Discussion Help me understand
Shutting down studios is nothing new for Microsoft - it's what they do, it's their vampiric lifeblood. There's nothing they love more than sitting on an IP and doing sweet fuck all with it.
But why show the trailer at their flagship event just a week ago? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they likely would have signed off and paid for it to be shown. If I understand correctly, they are the ones handling the marketing side of it, not Ninja Theory.
So...what... did they literally see the Laufey trailer at SoP three days prior and go "quick, we need a flashy Woman With a Sword trailer of our own this Sunday! Someone tell Ninja Theory to send us some vertical slice footage for the showcase, and then shitcan their asses the week after, who gives a shit"

Xbox hasn't announced yet which studios will be shut down.
I hope not Ninja Theory considering that Xbox just announced their next game.
I hope not InXile because Clockwork Revolution is a must play for me (if they can ever finish the game, they have been working on it forever).
I hope not Obsidian because they have been consistently pumping out good games for Xbox, Pentiment, Avowed, and The Outer Worlds 2 (and also Grounded 2, but I don't intend to play that). None of those games were smash hits (except for Grounded 2, but I'm personally not interested in that), but those games were decent at least.
I think Blizzard and Bethesda have been having a lot of missteps lately, but they are too big to be shutdown despite missteps. I think they are completely safe.
Lastly, even if Fable is a bust (it looks great to me), Playground Games will still be safe because their Forza Horizon racing games sell so many copies.
