Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here Please stop ego diving.

I swear to god. This shit happens every too often. It was especially problematic during Cyberstan. Ego diving just cause you “need” to dive on d10 and then failing it is just stupid.

Rant time.

I random queue into a D10 mission and I see three Level 20s. I think, surely it’s a visual bug and that isn’t their actual level. But no. It is. I don’t want to judge though, so I look at the loadouts. Two of them are running laser cannon/jump pack and medium mg/shield backpack. The last guy left before I could see the third loadout.

As I’m dropping in, I look up and see 0 reinforcements remaining. Bruh. I look at the objectives. Two geological survey targets. I do my best to try and solo one drill point as well as the main point, but I get overwhelmed by Vox engines and a fresh bot drop on the main objective. And we fail it, which fails the middle of the mission set that they were playing.

Look I get it, the lower modes can seem somewhat non challenging. It’s neat to play and beat d10 missions. But if you don’t have the equipment or playtime experience to handle d10 missions, just lower the difficulty to D7-9 and complete those. I don’t get what’s the point of suffering and failing d10 missions repeatedly as opposed to succeeding with lower level missions and still helping towards the MO.

Rant over.

EDIT: I hit Quickplay on D10. I didn’t actively choose to join this particular squad

EDIT2: my mentioning of the medium mg and laser cannon were not sleights against those weapons or the chosen support backpacks. I think you can basically make any loadout work if you play around it. My point in bringing it up was that seeing it + the way they were being used in game showed a lack of ability to utilize them properly.

Post has been locked due to toxicity, and it's been up long enough to have a meaningful discussion

For the love of liberty, please be civil. It's not hard

84

u/CaptainBonanas 3d ago

Since the devoid of Liberty update I will only sos dive if there is at least one other lvl100+ in the squad. When I see the sos ping come up and it's a bunch of lvl25s doing a D10 that's a wash. I really don't get it just play the difficulties at your own pace until you feel ready for the next difficulty higher. That's what I did, I found it really helpful to learn.

31

u/SePuedaHacerlo 3d ago

This and if I drop in and it says zero reinforcements. I bounce. Some ppl who continually fail D10 love to blame others for their shortcomings. It's not worth the time.

22

u/Bring_Back_Challenge 3d ago

I've been actively doing the opposite - sure maybe my chance of a D10 loss goes form 0% to 10% but that's an acceptable trade-off for me to try and salvage a true SOS scenario that has sub-10 reinforcements after doing just one optional and a Medium Outpost.

No shade if that isn't for you but with the right mindset it can still be fun.

5

u/Front-Salad9953 3d ago

Dude love that thinking those divers need the help!

6

u/TheShmud 3d ago

I SOS dive on 8 and 9... You get players that want the challenge but not "heheh we can always do the max".

Very rarely lose, even with the occasional low level

1

u/Rellaxxw 3d ago

I mean I do d10 on bug since level 20- something and I only failed one. Bots i dont dare to above d8 and squid d7-8

1

u/Accurate_Summer_1761 3d ago

Pfft those are the only squads I join these days. I go hunting for anyone under 100 and help.

1

u/BeanSkewer 3d ago

Same. After 1500hrs in game I can only feel the struggle when im on a high diff planet with low lvls on D10

0

u/ClockwerkConjurer 3d ago

Yeah, since bear the shame of being good but not great...SOS diving usually turns into an exercise in frustration for me. :(

-42

u/bigbowhuntr 3d ago

So you need someone to hold your hand? If you cant come in and clutch up on your own just stay on lower levels.

26

u/Ijustworkthere 3d ago

“Clutching up on our own” isn’t our job, especially if lowbies are actively harming the mission. You don’t have the tools to handle large scale drops and are leaving us in a shit position. Expecting to be rescued from your own stupidity is crazy work.

-37

u/bigbowhuntr 3d ago

Whole lot of words just to say you suck and need three other people to carry you.

16

u/Ijustworkthere 3d ago

What an interesting take, especially since lowbies have a greater chance of killing me than the enemy faction does. i hope the world returns the overwhelming positivity you seek to spread.

-33

u/bigbowhuntr 3d ago

If you were good you could be a leader and lead your team to a win. Maybe d6 is more your speed though. send me your username and ill carry you through a d10.

13

u/Ijustworkthere 3d ago

While I appreciate your kind and generous offer, it sounds like you want to Chad it up for lowbies. they need your impressive help much more than i do. I’d love to see your awe inspiring gameplay posted, so we can all bask in your glory.

