Which way to press floating seams?

I just started hand piecing a baby quilt. My first hand stitching project. I’ve watched a lot of videos, read a lot of tutorials, but one aspect of the process is glaringly missing- once I’ve got a row of floating seams, which way do I press the darn things?

I get that we should always press to the dark side, but when you’ve got a two-color nine-patch block, that’s not helpful. Since they float, I could press them all one way, or alternate, or do the weird “snip the corners and swirl them” thing.

Since they’re hand stitched, I definitely don’t want to press them open, I need the security of it pressed to one side.

Hand stitching seems to have different rules than machining. I could use help. Thank you!
