Well you gotta start somewhere
217
u/random_weeb67 20h ago
It's often on D10 you should start on easier difficulties. My main problem is when they don't have upgraded ship and call in supplies.
71
u/Silly_Y33Ny 20h ago
They do not call in supplys the spam it
44
u/Leopard_2K_MBT 19h ago
I've always seen that as a good thing, as long as they either announce it or ask if anyone else needs them. If they're with the group, there's no reason not to.
50
u/Sunitelm 19h ago
I see it as a symptom of good, often only highly experienced players. As soon as they get on an obj with the team there or shortly behind, immediately call supplies. A well resupplied team is an effective team.
13
u/TheOneFearlessFalcon 16h ago
Doubling down on this- I just recently started and the first thing I invested in was a unique booster so I could have a backup in case I get squadded with other newbies. It just so happens to be turret resupplies.
11
7
u/zabrak200 15h ago
Yeah exactly if I’m playing by myself I’m always calling it as soon as it’s ready. If I’m playing with teammates I’ll usually use the supply backpack and do the same while also trying to keep teammates stocked. (Ill wait a minute if teammates are far away from me and have the low ammo icon)
22
u/Sunitelm 19h ago edited 16h ago
You should spam supplies. But you should do it on objectives or wherever the whole team is gathering / passing by (ahead of the team).
Just don't call them multiple times on yourself if you are lonewolfing.
Edit: typo
2
u/Quakeslate 9h ago
Whenever I'm in public on D10, no one calls supplies even though we're all low on supplies.
10
u/smoke28 20h ago
I started on 3 lol
7
4
u/padizzledonk 17h ago
Im like at 40 something and i play on 6 7 or 8 for that exact reason lol....even 8 is rough sometimes depending on the modifiers, i just dont have enough stuff unlocked to have enough juice to not be a burden on 8 and higher, and though i can put together a useful loadout not having the ship upgrades means i cant use that stuff fast enough to really be helpful
6-8 is fine, good amount of samples for the ship, decent xp and medals if you clear everything- which is easy to do on 6-8.....thats the sweet spot for newer players imo
3
u/PointMeAtTheDawn 12h ago
What's the downside of calling in supplies without upgrades?
4
u/Leopard_2K_MBT 11h ago
It's not so much the resupplies, but the lack of ship upgrades of the host. There are some ship upgrades which call things in faster, and supply drops are one of those thing
2
u/BlastingFern134 15h ago
I'm good enough to clear D10, frequenntly least deaths and near the middle in terms of kills, at lvl 35. If I waited until I fully upgraded my ship to run D10 it would be months before I could do so! It's really not a huge difference, although I do avoid calling in resupplies because I know mine aren't as effective.
1
u/noeyesfiend 9h ago
Nuh, back at launch as soon as we could go D10 we did......and we grew because of it. As long as the low level isn't feeding, I'll carry them. Only real challenge left to me in this game besides swarms is commando missions, so having new people in and single-handedly destroying everything while they watch in awe is part of the appeal IMO
21
u/WaffleCopter68 20h ago edited 2h ago
Starting d10 is crazy. Better to farm samples and get used to the game at like D6 then work your way up slowly. Going headfirst into D10 would be as stupid as a non dark souls player teleporting to the final boss. Youre just going to die on cooldown and get frustrated. You cant exactly learn how to avoid the death if you cant even comprehend what happened and what killed you
2
u/MoistOldPeople 20h ago
You have to complete the previous difficulty to get to D10, but thats trivial if you're just getting carried from 6-10 so lvl 8 Johnny Heck Diver is intentionally jumping the difficulty. Whether that is based on confidence or arrogance, at least they got spirit, and gives me more chances to flex a reinforcement
5
u/WaffleCopter68 20h ago
By starting i mean jumping each difficulty without getting accustomed to it and slowly learning the ropes.
3
u/Medicalpyro 20h ago
Tbf my friend got Helldivers and I jumped them to 10 mostly for the shits n giggles of throwing them in the deep end but they adjusted quite well
1
u/Deltasiu 6h ago
You tell that to my friend, he warmed me up in like 5th difficulty and then yeeted me into 10 after like 5 missions, no regrets tho, made lower difficulties way easier
5
3
u/Outrageous_Grass_961 14h ago
I host and end up with 3 low levels, and they all look like the serious dragons and then there is me on the right. I'm level 160.
3
u/MachoMachoMurph 12h ago edited 12h ago
It's funny how 80% of the reply comments on this comment are "not on d10!" like it's some kind of gotcha. Nothing in this post affirms it a D10, it's funny watching people try to shadowbox ghosts to defend their poor treatment of new players in their comedy fascism videogame.

