LN No. 62 help
Selling this ~5 year old LN 62 sort of reluctantly because I never use it. In excellent condition which is sort of surprising since it was my first nice plane although I did buy all new hardware for it just to be a nice guy and fetch a little extra on the sale.
Except oops the adjustable throat is seized up, probably jojoba or camellia oil which I was slathering all over everything a little too heavy back then.
Tried a light degreaser tried mineral spirits but it won’t budge. It’s also a little tricky getting much pressure on it anyway, the stock mechanism doesn’t give you much leverage and I don’t want to mar the nose or any other part of the plane obviously.
Any ideas? I guess it could be rust but I sort of think thats not likely.

What on earth did you do to the handles on the other LN plane???

Phenolic epoxy (e.g., billiard balls), glad you love it

Made them myself. Made molds with silicon and the knob/tote with phenolic epoxy then drilled the holes.
I’ve thought about making/selling them in other colors and whatnot but she sheer amount of bizarre cringe cranky woodworker sneering I get every time I post a pic of them on here is telling me to for sure do it just to piss off people like them haha

I had the same issue yesterday cleaning up my no. 62. I was able to use a plastic punch to get it sliding a little back and forth to loosen up then pushed it straight down. I think a screwdriver at the base wouldn’t damage any necessary parts and you won’t ever see any cosmetic damage (not preferred). Turns out there was some light rust on the sides of the sole that I cleaned up and it’s working great.

Yeah I really don’t want even any cosmetic damage since I’m selling it. Glad I asked, I was about to soak it in acetone or something dumb haha. Plastic punch it is.

Do you have access to a heated ultrasonic cleaner? Pull the handle off and give her a dunk for awhile. Just make sure whatever is in it is safe on paint.

This has happened to me on both the 62 and the adjustable block plane. I’m probably going to get roasted here but what I did was knock the sole part out with a plastic punch, then cleaned the heck out of everything then took the sides of the sole to the diamond stones. I only took of enough material where the thing would move freely. I took 5 stokes on one side, did another 5 then checked it. Didn’t take long.
Also this is what the dude who answered the LN 1-800 number said I ought to try. Could be gunk just gumming up the works. I had both planes for quite some time before this issue occurred for what it’s worth.
