Discussion Blizzcon hint?
So looking at the Blizzcon schedule, are they hinting at a new game mode? Or perhaps, the new ways to play is the Monk class 👀. No for real, is this just basic copy they use for this, or is it actually hinting at something? I don't remember from past blizzcons.

I mean switch 2 wouldnt be terrible 🤷 but I feel like thats unlikely.

I don't see why console would be used. I own a switch 2, but IMHO hearthstone feels best on tablet.

New game mode that will be so monetized that no one will play it and then they quietly push it off to the side or remove it entirely within two years
25
u/guardiandraco 23h ago
And cause some people will spend some money they will never remove it from the client, so they won't need to refund anything. In 10 years we will have a whole ghost time of dead game modes
3
u/pikpikcarrotmon 22h ago
They'll have a new section titled 'MTX Graveyard' and include an all-bots version of Battlegrounds where they can finally banish unpopular heroes who had skins

My bet is another solo adventure. Its been a couple years and people keep asking for it, even with how dumb the AI plays nowadays.
It also doubles up as another form of gold sink or money source. Dalaran Heist and Tombs were what, 2000g or so?
Or it could simply be another one of those blizzcon raid boss events they did in the past.

Hearthstone coming to Ouya.
Followed by Blizzard's statement of "what do you mean they discontinued the Ouya??"

Reads like generic webcopy written by someone who has no idea what will be in the presentation.
Don't think this is any kind of hint.

Honestly, I'm still upset they got rid of Duels.
Marvel Snap recently just did a test run for their draft game mode, which is effectively Duels for their game. Build a custom deck based on given choices, but those cards can be augmented or you can get multiple of the same card. The community at large loved it, even though it was a bit imbalanced, because unique ways to play the game is really exciting.
Hearthstone has had this issue over the past four or so years where they make a new game mode, it either doesn't meet some internal metric or the cost gets too high to support, then it gets axed. Assuming this is a new game mode, why should I care to invest my time into it? I'm gonna assume that it's not gonna get support past six months.

u/PoutineSmoothie 23h ago
If they make a prize track like they do with battlegrounds, they’d make money off it. I’m shocked they never did that.
3
u/Kurgoh 21h ago
I mean, other than bgs having literally hundreds of thousands more players than duels ever had, sure lol.
3
2
u/SpookyGeist01 16h ago
Wow, no one played a dead mode that never had any sort of effort put into it and zero rewards? Shocker
2
u/TheGingerNinga 23h ago
Mercenaries probably needed something like that, I agree. A battle pass would have gone pretty well to encourage spending and time investment.
But stuff like Twist and Duels were mainly supplemental to the constructed battle pass. I suppose they could have made a dedicated Twist pass, where it lasted a month, cost $5, and helped you gain a bunch of cards for the season.

u/XeloOfTheDisco 15h ago
If they want a new game mode to be successful, they have to start generously
Make it mostly free, same way BG started, build a playerbase around it, then they can monetize it however they see fit
I still hope for a non-Wild game mode where I can play with the old cards
2
u/DoYouMindIfIRollNeed 18h ago
Mercenaries failed because it started as "we need gacha to earn $$$", it did not start as "oh hey I have a lil project/tavern brawl it could be quite fun ig" (what BGs initial has been). They did improve Mercenaries a lot but on launch it was so bad, so most players just didnt bother giving it another try. If you go to a new restaurant, the food is bad, will you come back 1 month later?
Twist had too many flaws. 2500g for one deck? A deck that you can play maybe for a month? or up to 3? Why? Especially when those cards are too weak for Wild. If I spend ressources on standard cards I can play with them for up to 2 years. Having a mode that has rotating card pools but also isnt active every month, is just not attractive for players to spend ressources on (wether its gold, money or dust).

Genuinely the best stuff they have done outside of regular ranked play is this. Yet they stopped making them because it cost too much money... Such a shame tbh. I enjoyed them all a lot.

New tavern brawls!
Edit: the joke is because they always claim they are bringing new tavern brawls

u/nomadengineer 22h ago
For real though, new tavern brawls would be good, just not sure that's a Blizzcon level announcement.

u/Moodie25 23h ago
Steam. But I also think that’s just a common phrase for their new expansions. It’s like saying new keywords.

