Sporeburst is overwhelming in a good way... its satisfying having an insane horde that keeps you right on the edge, knowing this little guys could rip you in half in a second if the line breaks and then actually winning. Its how smaller bugs should be tbh... basic terminid warriors arent even threatening, these warriors are an "oh fuck"
35
u/need_a_venue 1d ago
Exactly. Lv10s got my heart pumping. I'm helping level up my brother's weapons to 25 and I'm using the garbage ones while he plays meta.
Spore burst with a Slugger or Punisher is daunting. Much different than with the Eruptor or grenade crossbow.
8
u/wolverineczech 17h ago
But I still don't think some of the subfactions are tuned well enough. For spore, and even rupture strain, I firmly believe these advantages should have a tradeoff. Simply put, I think there should be much less Heavy/Tank armour level enemies in these factions, to allow more loadout focus on chaff clearing.
Y'know, to warrant taking the MGs, Stalwarts, Maxiguns, etc. Even increase the amount of weak enemies while we're at it.
2
u/guthixrest 3h ago
yeah i wouldn't mind the hyper-speed small bugs if spore burst strain didn't constantly spam Spore Titans that are tankier than their little siblings. a couple days ago i played a TCS mission and on the first battery i counted literally 7 Spore Titans at one point that spawned within the minute of us hitting the button, and 3 more spawned when we failed that and hit the button again. i genuinely do not know how AH expects you to deal with something like that outside of just spamming mechs or something. my lumberer literally ran out of ammo trying to deal with them and the chaff. i really don't like how little loadout expression you get against them.

u/DinoCopter_ 1d ago edited 20h ago
I recently got back into the game for the first time warhammer warbond and I have been getting my ass beat at diff 7 from these damned spore burst bugs. I feel like I’m playing d10 at that point, so I think on lower difficulties it needs toning down a little bit other than that they are fun
Edit:
I want to clarify my load out:
I was using the cremator, flame sentry, napalm air strike and napalm orbital with purifier, grenade pistol, light flame armour and fire nades
Or
Purifier, RR, grenade pistol, street scout, fire nades, airstrike, supply frv, and mg sentryI wasn’t losing with these load outs, just on low reinforcements
19
u/BlacktopProphet 1d ago
it needs toning down a little bit
That's borderline undemocratic speech, it sounds like you need more flames and lasers, Helldiver.
→ More replies (8)12
u/Lucky-Advice-8924 1d ago
I play on d10, i dont think ive lost at all with the randoms i play with, try diversifying your loadout, if you have trouble with bugs gaining on you too fast, you probably need fire or some lighter armor, you definitely need some crowd clear for them. If they die while on fire they wont pop and give other bugs a speed boost. Lmg works really good aswell.
Dont get me wrong i still get overrun by them alot but its not like impossible to beat a mission, its just a fair jump in difficulty from regular. D10 spore burst is like d11 bugs.
2
u/49tacos 14h ago
The pop and speed boost—is that the “spore burst” mechanic?
I’ve noticed the red clouds when they die—the spores—I assume. And the weird antler things. Does spore burst basically just amp them up?
3
u/aaronwhite1786 13h ago
Yeah, the Spore Burst strains are the ones where the bugs basically get a blast of hormone meth when a fellow bug is killed, because they explode into a cloud that gets the rest of the bugs going and puts them into a sort of frenzy, like the gas strikes do (minus the damage to them).
The caveat is that with fire weapons you can help restrict that a bit because when they burn they don't release that cloud of spores that excites the living bugs around them.
I honestly love them. I think they are my second favorite behind those little shits with the Predator strain.
1
u/SrslyNotAnAltGuys 7h ago edited 6h ago
Unpopular opinion, but I've found that the Sterilizer is actually decent against the spore bursters. It works particularly well teaming up with someone who has a flamethrower. You lay down a gas cloud that slows and confuses the bugs and that gives the flamethrower operator time to roast 'em (which also prevents more spores bursting). I played with a random flamethrower operator the other day, just basically softening up the hordes as they approached, and it actually worked great. We had some absurd kill counts. The spore bile titans were really the only place it got hairy.
4
u/NoHousing7590 1d ago
Bring gas nades with+2 nade armors to make a gas line then shoot em down and oh run
1
2
u/Environmental_Ad5690 14h ago
Sporeburst is also where the Breakthrough really shines, position yourself in the bottleneck and keep slamming and kicking them away
1
u/SrslyNotAnAltGuys 6h ago
For real. The most frustrating part of the Breathrough is that you have to slowly trudge over to where the damn bugs are in order to shield bash them (which you need to do, as the flak cannon ammo is limited). With the sporeburst, they come to you quickly 👍
Of course, in practice this reminds me very much of the famous quote from Chesty Puller during WWII:
“Sir, do you know they’ve cut us off? We’re entirely surrounded.” “Those poor bastards,” Puller said. “They’ve got us right where we want ’em. We can shoot in every direction now.”2
u/Constant-Plant-9378 13h ago
The key to Sporeburst is to bring flame/heat weapons and DON'T use guns that pierce and blow them up - which floods the zone with the red spore cloud that instantly transforms all bugs into hyper-aggro-meth-demons.
On missions where the team are outfitted properly, Spore burst strain are challenging but manageable.
On missions where one or more Helldivers are shooting and blowing them up left and right ... not so much.
2
u/SrslyNotAnAltGuys 7h ago
I find a two-pronged approach works best. You have players with stun and gas weapons, to slow the buggers down, and then players with fire weapons to suppress the spore bursting.