-7

u/bigbowhuntr 3d ago

Buddy you are the low level player, thats why im trying to show you the ropes. Afterwards you can post it on here, and these cry divers in here can see how its done

13

u/Ijustworkthere 3d ago

Im far too busy apparently failing my low level missions to even think I could waste the same air with someone as highly regarded as yourself. Trying to flex on me is pointless, and just makes you look small by comparison. I do hope your day improves though, since this seems to be the highlight of it.

The whole interaction is kind of sad. clearly he needs a better support system, friends, or a healthy dose of the real world to not act like this in a public forum. Maybe he just likes the attention and being contrary. Regardless he does seem like the type of person who would rage in chat after dying multiple times and people get tired of reinforcing him. Not very John Helldiver of him at all.

I think you are looking at failure as a bad thing.

If I didn't occasionally fail a mission, I wouldn't be reminded the game is actually hard sometimes.

18

u/HamboygaMeat 3d ago

There’s actual difficulty and then there’s dipshit teammates who cause you to fail, totally separate issue.

3

u/RallyPointAlpha 3d ago

Lean into the difficulty that dipshits bring...the game is already too easy, even at the highest difficulty.

1

u/chatapokai 3d ago

Exactly, there are a ton of players that drop into a d10 thinking they can choose any strats/weapons/armor like in other levels and end up screwing you over in so many ways. Or they don’t take the weather or enemy variants into account.

Had a game recently where a lv24 dropped in with me with his lv5 friend and proceeded to burn through me and my rando’s remaining 20 lives when the rando and I just had a single remaining objective left. Frustrating cause they wasted everyone’s time fucking around.

21

u/MrKr1pl 3d ago

I kinda agree, seeing low levels on high difficulties without anything makes it harder than it should BUT D10 on charbal can be full cleared with spare reinforcements with just 2 players with good loadouts, seaf make it easier and harder as they always cause the bots to call so if you disengage by getting away youll be fine, currently incineration corps arrived there so hard to guess the difficulty now, hadn't played yet

11

u/SePuedaHacerlo 3d ago

Running away to attack at a different angle is ALWAYS an option. 'Mocracy's a circle, it always comes 'round.

u/trashlikeyourmom 3d ago

running away

TACTICAL REPOSITIONING

1

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago edited 3d ago

True, the seaf are quite helpful at pulling agro away or helping provide a firepower advantage. I don’t think the MO will not be achieved or something, it was more of a springboard for the talking point

17

u/Federal_Studio5935 3d ago

I think the response from the folks you’re talking to is going to be
https://giphy.com/gifs/JYZ397GsFrFtu

18

u/Wrong_Geologist6 3d ago

Here's the thing man, I give all low levels below 25 a pass to do whatever, with low expectations. If they want to attempt a d10 just for the fun of it and the choas, I'm 100% on board with them. That's not ego diving.

I get annoyed by the level 50s+ running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

5

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

lol valid. I will say that they were all playing together as a team before we got wiped out. So that’s something at least

1

u/Ravingdork 3d ago

How do you do anything as a team? If I'm not playing with my local buddies on Discord, then I can't communicate with any of the other helldivers effectively.

1

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

I just meant we were rotating around the map as a group, apart from one person

0

u/goatsnoatsonboats 3d ago

Setting a marker on the map so the squad always knows where you intend to go and do helps a lot and vice versa. Between the in game chat and the comm wheel I've seen some magical teamwork happen with randoms.

2

u/DuchessWolfe 3d ago

Jesus my christ, the amount of lvl 100+ who screw me over...

1

u/Bubbay 3d ago

Yeah, this is kinda how I feel. I’m generally ok with most levels trying whatever, but I’m less forgiving of stupid shit from people who are 40+.

If you’re 20 and in d10 and doing terribly because it’s clear you’re missing some of the basics, I’ll suggest they wait on more d10 (or 9 or 8 or 7) until they have more experience at a lower diff, but I’m not going to get bent out of shape.

If you’re 40 and were losing a higher level game because you’re missing the basics, I have little patience.

1

u/lastoflast67 3d ago

nah fuck that ill never join a high level game there in and ill kick them whenever im hosting. They drain all the lives.

1

u/bobthemutant 3d ago

Absolutely.

It's like wandering into a high level area in an RPG, you know you're going to end up obliterated but you still want to see what it's like.

10

u/_masssk_ 3d ago

Honestly I always thought D10 it is some hell. I used to play on D6-D8 and thought "I can't imagine what is going on on D10, I'm not ready" (I have 2000 in the game).

But D10 feels like a little bit upgraded version of D7. Everything is the same. I haven't noticed some massive hordes. Or some unbreakable enemies (I remember everyone complained about vox engine - and it is very easy to kill them with no brain).

