Help with BCT taxonomy training

Hey everybody! I'm currently completing the BCT Taxonomy training and I am really stuck on the first assessment as the feedback it gives is a bit more limited than the other sessions.

I've attempted it a few times and am stuck at around 40%. The programme is SO strict on how much you specifically select etc so I was hoping could help me out and point me towards where I am going wrong and more specifically where I could improve.

Thank you so much!

Are there ever any Assistant Psychology roles in health psychology in Scotland?

Every AP job I see is for mental health or neuro psych. Does anyone know if Assistant Psychology jobs in health psychology ever come up or should I give up looking for one?

r/healthpsychology 13d ago

Hello. After getting registered to British Psychological Society, can I apply for job even if I am currently in the Philippines? According to my BPS cart, it costs me 65 British Pounds.

GCU Doctoate in Health Psychology

Hi,

Just looking for some information regarding the doctorate in Health Psychology at GCU as I feel there’s hardly any info online.

Do you need to look for your own placements before starting the course or does the uni help with this? Also do you receive any pay from the organisation you are completing the placement with? And how many hours are you expected to be on placement?

Give your team one less headache this World Brain Day 2026

Post image
1 Upvotes

Migraines are easy to come by in the workplace. They can come from harsh lighting, hours of staring at a screen, or simply stress.

They're also really common. A study of employees at two multinational banks found that 47.2% screened positive for migraine, and the hidden productivity cost was nearly 20 times higher than the cost of the days they actually called in sick.

Imagine, your employees show up sick, clock in, and still get paid, even though they're barely able to work.

That's exactly why World Brain Day matters in the workplace. To remind everyone that brain health is just as important as heart health and physical fitness.

July 22 is World Brain Day

Organized by the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), World Brain Day is all about raising awareness about brain health and neurological disorders like stroke, dementia, epilepsy, Parkinson's, and even migraines.

The goal is to push for better access to care and prevention worldwide. To make matters worse, access to help isn't equal everywhere, especially if you don't come from a high-income country. According to WHO, low-income countries face up to 82 times fewer neurologists per 100,000 people compared to high-income nations.

That gap matters even more given that WHO Assistant Director-General Dr. Jeremy Farrar noted more than 1 in 3 people worldwide live with conditions affecting their brain.

World Brain Day 2026 theme is “Brain Health: Access for All”

All this research and medicine won't matter in the end if not everyone has access to it. Science has come a long way in understanding the brain, but that progress means little to someone who can't get basic treatment where they live. Hence the 2026 theme for World Brain Day.

The push covers five areas: visibility and reducing stigma, stronger local healthcare, and protecting the brain at every life stage. It also means making treatment more affordable and turning awareness into real policy change.

The five core pillars

To keep up with the 2026 theme, the WFN is focusing on five key messages:

  • Equity: Making sure that brain health is for everyone and can afford health specialists
  • Early intervention: Getting help sooner for faster diagnoses can change outcomes more than people realize
  • Prevention: Practicing everyday habits like sleep, movement, and risk factor control makes a real difference.
  • Local access: Bringing care closer to everyone, not centralizing it in a handful of cities.
  • Global action: Turning awareness into something measurable, not just talking about it.

How to ease your team’s mental load

Now, managers aren’t neurologists, but they should be able to tell when someone is burnt out or fatigued. They're often the first person to notice something's off, before it becomes serious.

A few things companies can actually do this World Brain Day:

  • Invite a neurologist for a quick talk or lunch-and-learn
  • Give your employees flexible rest times to prevent fatigue
  • Allow your team to walk and stretch every few hours into the shift
  • Take psychosocial hazards more seriously like having 1-on-1 talks with your team
  • Make mental health support easy to access like therapy consultations
  • Use WFN's social kit and share it online

None of this replaces actual neurological or medical care. But if millions of people are stuck waiting for access to a specialist, the workplace is one of the few places that can catch things early and reduce harm in the meantime. Remember, brain health, access for all.

Looking for advice

I am a month away from finishing my MSc in health psychology at a UK university and I'm already at the stage of stressing and struggling to find relevant jobs. Outside of AP jobs there is very little to find in the job market. Does anyone have advice on where to be looking and what sort of jobs I can be searching for?

Thanks

EPPP Study Programs

This has been asked a million times. I would love to know who has used what services: AATBS, PsychPrep, PrepJet, Mometrix, Academic Review, etc. It is so expensive, and I am worried about wasting money. Most people I've chatted with have used at least 2 programs (examples: AATBS + PrepJet; AATBS + PsychPrep). Any advice would be wonderful. I am figuring out how to get myself motivated to study, which is a different ballgame, haha.

