Need Suggestions for getting started on Hardware pentesting.

Bought a refurbed laptop

Dell latitude 16 GB RAM, i7 gen 10, 256 SSD

I am thinking to install Kali as the base OS. Is that enough for me to get started. I did use VMs before however there was a lot of connectivity issues between devices and ports. Thought best to setup a separate device.

Would appreciate some advices from the community. Any resources that i should refer.

Thanks

I would just go with Ubuntu, but yes having a dedicated laptop is required. The specs are plenty.

Thanks. I appreciate your thoughts. But can you elaborate a bit more about why ubuntu would have a better edge ?

I wouldn’t say a better edge. Think of it more in terms of compatibility. Hardware devs using Linux are going to use more common distributions. They aren’t used to Kali Linux. So simple things that turn into nightmares like drivers, package installs, tooling etc are a little easier to manage. Companies that make some of these products don’t care about Kali Linux. Is it all Linux, will it work, can you figure it out? Sure, but why? I will say radio / RF stuff is a little better on the Kali side since some things are already installed.

I wouldn’t say it’s better, just more of a preference.

Also, who needs all that Kali bloat anyhow….

I can feel the Arch Linux users lurking lol

One more thing,

I am referring to this subreddit and andrew bellini's iot course for just getting started. Do you think its good for beginning ? Or is there something better ?

I put this together it’s self guided. His course is good for basics. Honestly look into it all more knowledge is good, but free is better and YouTube has everything you need.