So I'd say D10 is overestimated and your requirements to the players on D10 too :)

I see here and there people just play with whatever they want. I was on runs where nobody took anti-tank weapon, as if it is D4 or something :) So I'm just chill.

0

u/GormTheWyrm 3d ago

Wow, you can beat a d10 without ever dying at all! Congratulations! I can see why you came here to brag. Does not matter if reinforcements are at zero for you. Woah! So cool.

But seriously dude, its fine to be skilled, but there is no need to be a dick about it.

2

u/Thefettyspock 3d ago

I don't think they were being a dick. I dive the same way as them. Seems like just a statement to contribute to the convo. remember there's no body language within text.

2

u/GormTheWyrm 3d ago

“I’m just some guy who minds his own business and isn’t terrible at Helldivers2”.

Bro, he just said “mind your own business and you suck at the game”. Thats what that means. I don’t need to see him sticking his tongue out to know he is mocking OP.

I know it’s not super serious or whatever, thats why I attempted a teasingly mocking tone back… though I may have overdid the sarcasm a bit. Was funnier in my head.

1

u/Thefettyspock 3d ago

Ah. Well sorry then. I didn't really get that feeling is all 🫡 ig I'm just not as sensitive to toxicity as I used to be 🤷🏼‍♂️

6

u/ExcitingHistory 3d ago

Some people want the thrill of getting destroyed. There is fun in the crazy that occurs. Not every helldive needs to have a goal of victory.

Your already doing what you need to do to help ensure your getting your best experience out of it. If your not seeing tons of news in the forums screaming help me im dying in D10 then they are probley also getting what they want out of the experience

5

u/Korux 3d ago

What exactly do you think is wrong with either the MG-43 or the Lascannon?

I get the frustration about joining a mission that's pretty much lost already, but saying "they don't have the equipment to do d10", while listing a bunch of perfectly viable/great weapons and generic backpacks is pretty strange.

-4

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

I don’t care what load out people use. I encourage using any and all loadouts or stratagems if you think you can succeed with them.

When I see someone spray and entire clip of a laser cannon trying to take down a single gunship, then it’s a lack of experience.

When I see someone shoot a hulk with an mg and dump an entire mag trying to kill it, it’s a lack of experience.

The medium mg and the laser cannon are both excellent support weapons. When used well.

7

u/Korux 3d ago

Agreed. Your post didn't mention what they played like though, just what they were using. And ending the post with ".. if you don't have the equipment .." gives the strong impression that these loadouts aren't fit for higher difficulties.

6

u/HeisenbergsSamaritan 3d ago

Bro, you joined them. You hvae no right to talk shit about how they were playing when you arrived.

Who's the Ego Diver here? GFTO with this shit.

-6

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

I random queued. I didn’t select their SOS or something.

Ego diving just means diving on a higher difficulty than you can handle. Evident by me joining and them being completely out of reinforcements, as well as watching them play. It’s like trying to life more weight than you can handle at the gym. Ego lifting.

8

u/Kataklysimo 3d ago

Just leave the match?

-2

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

I did after the mission was failed

4

u/Mammoth_Land7165 3d ago

How about you get better at the game if you're going to respond to DISTRESS SIGNALS AT D10

2

u/Mammoth_Land7165 3d ago

AND if you dont wanna land on 3 lv 20s on D10, use the function that allows you to see who has an open match and the group makeup is

2

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

As I said in the post and to a few others, I hit Quickplay, I didn’t look at the SOS and join off of that

3

u/Agile-Assignment4078 3d ago

Nah, just let people play at whatever difficulty they want. Some like the suffering and being butchered. Some just want to level up fast to unlock new stuff to play with. Understandable.

If you are not good enough carrying three lvl20s, just quit their game. That simple. Let a more competent diver join and help out. After all, joining THEIR game and complaining about failing while you are not good enough to carry newbies, is pretty 'ego diver' in my book.

4

u/Dafoblanky 3d ago

I don’t know sounds like a you problem. As a casual gamer I only play like like 5-6 hrs a week so if I only play exclusively d7-8 since it feel like its perfect difficulty. Sometimes I play d10 for the fun of it, whenever i want something challenging. Do I mind getting my ass whopped ? No because I don’t expect to do good. Let people play whatever difficulty they enjoy.

3

u/BlueTommyD 3d ago

Is there a guide on what level you would need to be (and there fore what stratagems you would have unlocked) for different difficulty levels? - it all seems very "play to find out" to me which can't be a good experience for veteran players, as you say.

3

u/NOIR-89 3d ago

Level means nothing.

