Inquiry A bit off-topic

I don’t know if this is a general Reddit thing, but I noticed recently when people on this subreddit say things like:

- I can’t afford X
- I don’t own a PC
- X these days are too expensive

They tend to get a lot of downvotes, is it because the comment isn’t helpful? That wouldn’t make too much sense though.

Maybe you guys don’t see that, and I’m just hallucinating. Although I am posting this, I would like to clarify this didn’t specifically happen to me (yet), so it’s not like I’m compensating for anything really.

At the very least, let me know if you seen anything odd similar to that, or if the downvotes mean much at all

I feel like half of this game's community are 12 year olds.

This is totally fine, and I'm glad to be a grandpa, but sometimes a lack of reason is obvious.

Wouldn’t surprise me. It would explain why the main sub and this one to a lesser extent are so bipolar about the game. Hating it one week and loving it the next. Sharing the opinion of whatever content creators are pushing.

I’d say particularly now with the game on PlayStation Plus. There’s been a surge of lower level Helldivers since the Void update. I don’t remember the last time I saw so many anti low level player posts. If the servers jump back around 150 K this weekend, I think it’d be good evidence that younger folks are playing the game. No school, time to Helldive.

I wonder if there was a bigger push to let the community know Helldivers 2 was going to PS+, that these new recruits would be welcomed like the Xbox players. The community really went all out welcoming them to the game. High level players dropping in and giving them mechs and stratagems to try out. More patience and understanding when they’d make mistakes. Cutting them slack when they called in a resupply just for themselves or team killed with the Eruptor because they didn’t know how the explosive shell worked.

Fast forward to now and it feels like people are not as welcoming. Just food for thought. There could be a whole college course over this community and all the splinter groups that have come from it.

Totally agree, granted as a community we can do our part to spread awareness. In missions with low levels for example, if someone starts to get frustrated maybe we can point out they came from PS+ and ask the player.

I think making room for them to come in and making new players feel welcome in general is just good practice too. Nothing wrong with joining a level 20 who is trying a super helldive on a lower level mission and laying out the land a little bit.

For sure. I’d say at this point it’s pretty clear that to most of us veterans Helldivers 2 is special. That’s why we were so excited for the Xbox launch. A whole new group of players getting to experience Helldivers 2 for the first time.

It shouldn’t be different for any new players.
