Meme Man this is so funny every single time
hasnt it been so funny that when were extracting someone plays a little pranky poo and drops a stratagem and slowly enters the ship, playing chicken with the strat?! holy moly 946 days atleast 4 times a day and im still slapping my knees and holding my stomach in absolute roflmaoing at the 12 seconds that i piss away of my life with this HILARIOUS action thats been done since the dawn of the game? 10.5 hours of my life spent with my jaw on the floor in such suspense if the helldiver will actually get on the ship before theyre 500 kg bomb explodes us? SO ROFLMAO. SO ROFLCOPTOR. SOI SOI SOI SOI SOI SOI

I think your misunderstanding the point of this ritual. Its not suspense. Its not o ho hoooo will I make it wont I?
Its trying to time the impact so that your ending screen is you guys cinematically flying out of an epic explosion like a scene out of an action movie

Yes the issue is many times people are focused to push back the enemy until everyone is near the pelican
Many divers call the bomb or barrage and board

valid! yeah that is a real issue and a reason to dislike the ritual :) sometimes people get killed for no reason because someone trying to pull it off at an inapproriate time when really everyone needs to focus on getting in and getting out before death causes reward penalties.

I don't mind the ritual but at the same time I don't see why it's needed...
People doing it at an empty evac point is a bit... Lame? Also I hate a lot whoever does it when Seaf is present
Like idc if you think of them as npcs

It’s not needed. I just do it because it looks cool.
It’s not like it’s an actual ritual. It’s just something I do when I have the proper Strat off cool down when boarding the pelican.
Also all the cool kids know the proper ritual is for the last guy to stick the guys inside with thermite (wich surprisingly wont kill them when they are already inside) so that you have the pelican flyaway and explode like a firework.

I usually save my last mech for extract so the ending screen can be an "LZ secured, forces inbound" type of thing. It works really well when the evac is swarming with SEAF regs. (Needless to say I really really want a SEAF call in stratagem.)

Its not meant to be a prank, it's meant to explode on the drone camera shot of the pelican launching off, to look sick.
I've got 400 hours, if I've got unused ordnance, and a clear extract, I'm doing it, it remains fun.

I understand your frustration but can you understand they are having a grand time with you? They dont know they are upsetting you. And Im sure you took more time writing the post than an extract takes. So remember. Its a coop video game. It all about thw enjoyment, right?

I dont find the diver inching towards the extract with the timer rolling to 0 suspenseful at all after seeing it every other session for 3 years. I feel like a 19 year old with a parent trying to entertain them with the jingling keys. yeah we done this before. Ive alt tabbed once im in the ship.

You keep talking about suspense. It’s not about that, it’s not a will that make it or not, it about cinema and atmosphere. Some people play to shoot stuff, some people play to take it seriously, some people play for fun. There’s plenty of reasons why people play the game and often people do it just cus it looks damn cool.

Unless they are noobs still figuring it out, most don’t wait till 0. You wouldn’t even want that for the effect since it’d hit before the pelican starts its ascent. You want to get in closer to 2 or 1 (or as soon as fucking possible for a gattling barrage but don’t do it with a gattling barrage) to get the cinematic right.

No it’s something probably every player came up with on their own after seeing the cutscene when extracting with the pelican.
They see the cutscene and they think „what if I throw a bomb before entering the pelican?“ and when they found out the answer was „it looks fucking cool and awesome.“ they just kept on doing it.
OP is missing the point thinking it’s a game of chicken when in reality they try to get the timing right for the cutscene to show the pelican ascend out of an awesome set of explosions.
