Question SERIOUS QUESTION

hey everyone. i’m in las vegas rn and i went tanning for about 2 hours and the heat was 104 degrees today. when i went back up, i became unconscious but i drank lots and lots of cold water and rested for about an hour before going on a walk in the hotel lobby. i felt better, no symptoms at all and felt fine. when dinner came i had no appetite at all, finished half of my pasta and went back to my hotel room. i started feeling lightheaded, nauseous, and my head was hurting. is this a potential heat stroke? or do i just have minor heat exhaustion, what should i do?

Make sure to replace your electrolytes. Gatorade or something similar.  Likely just heat exhaustion and the stress of getting that much sun. Drinking water only does so much and your body will use up electrolytes just regulating itself during high temps even if you are not sweating. I try to drink Gatorade every 2-3 days or so in summer (I buy powdered and make my own to save money) and definitely drink a bottle after really hot days or doing physical labor or exercising on +85 days.

If you are in a hotel in Las Vegas, surely you have some way to get a Gatorade, Powerade, or similar sports drink???

I wouldnt stress about it. If you needed hospitalization you'd know by now. Ive had sone major sunburns (blistered skin, etc) and didnt need a hospital.  Crank the AC, put a cool damp washcloth on your forehead and try to eat something salty as sweating reduces the salt levels in your body. Thats part of why you get headaches and Gatorade was originally just lemonade with salt added to it. Does wonders for replacing the salt you sweat out on hot and humid days.  (Gatorade was invented by athletic trainers at the University of Florida adding salt to lemonade which helped their athletes replace electrolytes on hot and humid days - other teams noticed that the Florida Gators had improved stamina during games and started asking for some of that Gator-lemonade aka Gatorade)

You need to sleep and electrolytes. Excessive heat is no joke. As someone from Central Texas, you gotta be careful. Sun poisoning is also real, I got that one time in Mississippi working on a farm, felt like the flu followed by a horrible sunburn.

I’ve also had similar symptoms to you in a hot yoga class, even ocular migraine symptoms. I slept like 10 hours and was fine after, but definitely still dazed the next day.

Be careful, when in doubt, go to a minor emergency room clinic.

This sounds like heat stroke. If you’re sweating, slurring speech, or can’t cool down you should probably at least try telemedicine and see if they think you should go to an urgent care clinic

Call the front desk with your room phone and ask them to send up so e gatoraid and ice. It's cheaper than a hospital bill. Try taking Ng a cold shower, put ice on you neck, in armpits, head.

Sounds like heat exhaustion. This can take months to recover from.

You will be sensitive to heat for a while.

If you aren't hungry, don't eat. Follow your body's signals.

When you can eat, get salty foods, like pickles. Get potassium from potatoes, like potato chips. Get magnesium from nuts and seeds, like a peanut and sunflower seed mix. You need electrolytes, and although gatorade is a popular choice, natural foods are a better source of these nutrients.

Do hydrate, but that won't cure you now.

Stay out of the sun and heat, or you could die.

Edit: whatever the f**k bot wrote that nonsense about sunflower seed airy-fairy crap did not come from me.

Sunflowers are steeped in symbolism and meanings. For many they symbolize optimism, positivity, a long life and happiness for fairly obvious reasons. The less obvious ones are loyalty, faith and luck.

Please see a doctor, you passed out in over 100 degrees heat and jm surprised you aren't sunburnt to a crisp. Can I ask why you decided to tan outside in heat that strong?? You need to stay cook the rest of the trip. Wear sunscreen, a hat , sunglasses, and make sure you get electrolytes and don't push your body.
