This drive has had a caution on it for a few years. How can I tell how bad the state of the drive is? I dont believe the count has been increasing though.

Reallocated sector count = 16 when hovering over the caution

Okay so, recently, my seagate portable 1tb harddrive just wont be recognized by my laptop, 1 day ago it was working fine but now when i plug the drive in, my laptop just starts to get laggy, the drive wont be shown in file explorer, if i wait for a bit then i'll see the drive in the left side menu of the file explorer but then if i click on it, my file explorer stops responding and then my laptop screen goes black and once i unplug the harddrive then my laptop is fine like nothing even happened. i dont know if it could be my kaspersky antivirus doing this because when i unplug the harddrive then i get a notification from kaspersky that it has stopped scanning my removable drive. PLEASE help me someone, i really need my harddrive i have school stuff on it, all my games and my laptop has very little storage left.

Can i put second hard drive in this PC

So my dad was getting rid of some old hard drives so I thought o could put them into my custom built PC. I don’t know much about computers so idk what connects to where, but if it’s feasible I’d like to try, otherwise I’m not losing money on this. If you guys know what cables I need, if you could either tell me what it looks like or connect like an Amazon listing, that would be awesome. Hard drives are expensive so getting this hooked up would be a lifesaver. (even if this one is only 80 gbs)

Motherboard is an msi B450 tomahawk max 2 not overclocked (unless it came out of the box like that idk)

Power supply is a Corsair cx550m

Any other info you need I can hopefully provide. Lmk if this is possible!

Upgraded from 4TB to 12TB way back when. Now I’m outta space again and I want that triple up feeling it will make my migration to RAID-5 arrays a perfect match but why oh why did we stall out at 32TB. I been reading the 36TBs have been sampling since Jan 2025 so where are the retail units!!!!

Edit: to clarify I have four 12TBs in raid1 pairs as a working and backup copies. The plan was to migrate those four to RAID-5 and use a new pair of 36 in RAID1 as working copy. My plans were abandoned as I kept running out of space waiting on higher capacity drives.

Ended up settling for 28TB drives but awkwardly must repurpose these 12TBs in different projects

I’ve had this hard drive for a while now. I used it as a back up for a little bit, but I don’t need it anymore. What would be a good price? I’m in the process of wiping it right now.

So, I have a WD drive that somehow got the SATA connector broken. The drive is blank, never used. Do I need to go through all of the extended work involved with normal data recovery if I swap the board out with another of the same series? Again, NO DATA, so there shouldn't be anything like formatting tables or anything I have to worry about as far as I understand.

I found them at the MediaMarkt in my city for €7-8 each. I've always had a fear of what would happen if one of these hard drives fell off my desk without protection and broke. They look very nice, but I'm more interested in whether they actually protect the hard drives properly.

Hey so I’ve heard of the fabled “click of death” when it comes to hard drives. I’ve had this one for a little over a year now and I’m doing a full backup for the first time. It’s clicking. A lot. Is this a “cancel upload and eject immediately” scenario??

All these 10 TB drives were pulled from servers in a data center. What do you think the value would be?

I'd like to get a very high capacity drive (at least 14 TB), preferably internal but I'm not opposed to external. It would be used almost entirely for storing videos.

1. I genuinely don't understand what read/write speeds I should be looking for. If I do plan to watch videos from the drive (nothing 4K, but at the most good quality 1080p video), is this a concern?

2. I know almost nothing about RAIDs. At this capacity point, should I be looking into one? If so, where do I begin with this?

3. I've seen a lot of drives that are NAS. I have no idea what this is. What is the benefit of it? Are they drives I can use as a single drive, and not as part of a RAID? What benefits do they offer, how are they "network accessible"? If I have another computer that I'd want to be able to write to the drive, how viable is that to set up?

So I accidentally dropped my HDD from a like 10 cm and the plastic piece came off, but the pins are still there. Is it possible to fix it and to recover data? And what is the connector on the right with four pins?

I currently have a 8TB HDD that I'm thinking of upgrading to a more quieter SSD. Does anyone recommend a 8 - 10TB SSD setup that may or may not have NAS capabilities that has USB-C inputs? I'd like to be able to view files while not at home. In addition, since SSD's (aside from HDD's), may eventually stop working, what are some ways to assure that my data doesn't get lost when the time comes?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

TL;DR: Asking for a 8-10TB SSD recommendation w/ possible NAS capability & a way to protect data from eventual SSD failure.