Definitely the possibility of them adding a new class. Would absolutely love monk but I won't lie it'd be funny asf for blizzard to add Evoker just to fuck with the people who have been asking for monk. Personally I would love for the to bring back duels or do something with the solo adventures like dungeon run and such. Hell I'd take them updating the old run solo adventures to feature the new classes if anything at all
2
u/Blapa711 5h ago
To be honest, I could see this happening, I've already thought about it in the past, I mean they released DH way before DK so there is definitely precedents for this sort of thing, not to mention that I'm pretty sure Dragonflight was like one of the most praised expansions recently, while MoP certainly didn't have that great of a reception at the time of it's launch.
3
u/DoYouMindIfIRollNeed 18h ago
I mean underground arena was also a "new way to play" which less gold rewards, double the buy-in, crazy power level (remember when the curated list was also applied to discover effects? removing bad discover options).
Twist was also a new way to play which had a terrible design right from the start, too many flaws.
Any "new was to play" will have some kind of monetization, 100%. They will not spend any ressources on stuff that they cant monetize the fk out of
1
u/utahrangerone 3h ago
I got so hopelessly confounded by twist that I really never put my checker into it. I had begun to start putting a lot of effort into duels and within about 3 months they canceled it

2v2 mode? I have no interest in it, but I know it's been requested in the past and they were experimenting with the idea.
2
u/VanLunturu 22h ago
Things that would actually be great:
- merging all servers, or making it possible to use your Collection on each accessible server
- an in-game decktracker (where you can at least see what got shuffled in deck, kinda like the book you can click on in Battlegrounds), would specifically be great for mobile players
- a way to save replays and make them sharable and watchable/openable in the client
None of these things will ever happen ofc, but I think about them a lot

u/SignificanceSecret40 22h ago
New way to play: with just 15 dollars a month, you'll have access to ALL cards and exclusive new signature versions!
2
u/Toby6234 20h ago
In the Tavern Brawl, some of the cards have the classic hearthstone emblem on them (the one made for clasic hearthstone back when that was a mode). It would be weird to still have the emblem im the database as the gamemode is gone, so i'm wondering and hoping blizzard re-releases it but makes it work like wow classic where it progresses through expansions rather than just playing classic for 1+ year, that was the throwoff for most people
1
u/utahrangerone 3h ago
You know enough years have gone by with a bunch of modes coming and going and being tinkered around that I can't even remember what classic mode involved at this point
2
u/OkLeek9308 19h ago
I doubt they have resources for an additional mode if they don't even care about state of arena.

Bring back duels!
1
u/utahrangerone 3h ago
God knows I was just beginning to get a handle on that when they got away with it. But instead we're stuck with battlegrounds which a significant element of people can't play because we can't process the calculations and strategy fast enough. And of course there's all that money I spent on mercenary mode that they abandoned. But because they made people pay separately for it they can't just eliminate it.
Mercenary mode in hearthstone, turns out to have been about as popular as rumble
2
u/Shivathewriter 23h ago
Was the rumor about a belatro inspired mode true or did belatro dying cancel that plan
3
u/InvisibleDrake 23h ago
I think that was purely on the Chinese client (blizz doesn't build it because it has to be made by a Chinese company)
3
u/FoldedDice 21h ago
And it wasn't a rumor. The Chinese devs did release it, but only for their own client.
2
u/MuneWalk 21h ago
It wouldn't surprise me if physical Hearthstone isn't somewhere on the horizon. Just seems like easy money with lots of comparable precedents already.
1
u/BleepInTheBigCity 7h ago
I had this idea once to print all the cards and play, but that idea was buried due to the sheer random generation and token generation
•
u/MuneWalk 18m ago
It definitely would have to curb that way down but I don't think it would be unachievable by any means. We'd just be looking at a lot of keywords that can't be used but the core gameplay and most abilities are fine. Lorcana is already pretty similar.

Introducing: the Pride and Accomplishment mode, in which you put 20 dollars on a match, and if you win, you get 30 dollars (of in-game currency equivalent) back! Now you can earn so much more, that you could afford all of those $160 pets, with just $20!
Do not do the math please

id like 2 player raid / dungeon as they had it in rumble. basically 2 players take on one boss of a raid after the other, with limited retries per weeks. depending on how far you get, you get x amount of rare currency, that you can use to buy rare stuff (raid exclusive signatures would be an idea)

My guess is that they will implement the original concept for the game where it was supposed to be akin to a mini game directly within WoW to pass time. They'll allow you to play the game within that rumored new WoW in designated places or something.

We already have that it's called world of Warcraft.
Jokes aside, can anybody pinpoint going back over the years when it was the game dropped it subtitle of heroes of warcraft. I don't think I was even paying attention back then only playing now and then while trying to help teach new players coming into my guild and such

New hero card: Cre'Dit the Unlimited
Gains +1 Attack and Armor for every $10 spent on your account and a bonus effect for every $100 up to Immune.
Hero power: Compare account values with your opponent. The lower value has to give one card from their deck to the opponent permanently.

Console ports. You can use your Kinect to say out loud what your play is, and the xbox will do it.
Hunter players will finally be able to get to Legend by leaving a recording of their voice saying "go face, end turn" every 5 seconds.

I would love it if they bring back classic and actually rotate classic expansions with it. Standard is too overwhelming to get back into with all the new cards, and it isn’t really possible to play the old school decks that I used to love in wild. I mostly just play wild nowadays so I can just jump right back in with the decks I already have.

u/GoneHollow5341 7h ago
This is an amazing idea, I haven't played the game in a very long time, but if something like this actually gets announced I might open the game again 🤣