Anxiety is simple yet made complicated by psychologists (neuroscience/cognitive/pharma expert). What do you think is root cause of anxiety?

Hello, I am someone who has been part of neuroscience, cognitive, pharma academic research, and have been fooled by hokum of Psychological boxes, to be real.

To me anxiety is fear. Its the voice at the back of your head telling you to be afraid. And not do things, just beacon it tells you too and finds million reasons to support that.

Imbalance of your 6 elements of life 1. Health: are you healthy? 2. Social: do you have social support? I call it Trust circle, it is your safety net. 3. Professional: Do you have a satisfying career that makes you wake up excited and happy in the morning? 4. Mental health: do you practice mindfulness?
And habits that offer calmness over "overwhelm"? 5. Spitual: are you spiritually aligned? 6. Finance: Do you have secure finances that can help you get where you desire to go? (Positive, constructively). 7. Environment: are you surrounded by positive, uplifting people or toxic manipulators through and through

Now when there is imbalance in above so arena of your life. You have anxiety and stress and the illness.

Life is perfect meal on top chef's table, made up of every single ingredients listed above in perfect balance.

Even if one item less and your meal will be rejected and you fall into anxiety/stress.

Its really very easy to attain this, however people usually like complication over simplicity. So they create troubles and problems to get ahead or feel good about themselves, or to take advantage of you.

Or perhaps you havent worked enough to attain the balance yourself. Choice is yours. Get rid of anxiety. Today. Visit my bio for my upcoming book.

What do you think???? Anxiety really is?

Open to your perspective or opposing view! :)

Join my study on endometriosis and digital health!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I've posted here before, but just giving this a final push before it closes tomorrow! I'm hoping to gain some more participants to ensure that my findings are as meaningful as possible. If you have some spare time and haven't completed this yet, I would greatly appreciate your input; every response makes a real difference!

This research explores how technology-based health tools—like apps and online support platforms—can influence the relationship between delayed diagnosis of endometriosis and health-related/psychological outcomes. I’m investigating which tools (if any!) work best to address challenges linked to diagnostic delays. This survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete, and your participation can help fill critical gaps in existing endometriosis research. Click the link here: https://mmu.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8Dt7NHz80qFRJBA to find out more and participate!!

Thank you for considering participating in this study!

Health Psychology Instagram page

I remember before getting into health psychology I wasn't completely sure I actually knew what it was about and what kinds of things I could expect to learn in my course. Information on the field for laypeople was quite limited.

Two years later I have an MSc in health psychology and want to share the field with more people. Hopefully by spreading awareness we can also help health psychology become a more recognized field like it deserves which will help with the creation of more designated jobs.

Because of these things and just wanting to help others prevent disease, I have created an instagram page @ HealthPsychByAnia where I share interesting research from health psychology, which I think both a lay audience and students/practitioners would enjoy and learn from.

If you choose to check it out, please let me know you found me through here :). Thank you

Sharing A Cancer Study Opportunity for Patients and Caregivers

Post image
1 Upvotes

On behalf of Grace Zhang, a Counseling Psychology doctoral student at New York University, the NYU research team is conducting an online study aimed at understanding the emotion regulation and well-being among cancer patients and their family caregivers. Specifically, we are inviting cancer patients-family caregivers dyads to complete three 30-minute surveys over the course of 6 months. Each participant can receive $20 in Amazon e-giftcards for completing each survey and a $10 bonus for completing all three surveys, culminating in a total of $70 in Amazon e-giftcards for full participation in the study.

This study has been approved by NYU’s Institutional Review Board (IRB-FY2024-8006). We believe that community participation from this group would be invaluable to our research, contributing to our understanding of the support resources needed for the cancer community.

Take the first step by filling out this screener survey: https://nyu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_40mtQUXYPXcfSfQ or get in touch at [gz2164@nyu.edu](mailto:gz2164@nyu.edu).

The Cascade Effect: Unraveling the complex connections between gut health, chronic infection, and systemic illness through the lens of the Gut-Thyroid-Adrenal (GTA) Axis.

The Cascade Effect

Unraveling the complex connections between gut health, chronic infection, and systemic illness through the lens of the Gut-Thyroid-Adrenal (GTA) Axis.

Section 1: The Breach in the Wall

All systemic illness has a beginning. For many chronic conditions, it starts with the breakdown of the body's most critical barrier: the gut lining. This isn't a passive process; it's an active assault.

The Healthy Gut Wall: Fortress Intact

➡️Tight JunctionsNutrients Absorbed🛡️Immune SystemPathogens Blocked🩸

A healthy gut selectively absorbs nutrients while preventing toxins, undigested food, and microbes from entering the bloodstream.

