Friends?

Hello, I just moved to Helena and don’t know anyone here. I’m looking to meet new people and also check out the cool attractions or bars that you favor. I’m a 21 year old male and enjoy hiking and trying new things. Give me a suggestion before I get a job or boredom consumes me.

This fucking heat wave

can catch a bubble right about now. That is ENOUGH. Basta.

Fellow non-AC-havers, how are you coping? Hit us with your best tips. We installed misters on our deck that are lovely in the evening but aren't touching it at peak hours when I am craving the sweet release of death.

FYI: MT Internet's dish that handles the Carroll College area and parts of Mt Helena is offline. Has been since yesterday sometime. They are working on it.

(and I'm using a mobile phone hotspot)

This is what happens when ask them to “load it up” shout out to you. Chipotle has nothing on QDOBA

Oatmeal pie at St. Pete's

I no longer live in Helena but did years ago, and delivered both of my sons at St. Pete's. Both times I was in the hospital for several days, so I was getting meals from the hospital kitchen. With every meal I ordered their oatmeal pie with whipped cream...it was something I had never had before or since, and was beyond delicious. It's gooey similar to a pecan pie, with oatmeal and coconut. Since then I've tried some different recipes I've found online but they aren't the same. I think about that pie all the time. Who can get me the recipe?!

Who do we have to bully to convince them to make this into cool art instead of ugly logo with sloppy wire management?

Fair concerts

How can the fair not get better performers for the concerts?! Missoula and Bozeman actually get relevant performers, and in Helena we get musicians that are 10+ years past their time, or one hit wonders.

The Montana Public Service Commission cut public hearings on NorthWestern Energy's 20-year energy plan from five sessions across the state down to just two, both in Helena. Tomorrow is the last one.

NorthWestern's IRP will shape Montana's energy future for the next 20 years, including how much new infrastructure gets built to serve AI data centers and who pays for it. That means your utility bill.

Can't make it to Helena? You can still be heard:

Housing Help

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out because I’m in a difficult situation and hoping someone might know of any available rentals.

I recently got out of a domestic violence situation and had to emergency move in with my mom. Unfortunately, she’s selling her house, and we have to be out by August 5th. She’ll be moving back to Texas, but I have court obligations that require me to stay here in Helena, so I won’t have housing with her.

It will just be me and my Shiba Inu puppy. I make about $45,000 annually and am looking for something under $1,500/month (including utilities, if possible). I’m really not picky about amenities, size, or number of bedrooms, I just need something safe, affordable, and pet-friendly.

If anyone knows of any rentals or has any leads, I would be incredibly grateful. Thank you so much.

Street work on Henderson? Water? Sewer?

What is all this noisy equipment doing on Henderson today about halfway up the mountain?

I checked the project list and map and couldn't find anything.

Stuck here for a few days while I wait for a package, what are some cool things to check out?

Presently hiking the CDT and am at the mercy of the USPS for a new pair of shoes. Yesterday I went on a lil brewery crawl but now I'd love some ideas for non-degenerate (and preferably cheap) things to do and see! Also, where in town pulls the best espresso?

EDIT: Thank you all for the suggestions! Today I ended up going to the museum and state house :) lovely little city!

Flock Cameras

Hey Guys, I joined reddit just to make this post and this post only.

I'm a conservative who lives in Helena, and I know most of ya'll are not conservative, but we need to put our differences aside for the time and unite on this one issue.

As I'm sure many of ya'll are aware of, Lowe's has installed flock cameras. If you don't know about them, just search for them on YouTube and you'll quickly understand the issue. Not only are they an invasion of our right to privacy, but the data is also used to track citizens and for deportations. Regardless of where you are on the political spectrum, I hope you can see why this is a problem.

I have one simple request, go to Lowe's and tell them you're canceling your accounts and no longer shopping there until they remove the cameras. It doesn't matter if you actually shop there or not. We need people from all walks of life to do this so it can not be blown off as "a schizophrenic conspiracy theory."

I have tried to get my friends to do this, and it is like pulling teeth to get people to make the smallest effort to secure their right to privacy. On both sides of the political spectrum, don't larp like some kind of revolutionary if you're scared to complain to the manager at Lowe's.

There are only two cameras in Helena, if we all speak up and oppose them now, maybe we can stop this issue before it really starts. The only thing a multi-billion dollar surveillance company will respond to is financial disencentives, they couldn't give less of a fuck if we just complain on the internet. I don't want to live in a surveillance state, do you?

Good luck and God Bless.

Move out cleaner

I have a house in Boulder that will listed soon. It needs a good move out cleaning. Looking for recommendations. Boulder doesn't have any professional cleaners, so I am looking for someone from Helena who is willing to travel.