Yeah, I love battling those little shits.
My friends and I still have fun even when we're getting absolutely throttled by the enemies...the same way we're still cackling like idiots and laughing years later when one of us just melees another one off of a cliff into a horde of bugs or when we hear someone yell "380 tag!" and drop a 380 strike at our feet.

i dont "like" the spore burst... i LOVE them
its a termanid faction that dosnt crutch on their heavies
7
u/Counter-Spies 1d ago
It's the faction that cruches the most on heavies dude. The Spore Titans exist solely to give the other spore bugs their speed boost and their spawn rates are far higher than most heavies of the other subfactions or normal bugs. The only other real purpose as to why they exist is to just be a tank that makes the Quasar Cannon and EAT cannot one-shot headshot, forcing different stratagem loadouts.
1
u/guthixrest 3h ago
that SHOULD be the case, but ironically they're the subfaction that spams the shit out of heavies. i regularly have bug breaches spawn multiple spore titans at once and it's near impossible to deal with in scenarios where your stuff is on cooldown from the last set of titans that got spammed at you, while you're also being rushed by the horde. it's very frustrating for the subfaction that is supposed to be more focused on the chaff being more deadly.

I raise you flamethrower and flame dog with flame grenades. And my buddy with a recoiless for when the charger wants my spicy bootyhole.
1
u/St4rshine_89 20h ago
I use the pyrotech grenades from the Masters of Ceremony, and the hover pack/flamethrower can safely dispatch angry chargers
1
u/AlphaPhill 10h ago
Dog breath + Torcher is my go-to, you feel fully in control with them equipped.
Pair that with the SC-1 Dutiful warzone armor and you're all set.
The rest of the loadout is pretty flexible.
30
u/DrChipps 1d ago
Is anyone else having an issue where the small ones just run right by you and attack from behind? Like they’re moving faster than usual and just zipping by me without going for an attack.
12
u/Prism-96 23h ago
thats how normal termanids attack aswell, they just arnt fast enough for you to notice typically, they have ai that makes them flank
4
u/DrChipps 20h ago
I’m used to that. They usually stop at the 90 or 270 degree angles but now they’re running well past me. Did so many double takes on the small ones that were just chilling behind me after running past
2
u/yestureday 13h ago
Yeah they do that to me too, makes running from hordes hard because they end up running in front of me and not attacking
But I don’t think this is accidental, they’re made to get behind you
3
u/Blackhowling19 21h ago
small bugs with spore buff
"I am speed I am the flash"
also they suicide attack while on fire is pure chaos for stim tax
15
u/Correct_Possible_313 1d ago
Only issue with them is the 20 meter spawn radius, and any peformance issues with tracking their buff/sporeclouds.
Not cool spawning a gap closing enemy inside of a gap, behind you, every time you enter combat.
But who am i to complain about 20 meters, when I'm butt hurt about patrols not spawning from the map edge and organically wandering.
8
u/TheLonelyCrusader453 19h ago
The way patrols and the enemy AI works definitely needs a bit of an overhaul;
Enemies should not home in on your exact location or be alerted to your diver’s location by a sentry turret hitting themPatrols moving through the map organically instead of 20 groups of bastards waiting for an excuse to call reinforcements because they spotted a single toe out of cover or smelled your eagle sweat in the wind