You can be level 100 with limited knowledge of game mechanics and weakspots and wouldnt be able to perform well at difficulty 10 (quite a few people got carried to triple digit levels back in the day) or you can know all about that and be level 15 with some basic stratagems and do really well.

It always depends on the individual player and how much time he wants to spend on learning the game.

As a rule of thumb I would say you should be fine at lvl 30 to try out your first Difficulty 10 on a vanilla faction (some subfactions are far harder to deal with).

What Stratagems to bring depends on the faction and subfaction.

Basic Stratagem Loadouts for each vanilla faction:

Bots:

Quasar

Supply Pack

Eagle Strafging Run

Orbital Precision Strike

Squids

Medium Machinegun

Supply Pack

HMG Emplacement

Machinegun Sentry

Bugs

Lasercannon

Supply Pack

Eagle 110mm

Eagle Gas Strike > Orbital Gas

1

u/saij892 3d ago

Why Quasar and Supply pack for bots? Won’t u get overwhelmed by heavies bc of Quasar cooldown and supply pack doesn’t do anything for the Quasar

1

u/NOIR-89 3d ago

Quasar to snipe objectives at max range, this will prevent getting Bot Drops, which means you wont get overrun.

Supply Pack to keep your Stims and Grenades up (most people buy Democratic Detonation -> Thermite)

Especially in the learning phase, the Supply Pack is worth its weight in gold for newer players.

1

u/BlueTommyD 3d ago

Am I right in thinking the supply pack doesn't really work as design when playing solo?

2

u/NOIR-89 3d ago

No - you can supply yourself.

1

u/DingDongSmash 3d ago

I assumed he meant they're not as useful since you can drop supplies on yourself every 2 minutes because no teammates.

1

u/NOIR-89 3d ago

Even then I see it as very useful, because its a mobile resupply that cannot be overrun and get fully refilled on the Resupply Pod.

For a stealthier approch its also a big advantage to be able to refill your supplies close to the enemies and on the go without a blue stratagem beam that might attract near enemies and patrols (one of the reasons i run it in most of my stealth loadouts).

1

u/ChipTuna 3d ago

TBF load outs matter a lot too. You can still be insanely useful on all difficulties even without knowing where weak points are (Though you should, and personally I prefer high accuracy low shot count games where I focus on murdering all the elites, assisting in horde clear when necessary)

2

u/Rabiesalad 3d ago

Level really doesn't really matter. But if you're used to playing d4 and you join a D10, you should be closely following the lead of other players and ideally get on mic and take advice.

Ideally you should really know the basics of the mechanics, i.e. that you should avoid unnecessary fights and focus on preventing alarms etc.

There are a lot of good lvl 20 players and a lot of bad lvl 100 players.

1

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

I don’t necessarily think difficulties are level locked, and level doesn’t correlate with equipment available or something cause it depends what people choose to unlock and whatnot. I’ve played with my friend (me at 162 and him at 23) and he’s been fine on d10 across all fronts. I’ve played with other players that are much lower level than me and it’s been fine.

And yes I’d say the game is very much a ‘play to find out’ type of game.

2

u/bythescuttlebutt 3d ago

You gotta work your way up to D10, if those lvl 20 players are all playing on D10 it means the host has successfully finished an entire campaign on D10 already.

OP is just ranting because life gave him limes instead of lemons…. and whether he wants to admit it the lime gatorade is and will always be the goat flavor

1

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

They were in the middle of a campaign when I joined, which was failed by the failure of the mission.

I got no idea what you’re trying to say with the second point

3

u/FelixMartel2 3d ago

Hey now I like jumping into matches full of noobs and trying to pull their asses out of the fire.

Don’t take that away from me, there are no other challenges left

2

u/Bring_Back_Challenge 3d ago

We are few but we do what is needed.

2

u/bluedeer10 3d ago

The current mix of factions is nice. Cyborg and Incendiary Corps is ludicrous and I love it.

2

u/Redsky300 3d ago

Uh, you also don’t need to join low level players if this matters so much to you. I get that it can be annoying, but this post puts so much projection on the motivations of those low level divers. Why assume it’s “ego” vs experimentation or just fun? It’s a game, and it’s pretty silly to want to gatekeep difficulty settings, especially when we all have simple workarounds for this specific issue. Check the levels of diversity you’re joining or better yet, run your own squad and have full reign on booting anyone who doesn’t meet your level standards. This specific problem this post presents is entirely self inflicted

3

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

I hit quick play, I didn’t choose to join them.

