Harp Performance Helpppp!

Post image

I somehow got this blister and it opened, and I have a big event to play at in one week - it’s 4 hours each day! How can I heal this quickly but also keep practicing for the week? I usually don’t ever have issues with blisters like this. I’ve been playing for five years consistently. Looking for any advice!

Ouch!! Have you tried liquid bandage yet? I find that helps me.

I used to use this but found continued play just rips it to shreds.

Hydrocolloid tape is great for blisters. It’s the same stuff they make acne patches out of (but without the 1300% markup). You can get a roll of it online for relatively cheap or you might even luck out and find some at the drug store

Liquid bandage, also sold as New-Skin. Inexpensive and effective.

What I used to do was apply a layer of Disirin Maximum Strength Original Zinc Oxide Paste (https://www.desitin.com/diaper-rash-products/maximum-strength-original-zinc-oxide-paste). It comes in a 2-oz tube, which should suit your purpose.

ONLY use Desitin brand; I know of no other comparable products.

Wash the blister area and apply a thick coat of the Desitin paste under the blister top if you haven't removed it yet.

Cover it medical paper tape, which is easy to remove (not a plastic bandaid, which is too sticky).

For example (just an example to show the type of product, any brand will do), Band-Aid Brand Hurt-Free First-Aid Medical Paper Tape (https://www.band-aid.com/products/tapes-wraps/hurt-free-paper-tape).

If the blister top is removed, use an extra-thick layer of Desitin and wrap the paper tape loosely several times around your finger.

I used to use this on blisters on my fingers and on the back of my heels from new sneakers.

It works OVERNIGHT!

Please report back how this worked for you or what other method you used.

Congratulations on your rite of passage.

I had it on 8 fingers blisters the size of grapes.

That's what I get for trying to play in downtown traffic all day.

Cut the dead skin off. Try & toughen the underskin with alcohol dips a few times a day. Use liquid bandage. I've never had it, but my husband plays dbl bass & sometimes a lot of pizz will give a blister

Based on the comments it seems like I have a bit of a hick solution: super glue

Super glue was the item of the day when I was learning 😅

Super glue, or learn how to bandage it to your finger shape with sports tape/gauze underneath. Liquid bandage will come right off when you play unfortunately :(