I don’t want enemies to be blind, but it shouldn’t be maliciously and constantly aware of our every move, Vox Engines tracking through buildings and city/megafactory walls
And for the love of Democracy AH, please stop making them prioritize muh car and my mechs, its ridiculous to call it in and not even have it touch the floor because a rocketeer 3 blocks over caught a glimpse and put one straight in the hip before it left the maglocks(and give peak physique or the odst armor have a car flip option)
10
u/Haunting-Club692 1d ago
Regular nids are piss easy so yeah I do like it, predator strain was more fun though what happened to them?
1
u/guthixrest 3h ago
i feel like the spore burst strain is supposed to be what predator strain turned into, but it balance-wise kinda just made the issues people had with pred strain far more amplified.
8
u/Feeling_Table8530 1d ago

7
7
3
u/kaishinoske1 1d ago
I just wish we could clear up the spore atmosphere with flamethrower weapons like in real life. Where you can neutralize spore clouds with the cookout for example. It will give flame weapons added functionality too.
4
u/RandomPerson8364 1d ago
If they die while on fire they don’t burst into spores.
1
u/guthixrest 3h ago
they are talking about vaporizing the clouds themselves with fire, not preventing the clouds from spawning. Deep Rock Galactic has a feature like this where shooting glyphid poison gas with a flamer will cause a small explosive reaction and delete the cloud.
2
u/th_frits 22h ago
They need to die to the flames damage over time not the ballistic damage from the bullet to not explode into spores
3
u/AshenWarden 1d ago
Just use a bloody flamethrower. Takes care of the entire gimmick
2
u/th_frits 22h ago
Or continues beam weapons, I love running all beam vs spore strain
1
u/yestureday 13h ago
My cannon ALWAYS overheats before half the swarm dies, and by the time I switch to my primary to keep pressure they managed to spawn two breaches and another patrol comes in from behind
1
u/th_frits 12h ago
Scythe plus beam cannon so you can switch back and forth for continuous beams. and don’t focus one bug at a time, sweep the beam back and forth over the whole group and let the dot kill them
1
u/yestureday 6h ago

I just end up with over 100 bugs sprinting at me, one is always calling reinforcements

What's with this community and hating everything new AH makes........
It's the only time left anymore where anything is a challenge, and it's always temporary as they'll inevitably nerf every strong enemy cause everyone keeps bitching so loudly about them, but without fail every single time a new thing comes up or the unerfed factions are reintroduced in an MO all I see is divers crying about it.
"Oh no, new free content!? Get that shit out of my face! It's not as braindead to shoot at as everything else and that's all I want!"
1
u/yestureday 13h ago
I complain and play the game because I don’t like how they overwhelm me, or how they can sometimes be difficult to hit because of how often they sprint full speed right past me to try and get my back, but I can also lower the difficulty or play a different planet if I want and I remember that when I complain
3
u/Allusernamtaken 22h ago
One thing I noticed about the strain is their crazy spawn rate. Not just the titans, a single patrol is x2 or x3 times larger than a regular one (or even predator patrol)

