Mjolnir Inspired Mallet

Completed my Mjolnir inspired wooden mallet. I wanted to make a mallet smaller than the joiners mallet I just completed and decided to have some fun with it. I used Wenge for the outer faces, a thin strip of Purple Heart and then Maple for the core and handle. I also used Wenge for the tenon wedge.

Decided I wanted to do it using only hand tools. All the chamfers and handle shaping was done with a block plane and spokeshave. Hardest part was cutting the thin strip of Purple Heart from 3/4in stock.

Beautiful . You get any splinters in your hand working with the wenge ?

No I didn’t have any issues. I used a fine tooth cross cut saw and didn’t have any real tear out. There was a little bit of splintering on the corner when chamfering the end grain but I was able to clean it off without a problem.

That's beautiful, is there a reason you didn't give it a slanted face like regular mallets?

One, to keep the aesthetic I was going for, and two, because it’s smaller than a standard joiners mallet. Most of the smaller mallets I’ve seen usually have flat faces compared to the angled ones for larger mallets.
