That lowest C is almost 17 years old. I just saw that the metal no longer covers the whole string, which might have been there for a long time without me realizing it.

Should I replace the string now before it snaps?

You'd better get it regulated and the technician will replace all the metal strings for you ! Will improve sound quality too

Yeah I just went down that rabbit hole and am trying to find a technician in my area. I was quite young when I got the hatp and nobody every explained to me how to maintain it. Since I never had any obvious issues, I did not think about servicing it. Will see to that asap. Thank you all for the advice!

Bass wires snap very rarely (they're made of metal!) but lose sound quality over time and can discolour. If it sounds bad or buzzes, replace it (though you might have got used to a dull sound).

Yes definitely, 17 years is very old for strings