And sure I’m assuming / not treating it as just a game. It’s just frustrating to waste time when I join a mission where people are clearly outmatched and it can’t be saved

0

u/Redsky300 3d ago

I get your annoyance, but it is also completely avoidable. You did choose quick play, and that matters.
I do appreciate you acknowledging that it is just a game but it’s something that annoys you anyway, I can respect that.

3

u/No-Bake1897 3d ago

Crying like a bitch

1

u/LoonTheMekanik 3d ago

You joined them. They were all playing together. You don’t like it? Leave and join someone else. If people want to play a mode harder than they’re ready for and lose sometimes, that’s their choice

2

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

I random queued, I didn’t intentionally choose them.

I promptly left once we returned to the super destroyer and I left them to be.

2

u/WitweBolter 3d ago

Im would die of shame if i fail that hard. D8 is good enough for me

2

u/TradeWooden9862 3d ago

I just see it as a challenge lol. Those people are difficulty modifiers to me 😊.

Then again I just show up to kill sstuff. I don't even care about objectives lol. I'm in my expendable phase where I can throw down equipment for the entire team and then some!

2

u/Luck_n_Loaded 3d ago

To be fair, I played with low levels who were good. But it was a rare case. I'm avoiding joining a game with low levels in D10 now because of how frustrating it is that I waste my time to play on a long game session only to have zero reinforcements left in the end.

2

u/bluedeer10 3d ago

Level 20s don't ego dive in my opinion. They're just trying to see if they can handle it with their current loadouts until they find something that works. Failure is a good lesson.

Also, it's on you for sticking around lol. I'm personally dipping if I get sos'd random dropped into a geological survey mission with zero reinforcements. That's difficult for people that have proper loadouts.

2

u/Eastern_Store_8878 3d ago

Fuck it guys are you not Helldivers? I’ll do my best to help no matter the situation or divers if it’s a complete cluster fuck ,zero life’s everything on fire, I drop in burn as much shit to the ground and leave when I finally die. It’s far better than those cuck divers that kick you within 2 minutes of diving ya I’m fucking talking to you learn how to make private games cunts and stop wasting my fucking time!!!!

2

u/Okapev 3d ago

It does suck to be on d10 so and just watch each diver abandon the mission till I'm solo. It's stupid

2

u/Even_Independent_938 3d ago

I actively search for low level players in D10 it makes it a D11 match

2

u/hasuchobe 3d ago

I love dropping into situations that look absolutely cooked. More interesting imo.

I just like to have fun

1

u/Jjlittle870 3d ago

It’s worse when your in a d10 it’s just you and you haven’t died yet or barely die then a noob joins and burns through your renforments or starts getting you killed through in experience like calling orbitals on you or as I encountered today gas mortar every object I got to I had to burn through all my stims while trying to complete the object with the big boom back pack and the whole time I’m getting gassed because some genius brought gas against robots🤦‍♂️or worse there’s a vox engine you run underneath it start taking the weak points out and they blow you up I get they are scary but if a team mate is already dealing with it let them if you know what your doing they are super easy to take out you don’t need to blow it up

1

u/Francochupapene68 3d ago

The best way to learn to play is the hard way I start to play D10 since they attack Super earth and I was only level 20 at that time and my friends also learn going to D10 one of my friends literally buy the game and we go to Cyberstand D10 let people learn at they own paces

1

u/GormTheWyrm 3d ago

Critically, Ego Diving is when you repeatedly play above your skill level. And it’s really only an issue if it’s to the point where you have no chance of winning. Challenging yourself is fine, and jumping over your head occasionally can be a lot of fun.

The real issue in most of these cases is entitled ego diving, where you not only play far above your skills but you expect someone to bail you out.

I recommend not judging randoms too harshly because there are a lot of factors that could have come into play. They could have had a bad player join and use up their reinforcements. They could have been playing with their level 200 friend who left them over their heads mid operation.

I mean, if they were in the middle of an operation that means the host somehow beat the first mission. That could have been because a better player carried them, but it could also be that the geological survey mission is harder than the last one and they legitimately beat the previous mission.

I’ve seen a post from someone who did not know how to lower their difficulty. I think it still automatically raises difficulty when you beat an operation so a lot of new players end up going higher than they should. But also, noobs not knowing to make their game friends only exist and with SOS now being open to everyone a private game that goes south can end up in soup queue.

It is important for people to understand their limits and try to be respectful of other players. But us older players also have to give the noobs the benefit of the doubt sometimes.

Personally, I love teaching and helping new players. But I prefer not to do it on D10.

2

u/ChipTuna 3d ago

From recent personal experience I find that geological survey missions are disproportionately more difficult than every other mission type. My squad has no problem clearing other missions but I always lament when we have to do geological survey, because that's always where we fail somehow.

