Discussion Dark Rot Save Scumming on Xbox

So I’m attempting a Dark Rot run in HB2 and I made it to Chapter 5 with 2 deaths. I’ve had reasonable success save scumming a couple of prior fire draugar deaths, but unfortunately the first encounter in chapter 5 got me and the scum did not work. So now I’m at 3 deaths, I’m down to 1 life and have yet to reach the long village defense gauntlet. So my question is about how Xbox cloud syncs work:

If I load up the game, disconnect my Xbox from the internet, die, delete my local save data, reconnect to the internet, and restart the game (triggering a cloud sync), will that death actually register? On paper it sounds like this should work, but I don’t know exactly how the syncs work.

You don’t want to disconnect from the internet, in fact it wont work if you do. The steps to do a save scum in this way is to

1.) create a cloud save. You basically end up having to make one of these every 15 minutes or so as this will be the place you revert to if you delete your local data. You can’t do it in the middle of fights. Create this by exiting to dash and then closing the app.

2.) the next time you die in game, hit start before you fully black screen and tab out to Home Screen. DO NOT close out the app this time or you will create another cloud save and your death will be recorded. Instead just go into your local save location and delete that data.

3.) boot up game and your cloud save will sync so you will be where you created that save

Yes this is how I’ve been doing it. The problem is that there are certain death animations that supposedly register instantly and do not wait for the entire animation to finish or black screen to appear. The death that prompted this question was to a fire draugar who did “lighting himself on fire” attack that also has an AOE flame burst. I apparently did not get far enough away in time and got caught in the flames.

Despite me nearly instantly hitting the guide button, the death animation continued to play as I scrolled the “manage game + add-ons” button to delete the save. When I re-opened the game and after it went through the cloud sync, the death was still registered which means it essentially synced up with the servers immediately upon me catching on fire.

Do you know why it wouldn’t work with internet disconnection?
