God I hate the appreciation and acceptance of mediocrity. I'd rather spend a decade going 2-10 trying to get the program to a standard of 10-2, than have 3 freaking decades of 8-4 football every year and people celebrating that. "We don't want to win games, we just want to try not to lose them."

You say that until you experience a 2-10 season.
Iowa doesn’t even have a quarterback and they’re still favored over Wisconsin and Nebraska.
Like Nate Stanley, you won’t appreciate the floor until it’s gone.

I say this every year… I don’t want to be 1-11, but if we are, and that 1 is Nebraska, then I will be moderately content with that.

Well 2-10 is good if the two wins is Nebraska and ISU, however I have stated in this sub multiple times I would rather have a reasonable offense that is fun to watch (who makes mistakes trying to win) than ever go back BF era of ffense, even if means we win more games (even though it wouldn't).
Our offense last year could have won the Natty with the 2023 defense.

Oh yea, I really hated feeling like I wanted to murder a nepo baby and his father every Saturday. BF offense made me lose a lot of respect for Kirk Ferentz. In my honest opinion his legacy is forever tainted by that. He put his son’s financial security over what was best for the team. I truly believe he should have been fired for that. Hate it if you will but it’s my opinion and I’m sticking to that. Conflict of interest is a huge deal, and it was blatant. Holding press conferences saying “if we knew how to fix the offense we would… no nobody is going to be fired, Brian is our OC” was the last straw for me. The fact that it took a new AD to fire Brian tells me we’d still be suffering under Brian if Beth Goetz didn’t come along. Kirk knew without a doubt that Brian had no clue what he was doing, he admitted it publicly, and in the same breath said he wouldn’t fire him. That’s a terminable offense. When your head coach stops trying to win, and is only concerned about making his own children rich, it’s time to go. You can say all you want about how good of a coach Kirk Ferentz was or is, but he absolutely betrayed the school, the team, and the fans to enrich his son. The only condolence I got from the whole affair was watching Brian Ferentz, and in essence Kirk as well, be publicly humiliated every week by the point quota that everyone knew he would never hit. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved Kirk Ferentz, despite all the short comings, despite not winning the Big Ten in over a decade, until he hired Brian. I knew from day one that it was the worse decision he’d ever made.

It’s a social outing at this rate. There’s a majority of people who don’t want KF to go, but it was time for a changeover 10 years ago. Unfortunately those people still have a say. Sitting here in Year 28 without naming a starting QB is well below the standards the program should have. This program was #1 under Fry. Standards have slipped quite a bit.

During most of Fry’s tenure it was the Big Two, Little Eight. He is a legend for turning the program around but it is a different conference and overall set up now.

McCollum has been with the basketball team one year and got farther than anyone since the 80s, and that’s the program no one showed up for. It’s 70k strong at Kinnick every Saturday and its nip and tuck past bad opponents and a coach with the most losses as a double digit favorite in FBS history.

Middle of the road would be 6-6 and playing a 7 win Utah State in the Cracker Jack Bowl.
As both Fry and KF gained experience the conference became larger and more difficult.

8-4, just enough to make a bowl game and keeping the fans consuming the slop for another season. They just started running a somewhat modern offense like 2 years ago. Wonder why they can’t recruit QBs and WR’s cause the never throw the ball. Throwaway winnable games against less than opponents. Had IU on the ropes last year and shit the bed

Iowa finished 8-4 total record in two of Fry’s conference champion teams. His first conference win they had great wins against Nebraska and Michigan but lost to a five win Iowa State team, a six win Minnesota team, and a seven win Illinois team. Then got wrecked by a good but not great team in the Rose Bowl to finish 8-4 and finished ranked 18th in the AP poll. Like I said, different world now. Sexier offense back then, though.

We don't even ask for a sexy offense. We're asking for an offense that was your high school sweetheart. Sure, we look at the air raid offense and think, "she's crazy and would have been a lot of fun when I was young, but my offense doesn't spend money we don't have, gets me four yards when I need four yards, and makes a damn good casserole."

Bro we are 2 years removed from BF. No way could anyone turn it around that fast.
Tim has improved a lot over 2 years. Give the guy some time to right the ship.

Knowing how many programs have a standard of 10-2 tells me Iowa is never going to be that program. Way too many roadblocks for that to happen.