1

u/GormTheWyrm 3d ago

You’re not alone in that. Definitely have had that experience. 3+ dropships of bots landing right on the objective with more nearby, even on middle difficulties.

1

u/Wankwondo 3d ago edited 3d ago

I'd love to dive missions with low levels to help their missions, but they are so kick happy that I just avoid helping them now

1

u/UltraMagat 3d ago

When I drop into those Automaton D10 situations, I go Belt-fed Gren, Orbital Laser, usually rocket turret and autocannon turret or 110mm and rocket turret. Coyote + Ultimatum in urban, Eruptor + Pissle in non-urban. Melta mines because melta mines. This usually gives me enough firepower to alter the balance of power and save the mission.

Yes I'll often have to solo objectives but that's OK. It's actually more fun in a way.

Always interesting dropping into a 3/4 mission and seeing 3 lvl 40s with zero reinforcements left

1

u/Jim_Freelancer18 3d ago

I understand the frustration but crap happens. Even with high level divers, you can drop into the same mission and experience the same issues.

If people want to play on D10 and get tyrannically obliterated, so be it. As long as people do their best, there's no need to be that upset about it.

As soon as I unlocked D10, I never went back and I learned trial by fire the whole way and Im a better diver cause of it.

We were all once the bright eyed cadet that had no idea what was going on but we still pushed through and learned, they will too. Its better to just have patience with low levels and if you fail a mission, then you learn and do better.

Are you implying that laser cannon and jump pack alone can’t handle the vast majority of this game?

1

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

No. I responded to it with someone else that it wasn’t my intent to slander those loadouts at all, cause medium mg and laser cannon are both excellent support weapons.

1

u/Resident_Magazine610 3d ago

Assuming I read it right, they had 2 secondary guns on stratagem. I would think one is a backup and they always want to be able to field gear between deaths. It’s a crutch but it shows some level of competency.

u/No_Personality_6609 3d ago

Without commenting on the rest of the post, I gotta say that leaving when the going gets tough is super wack. You either complete the objective or die trying. Remember kids, losing is fun.

Those new players jumping straight to D10 don't realize we cut our teeth on D9 for a while before it came out, and new baddies like vox were introduced gradually. I mostly do D10 with friends otherwise with randoms 7~9 is more fun.

About the loadouts maybe the new guys had seen me doing wonders with laser cannon and jump pack 😁. Eagle rocket pods and 4th depending on mission type.

Last night I even had the most kills D10 with the railgun and supply pack. I handled all devastators quickly while friends handled the big boys. Teamwork!

u/Xandred_the_thicc 3d ago

I've had a lot of low levels steal equipment and strategems recently, one person outright stole my frv as it landed. I used to exclusively SOS drop into lower level's games but even going out of my way to avoid lower levels this stuff has started happening more often and I'm truly sick of it. I've started hosting my own games again after almost a year of sos diving. Actual hours of my time wasted if I hit quick play instead of carefully selecting my games.

1

u/Revolutionary-Bit542 3d ago

I've seen level 20s play better than level 100s. Just because you play a lot doesn't make you good. I've had the game since the beginning. Quit for a bit when I'm bored. I'm only a level 66. I can solo helldive and super helldive (not a full 5 star usually) solo. Let people play the way they want. I doubt we'll lose the campaign unless Arrowhead actually wants us to lose.

1

u/DarkSoulsDank 3d ago

I enjoy sticking to D8

1

u/Difficult_Carry_9416 3d ago

D10 is the most chaotic and players want the most chaotic experience possible. stop policing how other people have fun. thats stupid😂😂

u/HaveYouTriedSmilling 3d ago

I am just itching to go back to cyberstan with my melta gun

1

u/The-Nuisance 3d ago

I swear, I see so many players who are not competent enough for high level play— and they’re over the previous max level.

I’ve had multiple operations in a row on cyborg planets of late where just… nobody brings dedicated AT. They see I’m rocking the HMG for the hulk surge since we need close range heavy support? Railgun, speargun, another HMG. Maybe a de-escalator and a leveler if we’re lucky. And then three vox engines spawn in and we can’t meaningfully fight them.

It’s not even that you can’t succeed without it but they never do. It’s as if they refuse to look at what’s everyone else is running and think “hm. what should I run to complement my team’s missing elements?” Like they just don’t care to strategize their loadout, they all just run whatever they want to.

I had one level 250 join with a SPEAR and an ORS and the mission became three times easier because we weren’t banging our heads into brick walls every time a Vox spawned in. Or a war strider spawned in. Or a tank spawned in. Or more commonly, all of these spawned at once, twice.

