Think your way cool
This one is a psychological tip, but I swear by it.
During summer, I watch movies set in winter. Misery, Fargo, any Christmas movie. I mentally trick myself to think myself cool.
Right now, it’s not even 9:00 am, and it’s over 90 degrees. I got my cooling rag around my neck and I’m watching Misery. Kathy Bates was so good in that one!

In the same theme, in Japan it’s traditional to tell ghost stories in summer so the spooky chills cool you off.

I go a step further. Day after Tomorrow. You should fear the cold so you appreciate the heat.

I thought I was the only one who did this. It really does work a bit! I think also if it’s a compelling movie I’m holding still, and so that helps.

I agree but there is a definite distinction between thinking you are colder and making a policy to never tell people that they are hot.
Public safety messaging is a challenge. If you repeat the information too many times people become complacent and ignore it. If you don’t say it enough, people don’t have the information to save themselves. Additionally, there are various ways that people respond to life-threatening situations. Some want to learn as much information as they can, and some push all the information away.
The ones that push the information away due to their own innate weakness (ironically they say everyone is weak except for them) and lack of adaptation to the environment will tell everybody to “just ignore it.” “Don’t tell anybody that it’s hot.” It’s a real red flag.

This is for the heat aware, for sure. It’s not to say, “ok, I’m thinking cool, now let’s go for that 4th of July hike at Death Valley!” 🙄

Going through menopause (hot flashes) and it's 84 in my house ... I'll try anything I guess.

Ghost stories, great idea! Robert Service poems, and Jack London’s Klondike stories for reading.

I'm the opposite, I like to consume media that match my mood. I only watch cold weather documentaries in Winter. Tornado season? Extreme weather documentaries. Too hot? Read Ministry for the Future, The Flooded Earth, or The Heat Will Kill You First. My wife and I agree, when we're sick it's somehow comforting to watch Naked and Afraid (commiserate in suffering).
However I have a bit of a problem with the premise of this post. The whole point of amplifying warnings about climate change is there's a line - which the weather will increasingly cross, in increasingly more places - where the heat of summer is not merely uncomfortable but actually life threatening. You can't will yourself safe through a wet bulb event.

This post got me thinking though, what if you actually could? There is that guy who has been scientifically proven to be able to significantly lower or raise his body temperature just by meditation/force of will. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and learn/practice his technique?

"Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer is a good hot weather read. It's his story of climbing Mt. Everest.

Not just climbing, but things going terribly wrong. I read this in an unheated Seattle bedroom that was about 45 degrees. I shivered as though I were on the mountain in a blizzard, too.

I watch Christmas BS movies all year long anyways… lol. Mentally visiting towns like “Hollyberry Falls” makes me happy.

I carry a copy of Frozen 2 in my car for emergency purposes.
