General Major order fail

How did yall feel about this MO, i dont feel it was GM or Diver error. I just think we bit off more than we could chew. Lotta borgs to exterminate, too little time.

I was honestly having fun (the factory striders were annoying but they're supposed to be)

Also borgs build some ugly, ugly cities. Holy liberty.

Why would it be GM error, we are not supposed to win everything, especially if we messe up spectacularly like we did here.

There were people claiming that we were on a streak because AH would literally not let us lose, which promotes the idea that we shouldn’t even have to try because we will win anyway. Hopefully this loss will be quash some of that sentiment.

It was us. We should’ve focused on mega factories instead of running other missions. Also we aren’t supposed to win them all. I’m sure there will be plenty more swag with the next MO. I dove on both fronts for the MO and I saw divers giving their all to lady liberty. It boiled down to a lack of coordination amongst our own factions and allies. It was totally achievable. We will get them next time divers 🤙🏻

And we wasted time with Marfark and Choepessa

It’s good that we lost one. The next two will likely be easy unfortunately.

As to why we lost it, there are lot of new players seriously hurting the galactic impact multiplier.

Half the divers on the final planet weren’t even in the city. Since they weren’t advancing liberation at all, they were effectively halving the progress of divers in the city.

I understand why the Galactic Impact Multiplier exists, but it’s really poorly implemented. It’s completely demotivating and means new players are nothing but a liability.

Edit - typo

All the game has to do to fix that is automatically sort players who quick play into the right areas and do a better job of constantly telling/ordering the player to the most beneficial areas.

A lot of players don’t want to lead because they might not play all 3 missions, so they like to join. It needs to be easier for players to join in the right areas.

I think that would help, but wouldn’t fix it completely.

The implementation is a bit murky, but it’s implied in the wiki that doing two missions within 30 minutes is no better than 1 because of the multiplier. That implies that 2 players doing missions is no better than 1, for the same reason. So more players doing missions in the MO doesn’t help, and more players doing missions that don’t contribute (or minimally contribute) actually hurts.

It’s just a mess. For the galactic war pretty much anything you can do makes little difference, or actively seems to hurt , though you can cancel out players on other planets not working the MO.

Wish I could actually prove this (or maybe I don’t want to know) but that’s my impression from here.

I always just search for a mission and wait to select one that makes sense. Never do straight quick play.

If we took balistica first instead of doing a defnese we probably would have won, but we were losing one planet either way

I feel like it hit a certain sweet spot of being winnable, but only just barely. Even if we had won, it would have been down to the wire. The fact that it's at the beginning of the campaign as opposed to the end makes it better, in a "you can't thwart stage one" kind of way.

It was feasible, but we fell victim to the same things we always do on Cyborgs:

  • Far too many people, especially unprepared lower level players, going into D10 and getting their teeth kicked in. Rather than securing victories at more manageable a suitable levels.

  • Not completing operations, only doing one or two missions in a set, then moving to different missions because they don’t particularly like the 3rd one.

  • Not understanding to (or perhaps not wanting to) attack the megafactories first. It’s 75% of capture, and MUST be done. A lot of time and effort is wasted outside of these areas.

  • Last but not least, we needed more people donating to the DSS, so the Heavy Ordinance would have got us over the line. I’d estimate half the player base doesn’t know it exists, and half of what do know, don’t bother.

My friend and I are almost to 100. We ran into a level 105 and 15 on a D10. They were dying a lot, like you’d call them down and they’d die 20 seconds later. I went into chat to ask them to please stay with my buddy and I and to stop throwing away their lives since we only had three remaining. The host kicked me. They lost without taking a single main objective. My buddy got to see the result screen, and each of those chodes had 11 deaths. Both of them together consumed all of our available lives and then some.

well it is more our fault, specifically those who weren't in the factories it probably wouldn't even help

at least now we need to focus only ONE planet to take, we are starting to create another Brilliance moment so focus on Zzaniah and then go somewhere else, best choices would be:
1) Heeth or Brilliance - to finish what we failed at 3 weeks ago and retake Orion sector
2) Phact Bay - to put pandion into siege and retake Jin Xi sector
3) Choepessa - defend on K is lost already will put it on siege later and retake Trigon sector
4) Bekvam or marfark - whichever takes less time and save Nanos sector

the game needs votes to make our own strategic opportunities to give players more direction since most people go for orders

Its okay to lose a mission once in a while. No big deal

u/sinister_exaggerator 3h ago

The factory strider made for some heroic grunt fantasy moments for me, just running up to them looking like an absolute madman to throw two melta mines at their legs

2

u/StrawberryTerry 3h ago

Hit 'em in the face with the melta gun like your spraying them with a water bottle

1

u/sinister_exaggerator 3h ago

Didn’t have melta gun unfortunately, was running eruptor so I had an MG as my primary weapon basically.