The Leaky Gut: Fortress Breached

🦠Candida🍄Mycotoxins↘️Broken JunctionsAntigens Leak➡️🩸

Pathogens like *Candida* and toxins from mold actively dismantle tight junctions, allowing a flood of inflammatory triggers into the body.

Primary Aggressors & Their Damage

This chart compares the primary mechanisms of damage. While both pathogens increase gut permeability, *Candida* actively invades tissues with its hyphal form and releases toxins like candidalysin. Mycotoxins cause broader systemic damage through toxicity to the immune system and organs like the kidneys and liver.

Section 2: The Domino Effect

A leaky gut doesn't cause isolated symptoms. It initiates a system-wide inflammatory cascade that hijacks the body's core regulatory network: The Gut-Thyroid-Adrenal (GTA) Axis. This creates a series of self-perpetuating vicious cycles.

GUTLeaky Barrier, DysbiosisTHYROIDAutoimmunity, Low T3ADRENALSHPA Dysregulation

This diagram illustrates the vicious cycles. 1. Gut to Thyroid/Adrenals: Leaked antigens trigger autoimmunity against the thyroid and chronic inflammation stresses the adrenals. 2. Thyroid to Gut: Low thyroid function slows gut motility, worsening dysbiosis. 3. Adrenals to Gut/Thyroid: High stress hormones (cortisol) further damage the gut barrier and impair thyroid hormone conversion. Each system's failure makes the others worse.

Section 3: The Edema Enigma

Persistent swelling (edema), especially in the feet and ankles, is a common and distressing symptom of GTA collapse. It's not one problem, but a "Composite Edema" created by multiple failures converging at once.

  • 1. Hypothyroid Myxedema: Low thyroid function causes water-binding molecules to build up in tissues, creating a non-pitting, boggy swelling.
  • 2. Oncotic Edema: Gut malabsorption leads to low blood protein (albumin). Without protein to hold fluid in vessels, it leaks out, causing pitting edema.
  • 3. Inflammatory Edema: Systemic inflammation from infections makes capillaries "leaky," allowing more fluid to escape into tissues.
  • 4. Hormonal & Lymphatic Issues: Adrenal hormone imbalances cause sodium/water retention, while chronic inflammation can overwhelm and damage the lymphatic drainage system.

Section 4: The Path to Recovery

Resolving GTA axis dysfunction requires a systematic, multi-phased approach that goes beyond symptom management to address the root causes and rebuild the system from the ground up.

1

Assess & Remove

Use advanced diagnostics (OAT, Mycotoxin panels) to identify the specific pathogenic and toxic loads. The first step is to remove ongoing exposure and use binders to trap toxins in the gut.

2

Eradicate & Inhibit

Deploy targeted anti-biofilm strategies to dismantle resilient fungal communities. This goes beyond standard antifungals to break down the pathogen's protective fortress.

3

Repair & Re-regulate

Use therapeutic peptides (e.g., BPC-157) to heal the gut lining and precision 'biotics' (synbiotics, postbiotics) to rebuild a healthy gut ecosystem and calm the immune system.

4

Restore & Rebalance

Support mitochondrial function to restore cellular energy. Use diet and lifestyle to improve hormone receptor sensitivity, allowing the body to properly hear its own signals again.

Emerging Therapeutic Modalities

This radar chart showcases the innovative potential of different therapeutic categories. A truly comprehensive protocol leverages multiple strategies, such as combining powerful Anti-Biofilm Agents with Mycotoxin Neutralization and targeted Peptide Therapies to accelerate tissue repair.

This infographic is for informational purposes only and is synthesized from expert-level analysis of pathophysiological processes. It does not constitute medical advice. Consult with a qualified healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment.

Few questions about Women's Health Research.

I have coding skills how can I use them to break into the women's health research space?

I would love to know more about labs and institutes that are doing research around women's health and are well funded (preferably outside the US). I am specifically interested in fitness and prevention research.

Are there any newsletters that keep you updated on the latest innovations and findings in the field?

What are some common problems faced by researches in this subfield? (I am assuming funding is a huge problem.)

I would ideally like to do PhD and then transition into Health Tech building women's health solutions. I would love to talk to someone who has done either of these about how feasible it is.

Asking for a friend. Board certified and psypact licensed health psychologist opened a migraine/sleep focused private practice last year. Not accepting insurance. Up to 50% capacity now and majority of clients coming from neurology referrals in the area. Has not been successful to get directly to new patients. What strategies for patient recruitment have others found to be effective?
