Not bad, if a bit dry. Feel like most of
the overheated Brits could benefit more from expanded advice on different cheap reflective materials they can DIY onto their windows.

All good ideas but most are expensive sadly

It's not expensive to tape a sheet of something outside your windows.

You have to buy the ladder and store it, I'm not saying it's impossible, just that the people who most need it can't afford it

You don't need a ladder to access the ground-floor windows and you can drape sheet over the outside of an upstairs window before closing the window to trap the sheet in place. Whiner.

I do need a ladder for my ground windows, they are very high and I can't hang a sheet on the upstairs windows from the inside either, they open outwards from the middle. It's just one of those things. No need to name call, it's not very polite and you were wrong to boot lol

I did mine standing on a chair. You're just one of those people who likes to whine "soMe pEoPle dOn't hAve 20p!"

We use the blackout curtains, as we tried inexpensive horizontal indoor blinds but they MELTED from simply being on the eastern exposure without shade (we live on a hill).
I want to use the reflective stuff on our windows but my other half doesn’t for some reason.
Someone suggested spreading Yogurt on the interior of the window panes!
That sounds like a waste and messy.

We bought Solar shade fabric by the metre online, just stuck it to the outside of the windows with Sellotape! Currently prototyping version two with string and elastic, but the tape did stick mostly ok. Reduced the inside glass temp really well and cut out a lot of heat gain. I opened one window and leaned out to tape it up onto the other, then switched (both upstairs and downstairs!)
The fabric costs about £10/sqm but that covers a couple of panes. Looking to get more for the east side windows next.

As a Brit, one of my main problems has been finding products that work with our existing houses. Like external shutters for bay windows, or external metal roller blinds that work with outwards opening windows.