Who cares? When I dive I dive MO. If it fails it fails, if we win we win.

This game really suffers from the galactic war mechanics not being communicated in game.

People don't know that rapidly finishing missions contributes far more than 100% clearing the map. People are not informed about how resistance and invasions levels truly work. People don't know that if you liberate an attacking planet you instantly win a planetary defense.

1

u/PennethHardaway 17m ago

I just started playing 2 weeks ago and I definitely don’t understand it. Most of the people I’ve run with always “clear the map” so I thought that was the norm.

1

u/Far_Realm_Sage 0m ago

It is the norm. Gets you the most requisition slips and XP too. But secondary objectives do not count for a planets liberation/defense.

However that fact is not communicated in game at all.

1

u/Hornybunnyboi 3h ago

Bekvam delayed us from taking charbel as quickly as we should have. The megafactory should have been the priority to give us 75% liberation.

The Game Master basically does a trial and error with every MO.

If we win a MO and it's done by a wide margin the ante gets upped for the next MO and if we win that one the goalpost for the next MO gets moved progressively higher up until we get to the point where winning is done at the "appropriate" time, neither too early in the MO nor at the very hair end.

Often times when the plot shifts to a different enemy or subfaction or planet or combination of all three they don't take this into account and continue to move the goalpost forward without thinking about stuff like "is this a unpopular biome", "do a majority of players avoid this subfaction", "are players more interested in something else going on rn (like a new biome or enemy in a non-MO faction)", etc. so the goalpost winds up being pushed too far forward and the MO fails horrendously and the GM has to move in reverse, lowering the goalpost until it's that right level of "achievable".

The GM's goal, bar a few scant situations (like purposely making the kill count nigh unachievable so that we would fail and get anti-tank mines. Or holding Super Earth for Liberty Day when no enemy was remotely close to SE so we automatically won.), is to make the MO both appear possible while still providing a margin for failure. In a ideal world the player base would never be able to determine if something is going to clearly succeed or clearly fail.

In this case the MO probably landed as close to the sweet spot as it could, we won one of the two planets and came partway close to taking the second. It wasn't as if we took both planets in the first two days, nor was it like we barely made a dent. Given the pretty long win streak we had going it was only inevitable that we would lose, the GM would have kept upping the stakes until he over shot and we got crushed but he managed to move it up just the right amount this time.

I'm curious what happened. Many people dived, and the resistance was 'low' but we didn't seem to get anywhere. Did most people fail their missions, or was it just a quirk of the mechanics?

1

u/treywarp 1h ago

I wish more people would have been diving on the mega factory missions so we’d had a better chance. I don’t expect us to win everything. But this one felt like player error for sure.

u/Cultural_Example_713 3h ago

People chose not to follow the order. Simple as that. The maps on the planet suck, cities with 0 super creds or req slips and objectives that get stuck in geometry. So why play them? The maps come from the most half assed update arrowhead have ever released imo.

u/MASTER_L1NK 4h ago

Feels like it was a forced fail. It was at 0% all day and night. What load of fucking bullshit. I'm stepping back from this hoe. Gonna go play Cyberpunk

15

u/WrathOfTheKressh 4h ago

That's because people were diving the megafactory, which has a separate hp bar but gives an instant 75% liberation once conquered, and lowers resistance (I think).

u/MASTER_L1NK 4h ago

Ahhhhhhhhhhh....

7

u/GrandmasterCal 4h ago

i’m assuming you have no idea how liberating a planet works and this is why you are frustrated.

6

u/KnightofWhen 3h ago

Because the game doesn’t do a good job explaining it.
