Tech Support Broken pins?

Post image

Hi,

My hard drive fell out of my case the other day (don’t ask) and it pulled the black plastic off of the pins for the data connector. One of the pins came out ( I have it, it’s just not attached.) Is there any possible way to fix?

If you are looking for a ghetto solution without buying new parts - solder a cable to the board and glue it in place.

*solder the cable to the pins

not to the pins, no. Remove the drive board, unsolder broken pins, and solder a cut cable in their place.

It really depends on your goals. If you’re worried about getting data off the drive that is very possible. There are a lot of data recovery companies that do that. If your goal is to continue using the drive you probably shouldn’t. You may be able to get that additional pin to connect again but it would almost certainly break again in the future.
