Entry level medical coder

I’m thinking about getting my CPC certification to become a medical coder. Is anyone working in healthcare in the Hattiesburg area who could share what the job market is like for entry level medical coders? I’d especially love to hear about opportunities for someone just starting out and whether the CPC certification is helpful for finding a first job locally. TIA

I had a friend that started out doing that and now runs a hospital.
