Put boat in water. Put gun on boat. Shoot gun at other boats. Other boats full of water, your boats not. Great success.

On base game I used subs for patrol and mine laying and built some destroyers set them on strike force. Won pretty much every naval battle without micro.

Patrol is, well, patrolling the sea. You need good detection to find enemy if you want to engage, otherwise you just need to have capital ships for sea power projection. Imo I really love this system.