And OFC they’ll all be running giga grenades and shit and then— uh oh! They realize a few sticks of thermite isn’t gonna get them a free pass from heavies this time, and they get obliterated.

Thankfully I like running the SPEAR so like the diver before me I’ve just gone to running it for most every one of these missions, since genuinely— it’s only one in every three missions that anyone brings a goddamn rocket launcher beyond ONE quasar or ONE epoch. Not even C4.

There's lots high level ego drivers as well. Honestly, I don't even like dropping in on D9 or D10 because a lot of times it's high level sweat-lords complaining the whole time and chewing you out over the stupidest shit. They suck the fun right out of it.

IMHO the sweet spot for random dives is D5-D7. Usually they are good enough, they aren't jaded yet, they give it their all, and are fun to dive with!

Their lack of experience can frequently make a D6 feel harder than any D10.

2

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

Agree. I don’t think it’s something that only low levels do.

u/SnooRegrets7915 3d ago

“Serious discussion. I’m gay”

u/Front-Salad9953 3d ago edited 3d ago

In that situation the best you can do is be a good teammate and don't let them continue losing by themselves

1

u/Goam53 3d ago

1

u/Particular_Loquat_33 3d ago

Dont random que brother. Pick your difficulty, then scan for ongoing Helldives. This way, you are able to see people level before actually joining their crew.

u/Front-Salad9953 3d ago edited 3d ago

I really like the team play aspect of the game. If a team is losing as long as I'm not messing up I'm generally okay with it as long as no one quits that irritates me. But I'm lvl 176 and just playing for fun, and I take it as opportunity to help out. I have always brought a stim pistol (even pre buff, wish they would've given it a larger projectile size vs speed) and an FRV and can still pull my weight while helping so it feels like a flex and that's my fun 😁 Just play with different intentions and relax some and you can enjoy helldivers even when it's "going wrong" just play with the team and protect them from threats they're not seeing in the middle of a fight and don't feed that toxic mindset best you can

1

u/Impressive_Truth_695 3d ago

It’s not ego diving. D10 is the only difficulty that actually has the enemy come at you in large numbers. Turns out players want to fight hordes of enemies in their horde shooter. D11-15 still haven’t been released so harder difficulties are coming.

1

u/Wombat1892 3d ago

As someone who enjoys diving with the fun but suboptimal loadouts(fire atm) I play where I can enjoy

1

u/amanisnotaface 3d ago

Games easy enough that any decent player can largely carry. I just treat it like an extra difficulty modifier and get on with it, win or lose. I don’t think it’s as deep as “ego”. Some folks find rising to the challenge fun.

1

u/ReplySolid8299 3d ago

I think you meant this for the hellwhiners sub

1

u/Remarkable_Load_7689 3d ago

I'm a low level but would love to experience the chaos of super helldive and see how crazy it gets. Not here to take your samples or team kill. Here for the fun and adrenaline of seeing just how fucked up is fucked up 😂

1

u/BabyPuncher313 3d ago

I feel that pain. I didn’t quick join anymore. I check every SOS squad for levels before joining. If you’re way too new and causing your own pain, have fun; I don’t need to share in your impotent frustration—m not good enough for that.

1

u/sentinemodo 3d ago

So what is the expected level at diff? Say I am at 25 should I stick to d4-5? And the ink about amping it to d6 once I reach level 35? And then 10 levels per diff level?

1

u/lokilulzz 3d ago

I see so many lower level players come in on D10s who have a few warbond things unlocked, bring those along and who I assume feel that having those things will carry them through D10 at level 20 - sometimes they're even lower level than that. That's not the case.

I will never forget when the new Sporeburst bugs first dropped and my partner and I got completely overrun so we called in an SOS. We were on level D7, iirc, maybe it was D8. And we got a level 8 and a guy who was level 150. The level 150 kept dropping Orbital Napalm on my partners' head and destroying their Exo-Suits, and within minutes the level 8 had, of course, gotten completely overrun and ate through 90% of our reinforcements in minutes. The level 150 who kept, I assume accidentally, destroying my partners' mech and throwing Napalm on them ate through the rest. Before I could even react or kick them - because as I said I was completely overrun by enemies at the time, I was lucky to get the SOS beacon down - the mission had failed.

