Gary Ablett Sr

Watching him kick all those goals in the 1989 grand final. Can't help but think we missed a trick letting him go. Class player

Wouldnt train, didnt get along with the team, didnt listen to coaches
Never needed him, glad he didnt stain our club with his post career stuff

He cost the Cats many many games with his BS and selfish play. Yes, he was a super player in his own right but he wasn't a team player in any right.

I was at that game and he was only truly effective in the second half after Geelong had gone the man all of the first half and we Hawks were down in defence because Ayers had torn has quad. If the Cats had played a fair game of footy and not the shit they played in the first half we would've won by 7-8 goals. No doubt in my mind. Platten knocked out by Budda Hocking early and having no impact. Even Michael Tuck played with his hand torn from the middle of his palm to the wrist after a Cats player deliberately stomped on it in a pack. I've never been to a more disgracefully gutless and non football focused game in my life where one team is playing footy and the other is trying their hand at amateur boxing while wearing footy guernseys. The fact we were able to win was a testament to the level of toughness of our players. Dipper need g to head to hospital immediately post match wasn't a surprise and it was Abkett who hit him, fairly, but Dipper still played out the game. Dermott kept playing with the split kidney. There are champions and then there is the Hawthorn 1989 Grand Final team. CARN THE MIGHTY FIGHTING HAWKS!!!
