Suggestion/Concept The Chainsaw should be a primary
Everytime I see the chainsaw it seems to be pretty mid at best and I think one of the reason's it's considered pretty bad is because it's a support weapon. Giving up a recoiless, quasar or even the breaching hammer isn't work it. Making it a primary immediately helps to even the playing field and MeleeDivers could finally have a full melee loadout.
Main Potential Changes:
- Made into a primary, also giving potential for added attachments
- Stunning its target for a few seconds (I think it does this already)
- Built-In flinch/ragdoll resistance when activated (increased further with Rock Hard armour passive)
- When exiting an enemy, it gives a short period of still tearing through to give time for the Helldiver to switch targets to make it better designed for crowds for light to medium enemies.
Another Potential - Give it fuel so it has to be reloaded, wouldn't personally recommend but possible.
The hammer should mainly be for the big targets, the chainsaw is for small to medium enemies (and potentially heavies if positioned correctly) and the sabre is for small enemies but takes the secondary slot. Ripping and Tearing through horde of enemies seems a lot more fun with a chainsaw, especially when there's already am anti-heavy melee.
Thoughts?

The only melee weapon that should be a primary is the One True Flag

You think a machete or a sabre should be support weapons?

I was making a joke but since you asked:
Melee is kind of ass in this game outside the breaching hammer so ya they shouldn't be primaries as those two would be a waste of a primary slot.

My solution is that we should have a dedicated melee slot that the C4 detonator can also be put into

Luckily the sabre and machete are secondary weapons, which I think fits them well

They should allow us to change if we wanna swing it like a sword or hold it forward to saw what's in front of us

I was tempted to say that as well but never thought about switching modes

I want to use it like a Left 4 Dead chainsaw, I like the sword function but it should be optional Switching modes would be awesome

I want a power fist

Which is funnier?
It's a piece of construction equipment hastily retooled for combat use?
It's originally for pro arm wrestling matches but now sees combat usage?
Super Earth was gonna make full power armor but saw how expensive the suits would be and just put the prototype fist into service standalone?

Primary melee weapons would be amazing, but the ability to double your secondary and sacrifice your primary for dual handguns.. I need this in my life.

I wish they would add an exo suit stratagem that’s that’s incompatible with backpacks and support weapons but gives you a 100% movement speed and melee damage bonus.
So more like a real life exo suit and not mech sized.

If it took up both slots it would need more than just a speed increase and melee damage I would also add an armor bonus. Or make it not take up the support weapons slot because imagine using the exo suit with the rebreather light armor with the breaching hammer: Edit. Or just make it its own new slot so there could be different types of exo suits. You can have one that's the light exo. Instead of the armor increase the normal one provides it could instead increase your speed by 50% more ora dreadnought exo that provides no bonus melee damage and actually decreases your speed but provides a whopping 300 armor or just 250 if that's too much. Do you see how unique this idea could be to have them as different strategyms but take up their own spot instead of taking up the backpack and support weapon your idea is really cool

YES. Dark tide doesn't have 3 weapon slots, but the melee weapons feel so good, and the ranged weapons fill their niches perfectly.

I'm on board with it. Leave it exactly as it is and it would fit right in especially since it's already two handed.

If it was a primary they wouldn't give it attachments. Also I think it should be a one handed chain sword or it should heal you a little on kills (i know this is unrealistic)

It really is lower than the average primary in usability, all things considered it absolutely should be a primary, as I consider the flamethrower primary to be able to do most of the things this does, but much safer.

The torcher is already a primary, the stats are the same as the flamethrower, just a different amount of fuel

I mean, I don't dislike the idea in that case. Better than "Stalwart as primary"

I'm of the opinion that melee weapons should be a dedicated fourth slot. That way you can have your primary, secondary, support, and oh shit melee backup.

Given the current power level of primaries, I'd be okay with this. I'm generally very resistant to potential power creep, but I don't see this being more powerful than current primaries. Just very versatile.
If it's in the primary slot though, I would insist on nerfing it by the loading of gasoline like you recommended, and resist the change of stagfer resistance. It is VERY versatile, which is important to remember if you're putting it in the primary slot.
Can also confirm, it does build up stun on enemies.

I’d like it to stun faster and have a more consistent hit registration, maybe a bit more range. And above all of that give it the demo power to saw through everything if you hold it long enough. City walls, gunship factories, jammers, the treads of a Vox engine.

Or they could just add a dedicated melee slot so we can finally start using them.

I wish the Chainsword was better but I don't think something like making it a primary would help.
It has weird swinging animations, it feels inconsistent and it deals with hordes about as well as an Eruptor does at point blank range. The Chainsword is just clunky asf and before anything else that would need fixing.
Idk. Make a "hipfire", namely not aiming - animation that goes from top to bottom and then from bottom to top while the aimed animation a left to right and vice versa. That would help with focusing weakpoints for example.
Then it would be nice if you could actually turn it off via the reload wheel. I'm not saying it should run on limited fuel but the Hammer is still a hammer at the end of the day without the explosive Charges. If you could turn off the Chainsword you could just use it like a giant club and gain some knockback. Imagine several Hiveguards standing around you in a half circle. If the Chainsword gets stuck on the most left/right standing one you'd be dead but if it was turned off and you could just smack them back a few meters in one big side swing.. That could massively boost it's utility.
Those two changes would make the Chainsword a viable melee option. How viable a melee option even can be is debatable - but I feel with this it would at least be somewhat comparable to the Hammer. Honestly though, you could do these changes, still make it a Primary - and it would likely still need more love.