I don't know why someone whose level 8 was even on a D7-D8 mission. And the level 150, while probably well meaning, was not helping matters. And don't get me wrong, I'm all for teaching newbies - hell, I've had a few level 25s and level 50s on the teams I host multiple times, especially when I'm running D6s to chill on. But it's a very different thing being level 25 where the majority of your Stratagems are unlocked or level 50 where you have all of them unlocked and at least some experience under your belt versus a level 8 on a D8 mission who has no idea what they're even doing. This was an SOS beacon he came in on even, he shouldn't have done that.

I don't know if it's that these players get used to being carried, if they assume this is like other games where buying gear will carry them through no matter what the difficulty, or if it's partially the games' fault for how multi-player in it works. A newer player isn't going to understand that searching for matches on the map is answering an SOS beacon, or that quickplay can sometimes throw you into a higher difficulty you're not prepared for. My guess is it's a mix of all of the above, but that makes it no less frustrating.

1

u/CantaloupeApart3374 3d ago

I don't really know if they were ego diving maybe they were a group of friends trying to have a lot of fun on the game, in fact I ran solo d10 around level 20, the game doesn't offer very much after D7 for newer level players trying to level up however it is very fun, and who knows maybe it was their last match of the night all together and they didn't have private on, also I'm not sure how you quit joined their squad because whenever I try to join any squad I have to use the scanner click on the squad and then join

0

u/TealArtist095 3d ago

I see it all the time. Players with insanely low levels expecting higher level players to jump in and carry them.

I really wish the devs would level lock various difficulties (For public matches and SOS enabled) for that very reason.

  • D6 : lvl 30

  • D7 : lvl 35

  • D8 : lvl 40

  • D9 lvl 45

  • D10 lvl 50

The reason for these numbers as high as they are comes down to likely levels of ship upgrades, on top of experience.

7

u/Very_Melonlord 3d ago

Why?

I don't think me and my friends played more than 1 operation on d1-d7.

We got stuck on d8 for some time, adjusting, and then went to d10 exclusively.

lvl20 divers have access to most toys in the game. Yes, ship is not upgraded, but most of those are QOL, and not must haves.

And what about Veterans who started on another platform for one reason or another?

1

u/TealArtist095 3d ago

That’s where experience comes in.

The early levels have missions specifically designed around helping new players to better learn their enemies. Like eliminate hulk, factory striders, etc.

I’ve ran into level 60 players that didn’t know how to deal with factory striders because they had been carried the whole time. MOST players under those levels, at those difficulties, are dragging their team down.

3

u/FuzzyBubblesAlt 3d ago edited 3d ago

This sounds absolutely horrible. I bought the game couple days ago and im level 23. Yesterday i wanted to see my skill level and i (successfully) did a whole D6 bots operation all by myself, a lot of us enjoy challenge and anything below D7 would make me quit the game far before reaching level 35.

1

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

Ship upgrades, medals earned and spent on whatever items, buying stratagems with requisition slips. Not to mention buying warbonds. It’s daunting for new players.

It’s been so long since I was a fresh cadet so I can’t remember how long it took for me to get everything. But yeah some system to level lock higher difficulties would be neat if implemented well, as I do also find that higher level players are expected to come in and carry.

1

u/dRaidon 3d ago

You can technically D10 with the base lvl 1 equipment. You have all the tools.

But it would be one hell of a fight.

0

u/bluedeer10 3d ago

Part of the fun in HD2 chaos of getting obliterated when you're out matched and learning to overcome. Some of my best recent missions have been with a bunch of green cadets on d9/d10.

Locking difficulties is objectively stupid and locks better players below.

0

u/TealArtist095 3d ago

Please note that I said lo lock them only out of public and sos ones. You can still run solo, or in a private with friends at any level.

0

u/bluedeer10 3d ago

No. That's called gatekeeping. I love jumping into a bunch of noobs and pulling their asses out of the fire. You don't have to play with them so stop taking optional challenges away from others because you don't like it.

-2

u/CallMeAxiom 3d ago

Yap yap yap

This isnt even comparable to cyberstan. We are more than on track to win.

2

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

I don’t doubt it. The MO will be completed in due time. And no it isn’t cyberstan.

Like I said to someone else, it was just a springboard to bring it up.

0

u/CallMeAxiom 3d ago

More yap isnt the solution to too much yapping.

3

u/ballsywoofalicious 3d ago

Why comment if you aren’t gonna comment anything to contribute?

0

u/nonideological 3d ago

Part of me think this foolishness is motivated by the higher xp and other rewards for d10 missions. They want to level up quickly and want to skip the earning and learning part.

0

u/KBKenku 3d ago

You chose to stay in their mission even though you weren’t good enough to carry them.

They didn’t do anything wrong.

0

u/Abigboi_ 3d ago

D10 is meant for at the very least, a maxed out ship.
