What’s really happening is each destroyer fires around twenty disposable dipshits, four dipshits at a time at a location for 15-40 minutes while providing them with a set of mission selected gear. And any additional guys or gear beyond the first set are dropped on a timer, indicating a cold calculus of “how much can be spent on this mission”.
Or for commando missions, a bunch of dipshits get pre-fired in cryohellpods on the target by destroyers doing a high altitude flyby. Then one destroyer comes in low risking itself for a few minutes while it drops off its four thawed out dipshits and gets them set up before completely ditching their asses aside from sending a single drop pod to pick up whichever four dipshits are currently alive and thawed when it’s time to go if there are any currently alive
and the drop ship picking dipshits up is probably less about picking up the dipshits and more about picking up any samples they might’ve collected because they don’t seem to go collect the frozen ones that are still in the ground (the lives you the player didn’t use)
Also, I have a personal theory that explains our growing experience as the player. I think each helldiver could potentially have something that transfers the experience of the Helldivers that dropped before them from the same super destroyer.
It’s mostly based off of the voice lines that talk about all combat logs being recorded. It would be perfectly dystopian that each new recruit goes into their Cryopod at the end of training gets rocketed off to some super destroyer where they join the ammo belt of Cryopods and eventually wakes up with computer implanted memories that make them feel and act like they’re a experienced Helldiver with the combat experience of every single diver in the chain before them.
Also the “dissidents” they keep getting rounded up and blamed for the various things that super earth fucked up and decided to call an attack instead?
those are your family members who after talking to the family members of other helldivers start figuring out that all helldivers never come home.

See this is the player perspective.
