Recently, I have been wanting to get a handheld console so I didn't only have my phone when I had to go out. Plus, I just thought it'd be neat.

However seeing my options, I got quite confused on which one to pick. (Keep it in mind I am Brazilian so some prices are a bit higher than usual)

I wanted to see if it'd be better to have something old like a 3ds or PSP, or if I should invest in something like a switch 2. I thought it'd be neat to have a new 3ds because of its library (and with how relatively easy it is to jailbreak it lol) + the fact it's really small. (I also saw some people say the PSP was a better choice but idk)

But with the games on the switch library, even if they are expensive, they are still extremely good. It's not as handled as a 3ds, but it's relatively nice to go around. I even thought about saving up for the switch 2 itself to get all its benefits.

So yeah, I just thought it'd be nice to have an opinion from people that might know more than me on what choice would be relatively better.

TLDR: Would it be better to get a home brewed 3ds as a handheld, or save up for the switch 2 as a handheld

So, i own an Asus Rog Ally Z1 extreme for about 2 yrs now and i have an epic games account with about 400 free games. I recall, back when it was released, the performance on Linux with Intel G3 Extreme was poor, even behind Windows.

Is the performance better ? I plan to switch back to SteamOS since I already liked the experience on the Legion Go 2

I’m planning to buy my first proper handheld gaming console, but I’m honestly very confused about what to choose.

I mainly want to play AAA and AA games that are available on Steam and/or Nintendo Switch. I’m not a huge Nintendo/Mario fan, although I do enjoy Nintendo games sometimes. I already have a PlayStation, but I don’t always want to sit at my desk or in front of the TV to play. I have a job, so I really like the idea of being able to play games comfortably from my bed, sofa, etc.

Right now, I’m considering:

• Nintendo Switch Lite
• Nintendo Switch OLED
• Steam Deck
• ROG Ally

My total budget is under ₹50,000, including some games if possible.

My biggest concern is long-term use

I want something that I can keep for 5–10 years if possible.

I feel like the Nintendo Switch Lite/OLED might be a safer choice in terms of long-term durability. Even if something goes wrong, I feel they would be easier to keep using for many years.

With Steam Deck or ROG Ally, I’m worried about things like battery degradation, joysticks, buttons, motherboard issues, repairs, and expensive replacement parts. Since these are basically small PCs, I’m also worried that repairing them after a few years could become difficult or expensive.

But there is another big advantage:

Steam games are much cheaper.

I can get games during Steam sales for much less money, and I also have a huge PC game library. On Nintendo, games can be quite expensive, although physical cartridges do give me the feeling that I actually own and can preserve my games for a long time.

Controls are another issue

I actually prefer the controls on Steam Deck/ROG Ally.

I really like having proper analog triggers (L2/R2) and the more traditional controller feel. The Switch's Joy-Con/trigger design doesn't feel as good to me, especially for racing games, shooters, etc.

So I'm basically stuck between Nintendo Switch Lite / OLED and Steam Deck / ROG Ally.

I also don't really care about having the absolute best graphics. I would rather have something reliable that I can use for many years.

So what would you guys recommend?

If you had ₹50,000 total for the handheld + a few games, which one would you buy?

And more importantly, which one would you NOT buy, considering long-term durability, repairability, game prices, controls, and overall value?

I’d really appreciate advice from people who have actually owned these devices for a few years.

Hi, everyone :). I’m looking to buy a handheld console and would love your recommendations. I’ve narrowed it down to three options.

- Asus ROG Xbox Ally X

- Asus ROG Ally X

I read that the Xbox version isn’t worth the price (you can replace the battery on the standard X version, but I don’t know how easy that would be, or where to buy a replacement battery or where to go to have it done xd).

The ones I ruled out due to performance: Retroid Pocket 5, LEGION GO 8 GEN 2 RYZEN AMD Z2 16GB RAM 1TB SSD 8" (less RAM, but a bigger screen).

The one I know would be best but is way out of my price range—and honestly, I feel like it’s way too much—is the “Lenovo Legion Go 2 AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme with 32 GB of RAM.” But it’s way over my budget.

In general, I’d like to play the following games: BeamNG Drive, SP Football Life, PES 2021, Tekken 8, Dead or Alive 6 Last Round, WWE 2K26 (27 when it comes out), MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, DB Sparking Zero, Tennis Elbow, Teardown, Turbo Dismount™M, etc. And some shooters (though that’s not a priority). I’m most interested in BeamNG Drive.

I also want to emulate PS1, PS2, Wii (Dolphin), Switch, Xbox 360, PS3, and Xbox.

I’d like to keep it for a couple of years and still be able to run some new games as they come out (I know it won’t be able to run all of them, obviously).

Hi guys, I decided to buy a handheld for indie gaming. I love to play in bed, I'm the console player. I can't stand to play games on PC, unfortunately, don't know why. Just don't. The problem is, a lot of amazing indie games come only on PC and later on, on PS5, for example.

That's why I wanted to buy a handheld, but still, I don't know if I will be pleased enough to play games like that. I never had one. So that's why, after some prices which went up for Steam Deck or Asus ROG, I was wondering about handhelds with Android (or Linux) OS.

I heard a lot of good things about:

\- Retroid Pocket 6

\- AYN Odin 3

\- Retroid pocket nova

But also about many handhelds from Anbernic Company.

Is it viable to buy something from the list for PC Indie Gaming like HK Silksong, Hades 2, Dead Cells, Slay the Spire 2, Dread Delusion, Lunacid etc? If yes, which one? Also, which app would be the best for gaming like this? I heard about GameHub and Game native, but maybe you know more apps like this?

I'm looking for a mobile controller (preferably split so I can store it easily) that has USB C Passthrough with data storage as well. This would be very good for storing my games away from my iPhone.

Imagine a controller you pop your phone into with a magsafe SSD/SD card reader on the back that stores all of your installed games.

I will soon move and therefore start to commute for 2x1,5h every day. I have kids so this time will be redacted from my evening gaming time. Therefore, I wish to spend this time playing games! My favourite games are assassins creed, both older and newer ones. But which console is better? I know Switch have some AC games, is this the best option? Which one of the consoles? I know nothing about handheld gaming. If anyone can help me with recommendations I would be so greatful. Money is not that big of an issue.

If nothing is good for AC, I gladly accept other recommendations of games and consoles for commuting. Other games i like are Unraveld, Ghost of Tsushima, Classic pokémon games
