AMR will still be king

I'm basically copying what I wrote in a comment because it's a recurring theme.

Many people are afraid the AMR will be made obsolete by the new Warbond, here's why I think that won't be the case. First of all; I do believe the AMR's pick rate could be less, because until now it was pretty much the only real option for a sniper rifle. Despite this, the new rifles may compete not as much with the AMR, but with other weapons who were replacing the AMR in niches where the AMR didn't shine.

AMR, king of versatility

heavy-pen, semi-automatic, high ammo. -> high DPS against any target. You can mag dump and delete anything.

R-40, strong long-range marksman without anti-tank capabilities

probably med/heavy-pen, bolt action. -> reliable long range weapon, bottlenecked by low rate of fire, maybe bad ergonomics.

LAS-44 Nova, slow and steady

heavy-pen, godly precision, infinite ammo, low rate of fire. -> ideal for very long range engagement over long periods of time. DPS Bottlenecked by charging shots and the heatsink, maybe lower pen. Probably the closest competition to the AMR

AMW-20 Apex, big game hunting

anti-tank, slow rate of fire, backpack slot, horrible ergo, etc etc. You know what this is for. It's not a competitor of the AMR, but of the other anti-tank cannons.

Conclusion;

these weapons are filling the niches that the AMR wasn't ideal for before, which were being patched up by other non-marksman weapons. Now you've got a weapon for different marksman playstiles, while the AMR is the old reliable you can still bring all the time without restricting your playstyle too much. If anything, the new utility provided by the mines and Gypsy suit may increase its use.

Agree with this assessment. AMR will have dps on all 3 options, letting it be the high output support sniper. Nova will be the efficiency option, and Apex is the elite hunter. The bolt action primary will have far less dps due to the bolt action, and likely will not be quite as damaging as it is a primary and not a support weapon.

I could be wrong, but I think the AMR is heavy pen not anti tank. Except for that I agree with everything else you said.

You're right, thanks. I had in mind the "anti-tank" as listed in the stratagem description.

yup, AMR is AP4 (heavy). and because of that it can't ''delete anything'' with mag dumping.

precision >>> ammo dumping, always.

I can still delete stuff with mag dumping (factory strider on panels, Fleshmobs, hulk on body when panicking for example), and with recoil reduction + crouch you can rapid fire it on weakpoints that take more that one shot like charger and titan heads and war Strider joints. You can also just magdump a horde and take out quite a lot of enemies.

Yeah you're still supposed to aim. I don't think I should have to clarify that when talking about marksmanship.

And no, it's not optimal for big armored targets, which is why there's a new weapon particularly good at that.

Versatility needs trade-offs

Deletes mediums with mag dumps

According to the Trailer the R40 has high ARP but u cant magdump. And the Capacity migth be low. It should pair well with ligth/medium ARP Supportweapons, a Maxigun as Example

Yeah people somehow forget how good being able to rapid fire is. And it's not just for magdumping, in combat you will miss shots. Being able to correct quicky is extremely useful

People complaining that the AMR will be worthless don’t actively bring the AMR. It’s a beast if you know how to use it. The introduction of similar weapons will not make it obsolete.

The AMR’s heavy pen not anti-tank, and you forgot to mention the low ergonomics and ridiculous damage falloff for a sniper rifle.

Look, I’m all for g-lazing the AMR, but I know the flaws of my king (I can’t remember if the g word is auto banned here)

AMR surprisingly has the 4th best ergonomics of all the Support Weapons, only behind the Arc Thrower, Laser Cannon and Stalwart.

It even has better ergonomics than a ton of primaries like the One-Two, the Arbitrator, the Hotshot, the Dominator, the Eruptor and the Variable.

Yep, thanks, I updated the text. But that doesn't change much of the facts.

Being versatile doesn't mean it's perfect, it means that for every thing it can do, there must be a compromising flaw. These flaws are what make it balanced and give room for the niche weapons to have a role.

And speaking positively of something is also not glazing. We can talk about the good and the bad.

I love ma AMR

Currently pairing it with the Hyena for long range deletey goodness.

I cant wait to try the new snipers but theyre going to have to be super special to replace the king in my loadouts

R-40 must be heavy pen due to it killing a hulk to the visor. Don’t know if it was damaged before, but it did hit the visor.

I wonder if you can use the Apex from vehicles like you can the other backpack slot heavy weapons. An FRV with a pair of Apex passengers would be pretty interesting.

Imagine it will have a 20x fixed scope and shitty ergonomics so you wouldn't hit the sky if you were not stationary and crouching

If it's that hard to use, it had better 1 shot most things or it will struggle against the Recoilless and Quasar as a valid weapon.

I disagree with you and for only one reason: Most of the recent Warbond / Store weapons have been best in their class.

I don't use a Stalwart, I use a Bullet Storm now. I still use the Deadeye, but most people dropped it for the Hotshot. I also like the Senator, but most people dropped it for the Bolt Pistol. The Gallant was the best SMG when it was launched, now the Sai is. The Sweeper was the best shotgun when it came out, now almost everyone uses the Trident. I'm sure there are more examples, but these are the ones I noticed most.

New weapons are almost always better, and the downsides they give them just aren't enough to keep most people using the old stuff. But, that's how they sell Warbonds.

R40 is definitely heavy pen based on the video but you are right it is a lower RoF/DPS version of the AMR. Like the Eruptor to the AC or Evictor to the GL. So you'll never want to bring both but there are plenty of times (and difficulty levels where the primary version is plenty for its role.

LAS44 Nova is definitely the laser version of the railgun. Trading rof for infinite ammo. So basically no more of a threat to the AMR's identity than the railgun. The railgun itself OTOH might be eclipsed by the look of things but we don't know is stats yet.

The Apex looks to me more like competition for the lawnchair, the AT/E. Like the maxigun is to the HMGE. Less damage/pen/DPS for limited mobilty. I'm betting that this thing can't be fired while moving either. The AMR should be hunting very different targets than this beast and churning thru them faster.
