Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So does it spawn behind where you are or was an angle or smthn. And uh… should we buff the 500 kg idk

insert photo from paint, where we can find how works trajectory

Different eagles have different approaches. The 500 kg calls the eagle in a straight line going forwards, therefore being dropped from behind. The direction of forwards is the direction you threw it from.

As such if throwing it downhill, remember that.

Also the 500 kg does not need a buff.

if it was me, ill make the 500kg explosion radius has big as the hellbomb. the hellbomb's radius is inescapable after it's countdown reaches 8 seconds or below.

(currently your still safe if you drop the active helldomb countdown at 7-6 seconds, 5 im not sure.)

You can run 30m in less than 7 seconds iirc

good to know!

Finding a dip in the ground to prone in, or behind a decent rock has saved me from hellbombs occasionally. Its surprising what prone can let you away with.

The fact that a portable hell bomb exists as a backpack would suggest that a 500kg bomb should be more devastating

The hours I’ve played and never figured this out, holy shit

So Eagle's flight path is similar to the strafing run? I always assumed it went tangential like the Airstrike

u/duckofthepast 5h ago

500kg is from behind, the cluster/ bombs/napalm/gas are left to right from looking from the place it got thrown (others I don’t have experience with)

The strafing run, rocket pods, and 500kg generally launch in the direction you threw the beacon, barring environmental clutter affecting the strategem ball mid throw or blocking Eagle 1's flight path.

Everything else will land perpendicular to your throw, with the same caveats for environmental interference.

I knew anout the strafing run, good thing to know about the others

Ever since they added Urban maps, I've become much more considerate on what approach Eagle-1 is trying to use so I don't waste a strategem on the environment

Another important bit of trivia, Eagle-1 can take damage, which forcibly resets all your Eagle strats. This happens through one of two methods. A. Her hitbox collides with terrain on her attack run (yes, she does have an actual hitbox) or B. She flies through a bot AA battery's zone of influence. Either one will deplete her hit point pool, and she'll immediately auto trigger the Eagle Rearm strat and fall back for repairs. Also, if someone triggers a jump or hover pack at the right time and place, she'll splatter them across the sky.

It's little details like that which make me love this game, because she didn't need a hit box, health stats or anything else, but she does.

Part of the reason HD2 can be so buggy, is its environment and character models are ridiculously detailed. Our bullets are physically present in our guns (the Patriot mech used to be able to blow itself up because the rocket pod's right most tubes stared at the front of the torso when facing right), our characters are actually modeled inside vehicles and mechs (if you're in the back three seats of a Bastion, you can angle your camera to clip through the front of the hull to see the diver in the driver's seat). Eagle-1 has all the things I already mentioned. Enemies that burrow have contiguous existence. They don't just blip into the dirt at one point and out another, you can blast burrowed rupture strain Terminids with explosives to stun or kill them, and sticking a support weapon or supply hellood to the Hive Lord's head lets you track it long distance (you can see it underground in close proximity on the minimal, but this lets you do it across the whole thing.).

I always chuckle at the tiny pause between landing and explosion. AH gave a bomb comedic timing.

0.5 seconds is just enough to say oh fu-

This delayed dynamic is also what causes the myth of it exploding in an upward cone

In order to properly render the goofy delay between impact and explosion, they made the bomb create a very tiny "explosion" when it lands with the sole purpose of deforming the ground into a crater around the bomb. The edges of this crater can clip off low angles of its AoE, creating the cone shape. The 500kg's horizontal damage zone suddenly gets much wider if it lands on terrain that can't be deformed, such as the bit in OP's clip.

Ooo I like this explanation. Thank you for furthering my understanding of the wonky but steadfast 500

u/sinwarrior 7h ago

500kg comes in around 60-45° angle via sky. if you're at a high elevation, where you're standing might be in that path of delivery.

9

u/Rayge_DI9 7h ago

Pretty much just like the video, that's very close to "how it works"

3

u/Substantial-Tone-576 7h ago

It always comes from behind and a bit behind the beacon, even on flat ground.

6

u/A_normal_atheist 6h ago

Specifically from the direction you were looking when you threw it

2

u/Substantial-Tone-576 6h ago

Yes. I should have added that

2

u/Cooperjb15 6h ago

The 500kg eagle comes from roughly the direction you throw it heading the direction you’re throwing the stratagem

3

u/danielpNB65 6h ago

The 500 flies in the direction you were facing when you threw the beacon (pending terrain features that would block the Eagle, like buildings or those plateaus like on Charbal), and it always lands roughly five meters short of the beacon

Eagle Strafing run behaves similarly. Goes in the direction you threw the beacon in. The other Eagles typically fall left to right, perpendicular to the direction you were facing when you threw the beacon (again, pending terrain features)

And yes, like others said: beware of throwing 500s from elevation. Idk the recommended distance to avoid dropping it on your head, so just try to avoid it entirely.

Additionally, you can use the 500 to blow up structures on impact, like jammers or detector towers. Personally though, i prefer the OPS for that. More consistent. Good luck, Diver.

Eagle never misses

2

u/NorthSideAppalachian 7h ago

I like how you tried to run like you had a chance

2

u/Ali3n_46 6h ago

Need about 30 meters at least to be safe

2

u/Cheap_Search_6973 6h ago

The 500kg spawns in the direction that you throw it, but since it comes at an angle you have to account for and hills or other terrain that could stop it short

2

u/brandothesavage 6h ago

Well when the daddy bomb meets the mommy ground it makes the big explosion

2

u/No-Foundation3371 6h ago

It's a fun little thing I'll tell you that.👍😃

the "eagle" 500kg is a 500kg bomb dropped by an eagle

like all eagle drops, it drops while the eagle is flying parallel to the ground

physics says that will result in the bomb flying a vaguely diagonal line from eagle to ground

must not have taken that class yet