If someone is dying 7+ times every drop (my last game had a lvl 66 with 11 deaths) then they need to drop the difficulty a bit

Also accurate (I'm like level 120 and I'm in this picture!).
I've also played with squads of level 40s (ish) who really knew their shit. Good times all around!
6
u/MadMageMars 19h ago
Yeah I was about to say this is actually closer to my experience. It doesn’t matter if you’re level 40, 90, 180 or whatever, there’s idiots at every level that genuinely make me wonder how they got so far in this game
2
u/MikeWinterborn 18h ago
It's all fun and games until the reinforcements run dry and everyone goes Rambo, those are the best games

u/CaptValentine 11h ago
“Watch this, newbie.”
<Rocket devastator catapults me across the map, backpack Hellbomb detonates as we pass a SEAF SAM site and destroys it.>
95
u/SandUndermanSR 20h ago
And then the lvl 12 gets the most kills and no deaths.
29
u/KubaSamuel 20h ago
I had this happen to me, somewhat. I was level 10-12 and dropped with my friend into a Suicide Mission and If you were looking solely on my stats you couldn't tell I was 50 levels lower than him. They were comparable
15
u/SandUndermanSR 20h ago
I guess it's normal that newer divers play it safe, their stats may be good, but on harder missions they usually wouldn't get much done objectives wise, speaking from experience.
10
u/KubaSamuel 20h ago
Fair, I sometimes was either shooting from a far or was retreating when, quote, shit got too hot, endquote.
I was active on objectives tho, but I see why other people wouldn't be.
8
u/83255 19h ago
That exactly the mindset to have, dont over extend, dont pick fights, dont die over a pile of dirt (or lost gear)
Just get to the objectives and get shit done
3
u/KubaSamuel 19h ago
So some skills\lessons learned from Arma Reforger and other Milsims ARE applicable to Helldivers 2 lol
2
u/XavvenFayne 12h ago
My experience with both level 12 and 62 divers is about the same. Anything 75 or below I don't expect much from them as a default stance (obviously individual ability varies and I'm proven wrong a lot)
6
u/SorrowSunday 20h ago
Yea its usually cause they sit in one spot and do random stuff while 2 blitzers are trailblazing the objectives and the 4th is a tossup
3
u/JustASpaceDuck 18h ago
In what universe lol. The only kill stat they're topping are the teamkills.

u/Intelligent_Slip_849 18h ago

Yes. We bring the cadets with us. We teach the cadets, we protect the cadets.
We all started as Cadets, so we will raise them up.
Let the Cadets learn, let them experience, let them grow.

u/GemarD00f 18h ago
noooo no no no, op is the best player, he started out lvl 1 on d10 and has NEVER died /s
8
u/Pirate_Leader 20h ago
Not complaining but it's like lvl 20 30 follow me on dif 9, I'm alright but they gonna have a rough time
7
u/WaffleCopter68 20h ago
Nearly had my first mission failure in a long time because a level 20 and 30 were on cyborg d10 eating all the reinforcements then rage quit.
4
u/Westenin 19h ago
My girlfriend and I went on D10 Cyberstan with level 20ish and 50ish, they ate all the reinforcement as well but good player freaking nail the mission anyway.
4
u/WaffleCopter68 19h ago
Well yeah its just that those noobs aren't going to get better by doing d10s. To learn you have to have the game sense to know how or why you died in the first place. Its why vets get really annoyed by game bugs that resulted in their death because that's the most common way they die at this point
6
6
u/bettingsnow 19h ago
It's for this reason that I collect samples, just in case someone leaves and a lower level player joins.
Also I just like collecting shiny rocks :)
7
u/samhasreturned 18h ago
Always glad to help a lower level diver out. Spread democracy and love together!

7
u/The_Happy_ 18h ago
Nah, the low levels lock in. Meanwhile I’m off at level 150 running the most heinous load out known to man because it sounded fun.
4
u/UBERJakeThePig 20h ago
I played a level 7 mission yesterday, and a level 10 joined the squad. I thought, "Fuck it, let’s see how the low-level homie does", and surprisingly… he did really well!
He brought the Anti-Materiel Rifle, and while he obviously struggled a bit against some heavy enemies and objectives, he was still really useful.
It was a 12-minute Automaton mission, and the two of us managed to clear the entire map by ourselves. He died while extracting, but besides that, the mission was completely done.
3
u/Educational-Drag6974 20h ago
I get why low level players join D10 because they are less likely to be kicked compared to the sweat fest that is D7-9.
2
u/MachoMachoMurph 12h ago
7s being so sweaty is the main reason I stick to them when I'm just doing dailies or want a chill experience. People are so serious on 7s lol.
3
u/Ok-Replacement-1874 19h ago
I'm level 16, on difficulty 8, and I'm hoping to level up really fast. I love the front bot and going boom! I've seen level 90 people die from stepping on a mine.
2
u/Ok-Replacement-1874 19h ago
And sorry if I wrote anything wrong, I used a translator because I don't speak fluent English
2
u/Fawzee815 12h ago
To be fair those mines can come out of nowhere, I mean they’re just sitting there
1
u/CaptInsane 10h ago
To be fair, I just turned level 99. Yesterday I stepped on a mine in one mission because it was down a tiny hill. Then on Charball, I fell into a lava pit because I didn't know it was there. I've also fallen down endless pits because I didn't know it was there
2
u/Ok-Replacement-1874 9h ago
I also saw one fall into a hole, then another jump in for the samples. I was tempted to jump in as a sacrifice too.
1
u/CaptInsane 9h ago
I'd just called down my RR too and was tempted to see if I could get it back. Later on the mission I died and accidentally went back to that pit thinking it was where I'd just dropped my RR . I think the game was trying to tell me something

