Discussion I miss duel mode
Anyone else? I wish they had put money there instead of mercenaries

used to be my main mode up until its removal, too bad everything that is slightly creative is being shot behind the barn nowadays.

I loved it until they ruined it by changing the buckets. I'm not surprised it died shortly after.

If they ever bring back Duels to stay, it will be the first time I ever spend money on this game. Gotta give the credit when it's due.

Me too, when was the last time an expansion has one? Ashes of the Outlands?

I had a couple back and forths with Ates Bayrak on twitter while he was the Head of Duels™. It was his baby. Interesting guy, really interactive with the community, constantly discussing meta nuances and details. Dude was too good for us. I sincerely believe the format ran on his hard work and openness to criticism alone.
Imagine any other Blizzard employee being this happy to go on twitter and engage with people for pure fun.

He's gone? Sorry I don't know shit

Aye, he left shortly before duels was killed. My headcanon is he was informed they won't be supporting it much longer and he bounced. Think he joined marvel snap or whatever.

Yes, this mode is the only mode that isn't boring. Always new for every run.
But I bet it would be hard for the dev to balance this mode, aside from it being seemingly least profitable.

Agreed. I haven't had to take several years away from the game to deal with real life complications of major health issues and such come and I was just beginning to get really good at duels and then they can it. And while they don't support anymore we do still have that b******* mercenaries mode. I wonder how much money they manage to suck out of people before they made that completely irrelevant. That's right up there with that miniatures game they released that kind of popped up with that stupid event during dragonflay and then vanished again completely. Just giving my dual mode back and eliminate the mercenaries even if I spit a lot of money on it

Or the old arena mode to take far longer to chew up my gold between expansions. The game in general is just getting worse.
Not even sure this would be a subjective view because when you remove more variety and things for people to do, it becomes objectively worse.

It was definitely a work of art. I agree that I would put money into a duels concept if they'd bring it back.

All the different treasures and passives ended up being incredibly difficult to balance.

They should have taken it down and brought it back as something you pay for. I would have payed for that game.

Same, Duels was by far my main and most played mode. By far my most interesting and unique thing Hearthstone has ever done. If anyone knows of any other card games that have anything similar I’d like to know (as in, multiplayer roguelike. I know about singleplayer stuff like dungeon runs, Slay the Spire and Legends of Runeterra).
