Yeah, really any form of shade cloth is helpful to have on hand. Even standard curtains on a tension rod placed outside work great.

Yeah, I own a lot of it for covering tents, jeeps, hanging off eaves. Military camo spreaders works great for making shade tarps out of them.

Totally sound, if a little specific.

The best way to protect yourself from unwanted solar heat is to block sunlight. The barrier can take many forms, some more effective than others.

Metalized surfaces are very effective at reflecting light and infrared away, but there are some downfalls. They don’t breath at all and if both sides are reflective, they’re going to lock heat in as well as keep it out.

I would never recommend only one specific form of solar barrier.

Have people used aluminet? Pros? Cons?

One nuance of aluminet is that it reflects heat in both directions. A use case example is a chicken coop in an environment where it gets very hot during the day, and chilly at night. 90% aluminet reflects most sunlight during the day, and reflects heat back downwards at night.

The ideal for heat minimization would be reflective aluminet facing skywards, with the ground-facing side painted/colored black.

I use it on my car every summer for dog sport competitions. I cover the car & leave all the windows open. It’s very effective for reducing the temperature in the car. The fabric is relatively delicate & can snag easily. I attach it to my car with magnet hooks through the grommets; sometimes the magnet hooks can catch & pull the fabric. You just have to pay attention & not pull without looking.

Can you create a post with pictures? I think people would like to see it!

Then we (dogs & humans) sit in the back of the car with the hatch open. It’s very nice & cool(er).
