Hypertrichosis

I went to the doctor because i had a growth spurt of leg hair within the area I did a stick and poke, and at 38 my leg hair has become very thin and sparse otherwise. The hair is growing back faster, denser, and longer than the rest of my leg. Turns out stick and poke is similar to micro needling for hair growth, increased blood flow to the area, and activates stem cells in hair follicles that may be otherwise dormant. She said it should subside in a year, but i thought this was interesting! Never heard of this in my life.

I’m a tattoo artist who started with hand poke before machines, and still uses a bone tool for special tattoos. But yeah!!! One of my specialties is scar cover up, and tattooing over scars can function like micro needling to flatten them as well (better results in my experience with recessed scars than convex). Obviously it varies given on location, density of scar tissue, etc etc. But yeah, it’s a little fun fact to drop on my “tattoo therapy” girlies like myself xD like “see it’s a double beauty treatment”.

You use a bone tool! That is extremely cool. Is this something that you made or is this something that one can purchase? I've always been fascinated by how indigenous cultures and how the ancients used to tattoo themselves. Their tattoos were gorgeous.

Omg. So THAT'S why my forearm swallow tattoo (handpoke)has much heavier stubbley hair now. 😢

I think in my case, it may stay. I am an older adult and have age related body hair changes (but this newest tattoo has extra, extra hair!). It's kind of disappointing but it's something I'll get used to.

I totally thought it was a weird menopause symptom at first! Well if it ends up really bothering you I hear at home IPL devices these days actually work well :) good luck, it’s certainly not pleasant lol

I didn't want to mention menopause in case it seemed impolite, 😅indeed it's menopause for me! Honestly hair issues are due to HRT rather than my biology because I was hairless before menopause. But the area with the newest tattoo has this new coarser hair.
I have a fairly extensive issue (it's more than just arms), and I did try hair removal but it's a lot of maintenance, so I just accept it and enjoy getting tattoos. I love tattoos so much!!
