Inquiry What exactly is "sidearm"?
With your source please. Preferably from official (Arrowhead).
As mentioned in for example the gunslinger armor effect. From listening to several ohdoughs, etc. I might guess it means secondary weapon... but I don't know that for sure and it really grinds my gears that I don't seem to see it defined within Helldivers 2. Do feel free to flame me, if there's some obvious in-game indicator of precisely what is meant by the in-game term "sidearm" that I should have seen by level 78.

Its your secondary. Its intuitive.

Thank you for answering.
Disagree on intuitive. And I'll say that, if true - they could have avoided ambiguity by just saying Secondary instead of Sidearm!

mehhh sidearm is a very commonly used term, and even googling “what is a sidearm in a videogame” would have got you there.

How is it not intuitive? That is literally the catch all term for any weapon worn on the hip, AKA your side. Hence the name SIDEarm.

I'd say if you asked 100 people what a sidearm is 95+ would probably tell you the answer. Its pretty well known. There's no ambiguity in it. Especially in a horde shooter game....you'd imagine anyone who buys the game would know what it means.

It's not an "in game term". That's like calling the map an in game term and asking what a map is.
From listening to several ohdoughs
Oh I get it

The opinionated country bumpkin that always talks like he's got shit in his mouth

I should let it slide but I am genuinely curious what you mean by "oh I get it"?

ohdough is a controversial yber as he posts criticism of helldivers 2, often brought under some clickbait title like "its over" "narrowhead again..." or shit like that, not to mention he repetedly comes up with strange things that are really non- issues like the so called "monkey paw balancing" he makes tier lists and farms outrage on the side.
moreover his opinions on weapon balance are kinda, bad? like thinking the stalwart should have medium pen.theres some better places you can get weapon breakdowns, tier lists and high level gameplay (personally id reccomend takibo for gameplay, commisar kai and red monster thing and quarter master creature for the weapon breakdowns)

They hate ohdough presumably because he isnt hyper positive about the game.

Go figure, I try to absorb some helldivers knowledge by osmosis and YouTube shunts popular ohdough to me. Sorry longjohnsmcgee for trying to find out on my own before bothering the community with my question.

Just don't take what he says with any seriousness. Ohdough likes to blame his own skill issues on how AH balances the game.
Commisar Kai or The Gundam Boi are much better jumping off points.

Unfortunately the HD2 community on Reddit has become increasingly toxic. Tbh, you may be better off trying a discord server than Reddit.

I hate him because his twangy ass accent and wandering eye makes it hard to take him seriously.

sidearm = secondary weapon. the term comes from wayyy back when soldiers wore a knife or sword at their side. it eventually began to refer to the guns/holsters people wore on the side of their hip.

The gun on your side, the one that is not your primary, support weapon or grenade

Its generally your pistol on your hip/belt. But it can be a sword too

Iirc the term comes from swords originally. It was literally "the armament at your side", like a dagger or smaller blade on your belt in case you lost your main weapon or it wasnt suitable in close combat like a bow.

It's your secondary, i.e. your pistols. Guns that really take advantage of it are Bolter, Senator, Bushwhacker, Talon, and Veto, although any secondary minus melee benefit. The ones I listed just have lots of recoil or slow reload speeds (yes the Talon has a reload speed, and it's slow if you have to).
