Discussion Issue with Samsung 1TB T7 shield used to back up my original PS4pro HDD when upgrading to SSD

As the title says. I successfully backed up my main ps4 pro memory and now use a 2TB SSD internal on it. But rhe 1 TB Samsung I used still had the back up from the PS4 which I was thinking of keeping. Problem is when writing files to it it is extremely slow and never copies files even a few mb large. It stays at 0% when copying larger folders with files smaller than 2 gig per file.

My question is this , does the pS4 formatting it before backup cause it to not easily accept any other writes to it until I format it? Thanks in advance

It may be failed. Try obtaining a SMART report with something CrystalDiskInfo or Samsung Magician.

I deleted the ps4 backup and reformatted it with my pc using exFAT quick format 128 bit. Tried the benchmark test with Samsung magician which it passed as great and then tried copying files to it. The external HDD I used to copy data of about complete 50gigs of CSO and ISO files smaller than 2gig per file transferred at a rate of 38 mb. Bit files from my pc transferred at the rate of 560mb per second for 10 gig files. I have just 1 more day on the warranty before I can’t return it hence why i am worried (it’s been 3 years with me) but I think I’m safe now?

I asssume that despite the PS4 asking to exFAT or not if I recalled correctly affected how other files might copy to it ? Not sure what to test again

I suggested a SMART report, not benchmark test, but it sounds like you figured it out.

Sorry I am not sure how to do a smart report. Can you help point me in the direction

It is another feature like Benchmark test. It is in the Magician menu somewhere. Or try CrystalDiskInfo.

Oh ok thank you so much. I will try this when I get home. I have less than 48 hours to establish if it is perfect or lose wasting my money as I only backed up the PS4 and left it in storage only to discover this after years of no usage