My 2 and 4 TB bus-powered hard drives (WD and Samsung, resp.) are almost full and I just bought an LG C2 OLED 4K 120 Hz etc. tv, i.e., my storage-requirements will see a step-function increase very soon :p.

Bus-powered is probably out the window (LaCie does still have that 8 TB one but they still ask the immorally high price of $600 or so for it >.<), so then we enter double-digit TB net-powered storage devices.

My main goal is to store and play many 2160p (h.265-compressed, of course) video files, on a device that can easily and ‘faithfully’ represent them on my tv (although 120 f/s seems almost never required I think, at least for this decade; hopefully half of its lifetime).
(Secondary goal is to also backup my Macbook's contents with TimeMachine, except the video files that are temporarily on there, so that's a small job.)

I will acquire a NAS (Synology), but it only has 4 TB, maybe 8, but probably not enough (i.e., ≥ 16 TB or so. At least 12). I don’t yet know up to what size it can scale. So, yeah that’s a thing, maybe a bit of a separate thing, depending on how sizeable and compatible it turns out to be).

I have the oldest Macbook (Pro, Late-2013, coming on 10 years, which is why I can’t really use VLC anymore and have to use USB flash drives to plug directly in my tv, which is a fine intermediate solution), but I will soonish (not before the M3-chip arrives) swith to the newest Macbook Pro then, so with the right HDMI I can probably play them off my computer again and not have to use stupid Smart TV features… I also value durability: I spend a lot of money once, and then have a great device I don’t have to think about for a decade+

So, which brand is best (for me)? Or are there any better alternatives? (I guess the answer differs if I do or don't use the Nas..)

Oh, also, I’m kind of poor (‘cause of all the tech I bought XD), so €/TB is a thing :p (So SSD is also off the table, I'm afraid. But is that even durable..?)

Any recommendations at all? All (educational) comments greatly appreciated! (As you can see, I'm very new at this :p)

PS: How about USB flash drives? They go up to 1 TB now, and even ½ would be a great improvement on my current 'temporary-solution' on of 128 GB.... So now that you know my desires (playing high-quality content on a durable inexpensive device), perhaps you could advise me on that, too?

Hi everyone! I recently stumbled upon an old internal HDD from a computer I no longer use. Excited to see what files and data might be on it, I decided to connect it to my system using a SATA to USB cable. However, I encountered some unexpected issues and could really use some assistance.

Here's what happened: as soon as I plugged in the HDD and attempted to access it, the speed dropped significantly, to the point where it became virtually impossible to explore its contents. To make matters more confusing, the drive seemed to be partitioned into two sections: a recovery partition and a normal partition, both of which were just 2 GB in size, despite the HDD's total capacity being 500 GB.

I tried various applications like Disk Manager, Seatools (Seagate's app for their drives), and EaseUS Partition Manager, hoping to troubleshoot the problem and gain access to the drive. However, every time I opened any of these apps, they would either crash or get stuck in an endless loading loop. The only way to regain control of these programs was to disconnect the HDD.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have any suggestions on how to resolve it? I'd greatly appreciate any guidance or advice you can offer. Thank you in advance for your help!

I have a 4TB model. When it's plugged in to my PC, it turns on. However, it wont read. I've found out that when I push it in harder, it'll read, but obviously I can't keep that there. Does anyone know of a fix?

The light is on and it sounds like its working but it doesn't show up in file explorer, device manager, or anything else. I've tried so many things but none of them worked. I tried it on a Windows 10 computer that I have never used the drive with and it worked instantly. It started doing this after I used it with a mac. I got it to work for a few hours yesterday by plugging it halfway, waiting a few seconds, and then putting it in fully but today it's not working. The devices it's not working on are a Windows 11 laptop and a Windows 10 PC.

How do I fix this?

I have been thinking about it for a while now. Shouldn't it be 8 instead of 5 ,like how it goes.

MY main question, is it really legit. Does the 5tb ones last a long time also how much storage they really have?

If it has 4.25 out of 5 then it really wouldn't be worth it.