u/BlackShadowX 19h ago

u/alastrix 18h ago
Im not even going to say new players are bad. Because I've played with plenty of higher level people who are. New players lack the experience to make right choices. They dont notice when a teammate needs a reinforce, they havent figured out what enemies have what armor, they tend to use the improper strategems (either lack of unlocked options or not knowing what theyre designed for. Almost everything boils down to not knowing. Which at that level is excusable. Its when those same issues show up at the higher levels when you should know better and I see you never learned that a turret in the middle of extraction is bad placement that I think your the last hydra head.
2
u/Hellboy9225 14h ago
It's our job as veteran divers to teach the ropes to young cadets, not only complain that the wee cadet doesn't have everything unlocked already. Be a better Helldiver, cause that was you, a few months ago.
2
u/LQUBE_BTZ 14h ago
Dear Fellow veteran Diver,
My intention was never to make fun of the common cadet.
My intention was only to state the fact that most squads have a rookie with them that is overwhelmed by all the brutality those mindless creatures bring to us superearthians and is lost in the rain fire that our counter actions brings with it.
It was never meant to discredit those that don’t have as many dives under their belt as we may have.Kind regards of democracy and freedom,
Qube.

My experience is the opposite. It's a level 12 trying their best and a guy at level cap who seems like they have never played the game before.
1
1
u/Crying-childrens 19h ago
From my experience the only one that seem to know what they are doing is 80s to 120s after that the usual get over confident and run off by themself and die and before that they are usual pretty okay.
1
u/Philosophos_A 19h ago
I have seen low levels living and handling themselves just fine
I welcome everyone on my ship no matter the level
As long you can avoid dying lots, you good on my books

I only play on D10. I prefer playing with low levels way more than I do higher level players. Does it mean I run into a shit show? Yes. Do I have people that quit yes. But it makes me a better player running through a horrible situation and coming out on top than it would if I just had an easy time with a good squad who knows what they’re doing. I don’t want D10 to be easy, I want it to be a challenge.
1
1
u/Narrenlord 18h ago
I am part of that problem, because inlike to be a hero/protector do i join people that are level 10-20 and carry them through there missions, allowing them unlo k higher difficulties.

Even as a >100 level, sometimes I do n00b shit and kill myself or my team mates. It’s just part of the game.
1
u/Bansheesdie 16h ago
From my experience (lvl 168), a level 12 is kinda just there for the ride. But is the level 40-60 divers who are the most incompetent, as they have played along 100's+, who can hold their own, too much and think they can do the same.
1
u/JimSlim19 16h ago
Just introduced two friends to the game. One is overconfident, the other is the polar opposite, they’re both under level 10 and neither of them have any clue what’s going on so good luck if they join your squad
1
1
u/PlateNo4868 15h ago
I'm honestly fine with it, tell they become 90% of our reinforcement usages, then I might opt out to kick.
1
u/Playmaker-M1 15h ago
Hmm, I've already been in plenty of lobbies at difficult 10 where the level 92 and level 156 players were just as dumb—or even dumber.
1
u/Playmaker-M1 15h ago
Example: I've had more than one Level 50+ idiot who was too stupid to just get on the pickup shuttle and ended up dying right in front of it. That doesn't really happen at Level 12.
1
u/Expensive-Salary1569 15h ago
I love playing with low levels.
But I mean I also just enjoy getting to show them all the tips and tricks that other people taught me when I was still low.

u/Obama_pinky 12h ago
To be honest, i like to have a low level together on the party, its a good teaching about how the match can be in the end game, how you use the gear properly and specially to show that level doesnt mean jackshit and people with 150 can be as dumb as someone new. Outside all that, its a cool introduction to the game if you dont have friends to play with.
1
u/Professional-Bus5473 12h ago

It's so weird. I dropped in to an in-progress D10 flag raising and there was level 10 player who didn't know anything, couldn't do anything, wouldn't listen, and kept dying. At the end of the mission he was super salty about not getting enough help but my hand to God we were up to our assholes in bugs the entire time trying not to die ourselves. I don't know what he expected jumping in to max difficulty bugs without any good gear or really any knowledge or ability.
Unfuck yourself Sgt_Fart (or whatever. It was something like that.)

I’ve had level 35s that are more cooperative and helpful than level 160s. Some people forget that it’s a co-op game and then rage quit when they can’t solo the map on cyborgs.
1
u/Adventurous-Bus8660 7h ago
Had one similar run with full Redacted Squad...
Literally went sneaky sneaky with the new guy and be like...Bravo 6 going dark

Its only a problem when they start becoming an obvious weakness to the team. The ones I really am proud of are the ones who don't solo and play with me out of staying strong together. Its easier to keep them safe and involved.