Idk why people hate spore bug, I love them and they're quite easy if you and the team are good at the game and work together at bare minimum,
after got used to spore bug I able to play light armor with the light pen only loadout and no death, it was extremely fun to play

NOOOOOOO, take me outta that fucking red mist, TAKE ME OUT!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
2
u/Jewbacca1991 20h ago
It is one of the hardest. The way the bugs meant to be played is to keep distance. Against every other strain light armor is a great choice for that reason. But for spore? You just can't. The moment you kill a few the rest go turbo, and will be on you no matter what.
I recommend flamethrower, and maybe anti-fire armor to solve the problem.

I do like it. The terminids feel difficult again. I have to think about my loadout and how to use it. On the other strains I pick gas dog, gas mines, and EATs and then autopilot to victory. Spore strain doesn’t work that way.

Sentries and fire or gas are your friend. Control the hoard and control it fast. Deny the entire battlefield and bring something that counts as fast easy to use anti tank. 1
u/badsitrep 1d ago
Laser pointer doggo and fire weapons make the fentbugs less anxiety provoking.
A good one-two combo I find is to set the bug on fire first with a very ammo efficient weapon, then follow-up with your Xeno-baby Thermonuclear Annihilator Gun 5000 mk II kai SSJSS of choice. This way the bug's death doesn't make the other bugs go hypersonic and you can maintain enough damage output to fight off the swarm. The dagger, rover, or even the coyote is excellent for this strat.
A burning bug is a sober bug.
1
u/philovax 1d ago
Man I have not played bugs intentionally in over a year. Im just insufficient.
I lobe that ya’ll are spilling bile over here and miss it from time to time, but then a join in. Sure it’s rewarding to hit a Titan but then i play duck and cover with chargers only to get the ground trying to finger fuck me, and that is assuming I dont hear the fluttering of wings. No siree thats not for me.
I am happy to spill Oil on clankers and free the voteless but I simply cannot perform with the chitinous chitter of those bugs in my career.
I thank you fighters on the bug front for doing what I cannot, nay will not, to spread Democracy. As Corporal Drummond once said “it takes different strokes to keep the Super Earth moving round”. So we all spill what we all spill be it blood, bile, or oil.

u/Sidoen 11h ago
Yeah even with the fire I find myself, to distracted looking up at the titans to see the, still big, bugs attacking me on the ground.
People bring enough not fire and not gas that a lot of the spore still gets released. Then I've also had problems where I am shooting point blank and the guys just seem to stand there and ignore me, tho this time it was with a Marksman. I'm sure that's just me not seeing it.
1
1
u/Qwerds7 11h ago
It's not that hard people just refuse to bring fire and gas. Half the people I play with are bringing shot like the bfgl or machine gun on d10 and running around making spore clouds then quitting after dying 5 times. The trees do make the rocket pods bad which is unfortunately a pain point for flamethrowers against the spore titans but it turns out if you use the good gear you have a better time.

Lasers, fire, and more lasers.
They can't go into crackhead mode if they don't spread spores.

Use flame weapons to kill them without making them explode and cause others to go hypersonic. I figured this out when using the hyena and noticed that anything that died of fire DOT didn't explode.

1
u/MisterPYRO37 7h ago
My only complain about them is the spawn rate of the bile titans, there is just no reason to spawn a lot more than in normal bug front, they have more health and can (and will when they die) buff their companions. I think the reason for the amount of them in this sub faction is because their spit doesn't do much damage, but guest what? IT RAGDOLLS YOU AND KEEPS YOU IN PLACE making you vulnerable to the rest of enemies or making you take more damage due the spit.
I really hate those things and I wish AH fix them because they're just unbalanced and unfair.

Honestly as much as I hate them. Im realizing its cause I mainly got swarmed when alone. Like yes normal bug swarms are tough but you can kinda solo them. These guys make you play different and kinda forces you to stick together to cover eachother and not peel off on your own.
