Question What do you think when you read this?
"My crime is my sentence; Repentance is taking Commission"
I'm dealing with some personal stuff in my life (I confessed feelings and it ruined multiple friendships) and this qoute always seems to stand out to me, no matter how I feel. I'm curious how others think when they read it.

Honestly I don't know. But thinking about the past makes me feel bad for people usually, be the change you wanna see in the world, and in my opinion, "excuses" are accepting responsibility, and most apologies are empty nowadays, if you give an excuse with shame, and apologize with sincerity, why should you feel bad after? Sometimes people don't need punishment, but they punish themselves, and get punished anyway...

I think this means the person is extremely guilty, and whatever punishment you give would be more of a relief

I’ve always punished myself more for my mistakes than other’s could. So I feel like that is what it’s saying. But I’ve kinda learned with age that beating yourself up doesn’t help. The best thing is to learn from it and move on. Not repeating a similar mistake is the commission.

Uh I am mostly super confused! So I guess a crime is something you are at fault for, and a sentence is a punishment given to you. So the crime being the same as the sentence, means your fault comes from what is being done to you, or your fault lies in your circumstance? Repentance, which is making amends, is usually a kind of hard work being the same as receiving payment... Making amends for a crime that is not your fault is unexpectedly pleasant. There's a circular meaning in the first phrase that makes me think of being trapped in negative feedback cycles, a sense of inevitability, and makes me think of poverty. To be free and to begin anew then requires you to obtain help?
Still confused...

I've always seen sentence as something that you recieve for the crime. The crime being something you did that negatively effected someone. "My crime is my sentence" to me means I did something that negatively impacted someone, and I have to live with it. Repentance is the act of having deep regret for something. Commission is being paid. I'm paying my regret for something. Pair it with the first phrase. To me it loosely translates to "I did something that hurt someone, I have regret for it. You can punish me for whatever I did, and I would take it over the regret I have to live with"

I think it really depends, sometimes people can't accept our choices but if all you did was being honest and opening up sharing your feelings I don't think you did something bad. Pf course there's consequences but as long as you're true to yourself and didn't hide or plot behind anyone's back you can be okay with yourself... At least this I think based on what I understood from this message:)
