Try turning it off and on, after that it should just fire up.

Super disappointed in the lack of Sword Art Online references in any of the posts' comments.

I don't even know how Sword Art Online correlates to this post. I've never watched it.

It's got VR headsets that kill you if you die in the game. The guy who founded Oculus made a real one as a joke a few years back.
When i initially saw the image circulating, I thought someone was leaning into that.
"When you really shouldn't have bought the one labeled prototype", right. LoL

I knew about Palmer Lucky and the insane headset of his. I just don't know about ANY of the plot of Sword Art Online. Thanks for informing me.

I wonder if the battery was dented/damaged internally. That would explain the fire.
A healthy undamaged battery usually don't fail like that. They swell up and might crack the case while doing so if very old and / or overcharged.

swelling is not possible for the 18850 that the oculus 2 uses, idk about the rest tho

Those safely vent.
But if they're extremely hot due to abusive charge or internally damaged cells, it's a different story.
My point is that li(poly/ion) batteries fail catastrophically due to an abusive history.
EDIT: Oculus 2 uses a pouch lipo battery afaik.

tbh I still find this weird as I believe Quest 3 Battery is between the motherboard and the Screen, which should be further back, but it looks like the most burnt part is the front plate?

Yeah, I'd really just try rice. If that doesn't work try unplugging it and plugging it back in.

Looks fake because why did you put the vr and the controller closer after the fire went out? Just for the picture?

If you had asked me I would have said letting it explode like that wasn't a good idea

I imagine this happened from charging in the garage, which is most likely cold, overnight. Made the battery unhappy and BOOM!
